What Magic? Kandersteg International Scout Centre was the dream of Lord Baden Powell and welcomes around Scouts and Guides each year. The World Scout Centre invites you to come and enjoy a unique and International Scouting Experience. We challenge you to find your magic! What magic? The magic is in the mountains, the friendships created whilst discovering cultural differences and the opportunity to live life to the full. It is found in a campfire with 800 Scouts gathered around, in the hike to climb your first peak and in the introduction to world-wide Scouting. Most of all, the magic is deep inside each person special to them, not touched by others, created by experiences shared and enjoyed. For 82 years young people have come here to experience the alpine environment by skis or by foot, to try something new, to make friends, to broaden their horizons. Our programme is based around the three themes of International Friendship, High Adventure and Eco Adventure we support leaders in designing and running the best Scouting experience for their group. Our aim is to help young people to grow! Young people come here and leave enriched by this special atmosphere, by challenges met and friendships forged. These themes bring our guests together and encourage them to live, learn and ultimately try to make the world a better place. So, come on... Find your Magic! Miriam Herzberg, Director

7 WINTER Kandersteg is magnificent in the winter. During this time, we offer a programme with activities ranging from sledding to caving and, of course, all forms of fun in the snow! The Centre is situated in an ideal location not far from several of Europe s major ski resorts and the village has two excellent downhill ski areas and over 70 km of cross country skiing. If the weather is not so kind, you can take part in more sheltered activities which could be anything from bowling Swiss style to caving deep in the Swiss Alps. For the evenings, or for when you are looking for something a little more relaxing, you can choose from a variety of local activities. Maybe a trip to our Finnish sauna, or even cheering for the local ice hockey team at the ice rink. KANDERSTEG INTERNATIONAL SCOUT CENTRE

36 34 Activity cancellation charges During the year we have lots of groups wishing to do activities and, once an activity is booked, we have to turn other Scouts away from it. Occasionally, groups do not let us know of changes or cancellations leaving empty spaces and disappointed Scouts. To help all our guests get the most from their stay, we charge a fee of SFr. 5. per person for an activity or half the total price of a workshop for any cancellation which does not give us 48 hours notice. This applies to all Centre activities advertised in KanderActive including those which are free of charge. There is NO CHARGE if a person is sick or injured. If the activity is not run by the Centre (e.g. river rafting, paragliding or mountain biking) then you may have to pay the FULL PRICE if you cancel too late, this is normal Swiss practice. Please plan a realistic programme. Remember the altitude and fitness requirements; avoid over-tiredness and stress. The Programme Office is very happy to help you with this. Thank you for your help in providing as many opportunities as possible for our guests.
