3 Uttarakhand: Pindari glacier The Pindari Glacier is a glacier found in the upper reaches of the Kumaon Himalayas, to the southeast of Nanda Devi, Nanda Kot. The glacier flows to the south for a short distance of about 3 km (1.9 mi),0.25 km in breadth and gives rise to the Pindari River which meets the Alakananda at Karnaprayag in the Garhwal district. 4 Himachal Pradesh : The Bara Shigri Glacier Region The Bara Shigri is the largest glacier located in the state of Himachal Pradesh. The glacier is located in the Chandra Valley of Lahaul and feeds the Chenab River.The name comes from the Lahaul dialect, where Bara means big and Shigri means glacier. 6 Sikkim : Chauriakhang- West Sikkim The Chaurikhang area is the Base Camp for the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute Darjeeling. The Institute regularly conducts mountaineering courses here. It is enroute the famous Rathong La across which is Nepal. Many famous mountaineers have been to this region and it is the ideal place for climbing in the eastern Himalaya. 7 Format of Mountaineering Festival National and International teams would register online or tour operators would register on their behalf Participants will arrive on their own at the Base Camp. Tour operators may facilitate their travel to Base Camp at each festival site. Once at base camp participants could hire tents, equipment or hire the services of guides. Base camp will host several guests during the Festival including environment specialists to expose participants to variety off issues related to mountain regions. To encourage self sustained climbing each team would be responsible from base camp onwards to manage logistics related to their climb. Common facilities, such as toilet, kitchen, medical support, communication, waste disposal would be available for participants.
