5 1. xecutive Summary The interim report describes the marketing activities of the contracted team (contractor G&L with nergon, ACTA, Speed, nviros, CS, Pro Sustainability and Green Box) from 1 st January to end April Following to the proposal from December 2007 and the results of the kick-off meeting in Brussels, 16 January 2007, all activities were carried out in accordance with the schedule. The main objectives are: Increase the level of awareness Set key stakeholder contacts Find new applicants in targeted regions As part of the contract, all partners had to participate in a kick-off meeting, 15 th January 2008, U Commission, DG nvironment, Brussels, to present the implementation activities in the targeted countries (first approach, objectives, situation ). The meeting was coordinated by rnst Leitner. After discussing the main topics with the marketing team, the representatives of the U Commission confirmed the proposed activities. The team coordinated their activities with the Competent Bodies. The selected countries are Austria, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Germany, Greece, Slovenia, Italy, Romania and Spain. Two countries are new on the programme: Ireland and France. Until end of April in following countries workshops with applicants and conferences with key stakeholders have been carried out: Germany, Spain, Czech Republic, Romania, Slovenia, Italy and Ireland. In the other countries events to promote the U colabel will follow in the coming months (July to October 2008). As planned, the marketing team participated in several important fairs such as Ferienmesse Vienna, Campground and CMT Stuttgart, ITB Berlin and Reise Camping ssen. At these fairs we organised meetings with many relevant key stakeholders, at ITB we hosted an information stand in order to present the U colabel to visitors (mainly trade visitors). A main part of the project has been devoted to find new applicants. We are planning to find at least 25 companies willing to apply for the U colabel. As experienced during previous actions we know that it normally takes approx. at least 4 5 months to push companies through the application process. Until end of April, more than 20 companies have been consulted. The major part of them was visited on-site with an eco-check. Contacts to tour operators have been done at ITB Berlin as well as in Austria. Further activities in this sector are planned for the second half of To present the U colabel to guests in the past year catalogues called combo posters with all certified services were produced. These combine an attractive poster with the complete list of all uropean U colabelled 4

6 accommodations, and an individual one for the camp sites. Some of these posters are yet available and have been disseminated at major events. In February 2008 new destination folders were produced. This kind of print product is similar to the Combo Poster. The main difference is that for each country one folder is available and the content has been expanded towards more information regarding sustainability in the destination. The info and marketing website was totally renewed (content management system) and is continously updated. All the ongoing activites can be found in the start section News. As part of our implementation strategy we regularly set contact with chains. We still have fruitful contacts to hotels in Greece, Czech Republic, Italy and to international chains such as Rezidoor Group. Large hotels still faces problems to match some relevant criteria such as renewable energy or disposable products. In Spain especially high fees for hotels with high overnight figures are preventing hotels to apply for the U Flower. These problems should be also considered in the ongoing revision of criteria. 5

Develop a system for targeted acquisition including: Tourist accommodation services (in regard to environmental issues, natural preserves & national parks, etc.), camp site services Tourist federations NGOs Competent Bodies, municipalities Benefit: Informed and ecolabel aware target groups 3. Basic assistance during the application process. We offered support to pilot-companies to fulfil the U colabel criteria during national workshops: Identify the current baseline laborate in co-operation with organisations improvement opportunities Benefit: colabelled services 4. Develop best practice examples. Summarise information and promotion activities for: Best practice transfer to other areas Detailed description of implementation process Motivate other accommodation services to participate in the application process Benefit: Summary report to be used for promotion 2.4. Organizational framework Marketing team For a successful implementation of the U colabel we selected experts with in-depth knowledge of the tourism marketing, especially sustainable tourism and experience with the U colabel for our marketing team. This consists of: rnst Leitner, marketing and environmental expert (U colabel, Austrian colabel, MAS etc.) Rainer Stifter, Austrian and international environmental expert (U colabel, MAS etc.), U colabel auditor Dagmar Diwok, Italian environmental expert (U colabel) Katerina Amfilochiou, Greek environmental expert (U colabel, MAS, etc.) Bianca Hellriegel, German environmental expert for camp sites (U colabel, cocamping), U ecolabel auditor 9

12 3. Preliminary activities in detail 3.1. Kick-off meeting All partners participated in the U Commission kick-off meeting, 15 th January 2008 in Brussels to discuss the implementation activities in the home country (first approach, objectives, situation ). The meeting was coordinated by rnst Leitner. The common results were confirmed by representatives of the U Commission Development of destination information tools Destination folder Now with a relatively high number of U colabelled accommodations in urope, it makes sense to produce infobrochures for destinations ( Flower destinations ). These folders provide benefits for two main tasks: Give a precise list of ecolabelled hotels in a destination, which we can present at events, trade fairs etc. for potential tourists Provide a comprehensive fact sheet (hotel recommendations, regional descriptions) for meetings with tour operators who shall offer environmentally friendly travel packages for special destinations. Folders have been produced for following 8 destinations: Italy (16 p) Ireland & Northern Ireland (4 p) Slovenia (4 p) Austria (4 p) Czech Republic (2 p) France (2 p) Spain, Portugal (2 p) Greece (2 p) All the documents are downloadable at the website and have been produced as hard copies for trade fairs (ITB Berlin) and Conferences (Ireland, Slovenia) and for workshops. 11

13 Where to stay poster combos An attractive folder, briefly called where to stay poster combos will be produced for camp sites. This poster is in progress and available in May (1.000 items). The pictures are partly the same as on the roll-up (produced in 2007). The guides are continously in use at various fairs and events e.g. ITB Berlin and will be used at all other upcoming ones List of all productions To provide an overview, we ve added the complete list of all productions of List of all productions 2008 Destination Folders Italy 100 Czech Republic 100 Austria 100 Ireland 200 Greece 200 Slovenia 100 France 200 Spain 200 WTS-combo camp sites Trilingual (nglish, Italian, German) nveloppes nglish 250 Quantity 3.3. The website The info and marketing website provides easy access to reliable information regarding the application process. To keep the web-site attractive, it was our aim to update it regularly. Unfortunately we always faced the problem to loose much time for updating the HTMLwebsite. Therefore we decided to invest in a practical Content Management System. Brand new information is now quickly available without wasting time. The content of the new CMS is similar to the previous website. All the necessary files are still available. 12

We established contacts with Greece, Italy, Hungary, Austria, Germany, Spain, Slovenia, France, Slovak and Czech Republic. In the foreground of the meetings stood the objective to set up commitments with representatives from tourist federations in the ongoing target countries. Following this strategy we could organize many relevant persons from the region who are willing to support our activities. Following the highlights of the meetings (totally 40) are summarized: Slovak Republic: Mrs. Lukacova from Slovak Tourism will help to find participants for the planned meeting in Banska Bystrica. Italy Situation The general positive trend regarding the colabel in the tourism sector in Italy is continuing steadily also in There are by now 83 hotels and 9 camp sites certified, and many others about to complete the application process. The continuing activities of promotion and information regarding the U- colabel in connection with local development strategies (Agenda 21, 24

26 uropean Charter for Sustainable Tourism in Parks) are continuing to bring interesting results, proving that the colabel for Tourist Accommodation and Camp Site Service is a very useful instrument to support such strategies. Particularly where these actions are coordinated with the local nvironmental Agencies, the support for the interested structures is guaranteed and therefore a high probabilty for them to succeed with the application Objectives Co-operation with APAT with following activities: The main target is to follow-up the activities from 2007 and set up new activities in Sicily Co-ordinator: Mrs. Dagmar Diwok, ACTA Status In 2008 many companies have been supported in order to get the U colabel. The actual efforts are concentrating on two regions where until now the U co-label is represented not at all: Southern Tyrol/Alto Adige in the extreme north of Italy and with only one structure: Sicily, in the extreme south. In both regions, also with the support of the local nvironmental Agency, workshops have been organized and individual assistance to the structures will follow. a. Sicily In Sicily, the assistance inserts itself also into the framework of an effort of the region to develop an ecotouristic product, of which the certification with the U co-label of structures is an important part. Supported tourist accommodations, Sicily 2008 The following hotels in Sicily are benefiting from the assistance and have already started the application process: Name Description 1. 29 5.3. Greece Situation The Greek Competent Body is ASAOS, which is operated by the Ministry of nvironment, Planning and Public Works. The Counsel is composed of 11 persons from several different organisations: the Ministry of nvironment, Land planning and Public Works; the Ministry of Development (Trade Sector and nergy & Technology Sector), the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food, the General Chemical State Laboratory, the Consuming Organisation, nvironmental Organisations, the Federation of Greek Industries and the Greek General Confederation of Workers. Mr George Stamatiou and Mrs Paraskevi Xenou are the contact persons of the Greek Competent Body. Nevertheless, a few months ago, the tenure of ASAOS members ended and because of the elections for the new counsel have not yet taken place, officially all operations of ASAOS are currently frozen. According to Statistics given by the Greek Competent Body (January 2008) the situation in Greece concerning the colabel for services is as follows: (2003) SUNWING RSORT KALLITHA RHODS (2006) SUNGARDN RHODS HOTL RHODS (2007) SUNWING RSORT MAKRIGIALOS CRT (2007) AGL PALAC HOTL CHALKIDIKI Furthermore, at least two more hotels have applied (Pella Beach Hotel in Chalkidiki and Daphne s Club Hotel Appartments in Xylocastro) and their applications will soon be under evaluation Objectives Co-operation with the Greek Competent Body including the following activities: The main target is to find three businesses (e.g. tourist accommodation services or camp site services) for the U colabel The target area for tourist accommodation services is the island of Crete. Organise one workshop with potential applicants (tourist accommodation services) focusing on hotel-chains or regions. Co-ordinator for Greece: - Mrs. Katerina Amfilochiou, Project Manager, nvironmental Dep., Speed - Mrs. katerina Amfilochiou, Project Manager, nvionm. Dep., Speed - Mrs. Yanna Nikou, Head of nvironmental Department, Speed Status As it was mentioned in the strategy approach proposed for 2008, and after the discussions that took place with Mr. Stamatiou from ASAOS, it was agreed that this year acquisition activities should take place in Crete, as a follow up of the work done there in Nevertheless, this year, it was decided to hold a workshop in the capital of Crete, Heraklion, where many 5 and 4 star hotels are located. Additionally, Heraklion is more centrally located on the island, making it thus more approachable to potential participants. This strategy was 28

30 confirmed in the kick off meeting in Brussels held in mid January and it was then on communicated to Mr. Stamatiou who agreed to it. In mid January 2008, Mrs katerina Amfilochiou participated in the kick off meeting. During the meeting, the acquisition strategy for 2008 was presented and finalised. Upon the return to Greece, Mr. Stamatiou was informed of the decisions taken during the kick off meeting and he agreed to the strategy for As part of the follow up activities for hotels that had expressed interest for ecolabel in the past year, phone calls were made to 4 hoteliers from Crete and one from Xylocastro who had also attended the workshop in Chania. The outcome of these contacts was that only Daphne s club hotel apartments, from Xylocastro, Peloponnese, had gone through with the application. Nevertheless, ASAOS is currently experiencing some administrative problems (as explained above) and therefore applications are not currently being evaluated. Speed, in an attempt to provide support to Mrs Daphne Mavromati (owner of Daphne s club hotel apartments) is currently in discussions with Mr. Stamatiou and Mrs Tryfona (manager of ASAOS) to try and find a solution in order for the application to proceed to the stage of evaluation. Since the workshop for 2008 is scheduled to take place towards the end of September (when tourist season is coming to an end) not many preparations have taken place yet. To this moment some translations are being prepared (a list of ecolabelled hotels and some texts) and the hotel list from last year is being revised Next steps As mentioned previously a workshop is scheduled to take place in Crete, Heraklion, towards the end of September Therefore, preparations for the workshop, that will take place in due time include: Fixing a date and booking a conference room for the workshop Making and sending invitations to all stakeholders potentially interested to attend the workshop Preparation of workshop agenda Preparation of material to be handed out during the workshop (flyer, information leaflet, etc). Personal contacts with stakeholders At the same time, some press work will take place in the local press in an attempt to raise interest of the local community on the matter of ecolabel and make the flower more recognisable. Finally, after the workshop, support will be provided to stakeholders who will express interest to proceed with the U colabel, or who will need supplementary information. 29

Germany Situation The promotional and acquisition activities in Germany are mainly focusing on camp sites, as the situation for tourist accommodation services was very difficult due to the political situation (competition of the national award scheme Viabono, which is supported strongly by the German Government). The main activities are carried out by cocamping with the aim to find further camp sites applying for the U colabel. Beside this camp site activities Dagmar Diwok is still participating at the LA 21 process in Garmisch Partenkirchen Objectives Co-operation with the German Competent Body (Mr. Löwe, UBA Berlin) with following activities: Find three camp sites to apply for the U colabel Organise one workshop with award ceremony at Campground, Friedrichshafen in January 2008 Presentation of the U colabel at Reisemesse ssen (March 2008) Presentation of the U colabel at Caravan Salon Düsseldorf (August September 2008) Presentation of the U colabel at relevant COCAMPING workshops Co-ordinator: Mr. Marco Walter, COCAMPING Implementation: Mrs. Bianca Hellriegel, COCAMPING 34

In the week after the event, several meetings are planned with stakeholders, tourist marketing responsibles and the public administration, in order to plan the colabel activities for the Ski World Championship Next steps Follow up contacts in co-operation with the Competent Body 5.7. Austria Situation In Austria there is a national colabel with strong criteria and good marketing performance. For both labels Austrian, U the Austrian Federal Ministry for environment is the Competent Body. The U colabel is anchored in all national marketing activities of the Austrian colabel. In our activities 2008 we are still focusing on camp site activities, which we already had contacted end of Two camp sites of this group have been awarded January Due 35

37 to this success and with the help of the manager of this camp site we could convince the whole group to apply for the U colabel. In 2008 a next step in close cooperation with the CB, the Federal Ministry of nvironment, is done by direct mailings, which will be sent to all camp site owners informing about the U colabel. We expect sufficient demand for one or two workshops which will be hold in June or in autumn. The province of Styria expressed their interest to support the ongoing activities during a meeting in March b. Acquisition activities in Carinthia In 2007, some hotels in Carinthia achieved the U colabel. Due to our contacts we could motivate further tourist accommodation services for the U colabel. During one day two hotels could be consulted on-site. co-checks revealed minor problems to match the criteria. We hope that both will apply by the end of this year. 36

Up to the present moment there are four tourist accommodation services certified. In our present activities we are still focusing on the region of Valencia. The local Competent Body gives support to the U colabel activities. The CB proposed to organise an U colabel workshop during the International Fair of tourism in Valencia. The tourist activity constitutes one of the most relevant sectors for the Valencia economy. This is reflected in the evolution of the tourist Valencia GDP. In the Valencia Community, it has passed of representing 12, 9 % in 2003 to 13, and 8 % in The Valencia Community is the first one of Spain in receipt of interior tourism and the third one as for the foreign tourism. In 2005 more than 23 millions of overnight stays were registered in its territory, 9,5 % of the whole in Spain. In the last years the rural tourism on the zones of interior is experienced a very notable development. 42 International Fair of Tourism, 05. April 2008 Result of the workshop 39 persons participated in this workshop. The participants were stakeholders, consultants, representatives of tourist accommodation services and camp sites, tourist association and hotel association. The information about the U colabel was spread for the first time in International Fair of tourism and the participants could get detailed information. Most of the main interest from the questions of the participants concerned the practical implementation of the individual criteria, advantages and costs for going for the flower. After a discussion at the end of the workshop a hotel, a hotel association and a regional organisation for tourism showed interest to get more detailed informations and expert advice for the process to apply the uropean colabel Next steps We had a first step, introduction, through a presentation event at September 2006 together with the Competent Body. They heard for the very first time about colabel on Tourism sector and the administration was presented, like the process to apply. There were some interested enterprises. On the second step, promotion, we visited eight hotels and camp sites to check their compliance label to colabel and to stimulate the application too. We were closed contact with this hotels and campsites. The visited hotels and camp sites keep co-label in mind still, but there is not a final decision to apply yet, because of the cost of the fee and the priority to apply other standards for quality and environment like MAS. That was happened in April In April 2008 we have the beginning of the third step, consolidation, with the promotion on the very big event for international tourism in Valencia at the Fair of Valencia, like a platform to present the colabel. We reach also in this platform other regions from Spain and the mean representatives of this sector with the goal to find the first movers and to establishing from networking between the administration, hotels/camp sites associations, tours operators and hotels and camp sites. We plant more activities to consolidation for this year like a presentation in a rural tourist platform inside the country and a presentation in the next south cost region after Valencia Murcia about colabel. 41

43 Suggestions to improve the participation to uropean colabel for tourism The harmonisation and minimisation of the fees would give better chances for tourism hotels and campsites to apply the U Flower. Particularly hotels and campsites that have MAS in Spain and want to apply for the U Flower should it get for free (or reduced). They do not want to pay more than for MAS. This group is concerns small and medium enterprises. Also for big companies the U Flower fees are too expensive relative to the marketing advantages. Another problem constitutes the major efforts for the application process for SM s. The main problem is the absence of personal resources to control the fulfilling of the criteria on site, due to the effort of time used to control the regular application documents. An idea to improve this situation is the electronically application process, that spends less time to control the application, more efficiency about the date base information and actualisations. This process change can give the administration the chance to have time to control the company on site for the verification of the criteria Czech Republic Situation Marketing promotion activities are supported by using various dissemination channels. In cooperation with the Czech Competent Body (CB) we distribute the brochures, organize seminars and participate at fairs. Ms. Adela Petrova form CB is member of a new task force specialised in U colabel promotion within the Czech Hotel Association. Because of this fact it is possible to disseminate the useful information about the U colabel directly to the managers of hotels. Also the promotion activities focused on best practice of the first ecolabeled hotel in Czech Republic presented by the director of Hotel Adalbert are very useful and help to support the U colabel Objectives Co-operation with the Czech Competent Body with following activities: New acquisition activities for tourist accommodation services and camp sites in the Moravian-Silesian Region -organize one workshop for tourist accommodation services and camp sites in Ostrava in terms of Tourism Fair and regiontour Ostrava in 4.-6.April 2008 Participation in Czech Tourism Fair called Holiday World in Prague Februar 2008 in cooperation with Czech Competent Body. In 2005, Fáilte Irland (Irlands Tourism Board) set up an nvironment Unit, whose purpose is to advocate a high quality physical environment for tourism and to promote good environmental practice throughout the tourism sector. A direct outcome of this strategy is the nvironmental Action Plan This Action Plan also takes account of national policy of sustainable development. The Government, under the patronance of the Minister of Sustainability, nvironment and Cultural Heritage, started a public campaign, which is unique in urope. This campaign is called Change ( and is focussing the big challenge to significantly reduce Ireland s greenhouse gas emissions over the coming decades. Partners of this campaign are the Government departmens, Business, Industry and Commerce, NGO s and many stakeholders. Tourism sector is strongly involved and will make efforts to this challenge. Within this campaign the U colabel is also supported Objectives Co-operation with the Competent Body with following activities: Find three applicants for the U colabel Starting active communication with main key stakeholders Try to harmonize with the national ecolabel Green Failte Award Co-ordinator: Mrs. Mary Mulvey in close co-operation with Mr. rnst Leitner Status The initial contacts were set with main stakeholders in November As a direct outcome of these we we were invited to participate in a National nvironmental Conference and could start a serie of eco-checks to potential applicants for the U colabel. 46

48 National nvironmental Conference, 23 rd April 2008 Based on initial contacts of past communication activities the colabel marketing team has been invited to participate in a big conference in Clarion Hotel Liffey Valley, Dublin. The Conference was opened by the Minister of State, Department of nvironment, Heritage & Local Government. Rainer Stifter presented the U colabel scheme and its relevant criteria. One of the speaker was Maurice Bergin, representative of Green Failte Ireland, who presented the strategy of the national ecolabel for the coming years. The most interesting fact related to the statement, that a harmonization with the U Flower will be realized. The highest level of Green Failte Ireland (it comprises four levels from Bronze up to Platinum), the Platinum level, will automatically correspond to the U Flower criteria. National wide U colabel workshop in Crown Plaza Hotel, Dublin, 22 nd April 2008 The co-operation with Green Box (Mrs. Mary Mulvey) and the Competent Body (Mrs. Mary Maddigan) is actually very successful. The U Flower marketing team could present the scheme, the criteria and ongoing marketing activities to most relevant key stakeholders in Ireland s tourism, e.g. representatives of hotel associations. The workshop was supported by Failte Ireland, the National Tourism Development Authority. Beyond relevant tourism stakeholders a lot of interested hotels could follow the presentations. Besides the U colabel agenda two representatives of the national-wide Change campaign were invited and introduced the ongoing activities in sustainable tourism. At the U colabel workshop in Crown Plaza, speakers from the U colabel team and Green Box with representatives from Clarian Hotel, Bush Hotel and Mill Park. 47

49 On-site consulting with three applicants In three days following tourist accommodations were preinspected by a on-site visit across Ireland. Assisted tourist accommodation services Name Address -mail / Website Description Clarion Hotel Sligo Clarion Road, Sligo m Halfday eco-ceck on-site The Bush Hotel The Mill Park Donegal Carrick-on-Shannon Halfday eco-ceck on-site Donegal Halfday eco-ceck on-site Co-operations Co-operation with both the Competent Body as well as with the Failte Tourism is good. Both organisations are supporting the ongoing activities Next steps Follow-up the contact with Green Failte Awards Support the three applicants France Situation Based on a commitment with the French Competent Body we decided to start again activities in France. It is planned to organise a conference for key stakeholders (tourist federations, hotels etc.) and relevant hotel owners. Actually in France there are 12 tourist accommodations with the U colabel. There is also existing a national ecolabel called La Clef Verte (Green Key) which strongly competes with the U colabel as it is popular in France. The 2007 award list of La Clef Verte comprises 234 accommodations (199 campings, 21 hotels, 14 B&B and guest houses). A cooperation with this label could be helpful for the Flower (in other countries there are existing many fruitful cooperations between the U colabel and national labels). Some activities towards cooperation have been carried out in Unfortunately, a commitment could not be achieved up to now Objectives Co-operation with the French Competent Body with following activities: Starting a pilot-project in co-operation with the Competent Body focusing on French Riviera Organise one workshop and find three applicants Co-ordinator: Mr. Philippe Rouen, in close co-operation with Mr. rnst Leitner, G&L 48

50 Status Philippe Rouen, Afnor-Afnaq, asked several French Departements to cooperate with the U colabel. From the Destination French Riviera he received a positive signal by the local hotel associations. The U colabel Conference and on site visits for interested companies is scheduled in June or beginning of October. The organization of the conference as well as the on-site visits will be supported by a local consultant Next step Organise a workshop in French Riviera On-site ecochecks 49

51 6. U wide activities 6.1. Tour Operators Contacts to tour operators are existing for some years. In 2008 we started to promote destination activities. One of the strategy is to set up environmentally friendly travel packages with overnight stays in U colabel accommodations. To be successful in future it is necessary that in targeted destinations more than a few ecolabelled hotels are available. We will follow-up the activities in the second half of year Chains (hotels, campsites) Co-operation with Corinthia Hotels International Initial contacts were established with the luxury hotel chain Corinthia. The idea of the executive co-ordinator of the group, Mr. Alfred Quintano, was to implement the U colabel criteria in some of the hotels and to identify if the flower could be a label to follow. In a first step two of the Corinthia hotels in Malta obtained the co Certification level given by the MTA or Malta Tourism Authority. This they did together with some eight other major hotels in Malta. The local co Certification process of MTA is very similar to the U colabel. The MTA director on this scheme (Mr. Mario Attard) informed us that they are working on a mechanism to give joint certification, that is, local Tourism Authority and U colabel. Also, the consultants of MTA are the same as those of the Malta Standards Authority who are responsible for the colabel. The name is ADI Associates (Mr. Adrian Mallia). On the basis of these developments Corinthia will decide in the future to go for the flower as well. In 2008 we had again contact to the group. Unfortunately, Mr. Quintano left the Group and we will try to set up a new contact with the new executive manager Co-operation with Rezidoor Group During the National nvironmental Conference in Dublin, 23 rd April, we could again meet Sarah Rooney, Responsible Business Manager, from Rezidoor Group. She told us that the most hotels faces problems to fulfill some relevant criteria: 22 % electricity from renewable sources Disposable products, e.g. one-portion such as shampoos.. Actually it is still the interest to promote the U colabel at their hotels, but it is up to the hotel to apply for the U colabel or the national label. 50

52 Czech activities During the third Czech seminar, which took place on 15 May 2007 in Žerotín Palace in Valašské Mezi í, interest in the U colabel has arisen from a representative of Slovak accommodation services (from the international hotel Mamaison). For him the reason of interest was that the Czech Residence Belgicka applied for the U colabel in January 2007 and as they are in the same group, they are looking at the U colabel benefits, so the whole group could have the U colabel in the future. For more info about the group see chapter Czech Republic and the Web-site: At ITB Berlin March 2008 we could achieve a fruitful contact to the marketing director of Mamaison Group who promised to further support the U colabel. We will further promote activities at Mamaison Group in Other activities During our activities in Berlin, ITB 2007 we got a promising contact to Deltanet-Travel in Greece, which showed interest in the information workshop in Crete (October 2007). The manager agreed to inform the partner hotels in order to participate in this event. In 2008 we had again contact to the group and got the promise for further support regarding the ongoing activities in Heraklion, Crete, September Cross Marketing activities In the first four months 2008 no relevant activities were carried out Networking As part of the communication target it is important to set up a wide network of key partners who have to be contacted regularly about the U colabel. Main partners are: Competent Bodies in all Member States Consultants Tourist federations and associations Country activities outside U Member States, e.g. Switzerland, Poland Personal contacts are set by all partners during meetings and fairs: Switzerland; contact to camp site owners at Campground and to hoteliers at ITB Berlin Poland: meeting with Polish CB in Warsaw to discuss ongoing activities towards tourist accommodation services Hungary: meeting with Vilma ri, Center for nvironmental Studies We promised to offer suppport to CB s and relevant stakeholders so far it is possible with our means. 51
