2 Page 2 1 May 2017 Mt Everest Base Camp Trek to support Diabetes Australia Matthew Jones had type 1 diabetes and sadly passed away on Mt Everest in March The Melbourne father of two had worked for Intel Australia and was excited by the research and related work of Diabetes Australia that helps to develop new technologies and new treatments for people living with diabetes, as well as searching for the cure for diabetes. We have now partnered with Adventure Abroad for a world first VIP charity trek to Everest Base Camp in memory of Matthew and to celebrate his life. We encourage business owners and leaders, CEO s and senior executives from across Australia to support the VIP Everest Base Camp Trek and raise important funds for diabetes education and research. The continued investigation of diabetes, and support for research, brings us closer and closer to a breakthrough and a cure. Diabetes is the fastest growing chronic condition in Australia. Over 1.2 million Australians have been diagnosed with diabetes, and a further 280 Australians develop diabetes every day that s one every five minutes. Globally, 415 million adults have diabetes. By 2040, this is expected to rise to 642 million. Diabetes Australia is the national body for all people affected by all types of diabetes. We provide information and support to people and families living with diabetes, and those at risk, as well as directly supporting diabetes research through the Diabetes Australia Research Program and strategic partnerships. Matthew didn t do things by halves, which is why Adventure Abroad aims to make this trek as comfortable as possible by allowing you the best opportunity to trek through some of the best scenery in the world and take you to places other companies don t get the opportunity to go. Through this trip, we will celebrate Matthew s life and raise funds for the 118,000 people and families living with type 1 diabetes in Australia. 5 Page 5 Terms and Conditions Adventure Abroad require a $1000AUD non refundable deposit upon registration. Adventure Abroad require the remaining amount plus additional optional extras eight weeks [56 days] from departure. If you cancel between 56 days and 28 days before the departure date you will lose 50% of the expedition cost. If you cancel up to 28 days prior to the departure date you will lost 100% of the expedition cost. If after cancellation we fill your place on the expedition and the expedition is fully booked we will at our discretion refund your money less the amount to cover administration costs. 8 Page 8 Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu Elevation 1,400m Today, you arrive in Kathmandu. After a warm Nepalese greeting we will transfer to our five star hotel. Feel free to enjoy a swim in the hotel pool or stretch the legs in the Kathmandu markets. Relaxing afternoon. Day 2: Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing After breakfast we will see some of the world s most treasured cultural and historic monuments including Hindu Temple, Pashupati Nath and the Buddhist sacred stupas of Shwoyambhu Nath, which is also referred to as the Monkey Temple. We will visit Kathmandu Durbar Square where you can see the Royal Palace. In the afternoon, we will be introduced to our local mountain team. You will also have the chance for some last minute shopping. Day 3: Fly to Lukla and trek to Phakding Elevation 2,652m Trekking Time: 4hrs An early morning flight will have us landing in the Sherpa hub of Lukla by approximately 9.30am. This is a very scenic 45-minte flight, which takes in some of the world s most versatile terrain. Breakfast will be waiting for us in Lukla before we proceed towards Phakding, which is our overnight destination. Phakding is located on the bank of the beautiful Dudh Koshi River.

9 Page 9 Day 4: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar Elevation 3,440m 6hrs After a hearty breakfast in our luxury lodge, we will cross over some of the famous suspension bridges, which connect our path from mountain-to-mountain over gorges and rivers. Today, we will have our first glimpse of Mt Everest before walking into the Sherpa homeland, Namche. Day 5: Acclimatisation Day We spend an extra night at Namche Bazaar to help our bodies acclimatise to the high altitude climates. There are many things to see and do in Namche, including great coffee, cakes and cinemas.

10 Page 10 Day 6: Trek Namche Bazaar to Debuche Elevation 3,800m 6hrs Today you will have the opportunity to take in some of the breathtaking views the Himalayas has on offer. Walking through valleys, across mountain ridges and around arguably the most beautiful mountain range, Ama Dablam while looking up the valley at some of the world s highest peaks, Lhotse and Everest. Today has the potential to go down on the highlights reel, as we experience the Tengboche monastery (the highest Himalayan Buddhist monastery). After a rest in Tengboche, we will descend further to Debuche. Day 7: Trek Debuche to Dingboche Elevation 4,358m 6hrs Trekking to Dingboche is only five to six hours and along a beautiful trail, known as the Himalayan Flat. We walk past beautiful mountain villages including Pangboche, where we will have a short stop. With our final crossing of the Imja valley we start the ascent to Dingboche situated in the prisitine valley floor. Day 8: Acclimatisation Day Like Namche, this is part of the acclimatisation process. Depending on how each person is feeling we will walk to a viewing point where we can see Makalu, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Cholatse and Taboche.

11 Page 11 Day 9: Trek Dingboche to Lobuche Elevation 4,940m 4hrs After another hearty breakfast we make our way to Lobuche along the Khumbu glacier. You are encouraged to take your time and soak in the Himalayas at its best. Today we walk directly toward Everest herself. It s a very memorable day Day 10: Trek Lobuche to Everest Base Camp via Gorakshep Elevation 5,320m 7hrs We undulate across the glacial moraine to reach Gorakshep, where we will have lunch. Gorakshep, is also where we will be staying tonight. From Gorakshep, it takes 90-minutes to Everest Base Camp, which is located in a slightly different place to where Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay camped. After spending time in the shadows of Pumori, Khumbutse and Nuptse, we will start our trek back to Gorakshep for some well deserved rest..

12 Page 12 Day 11: Trek Gorakshep to Kalapatthar. Helicopter from EBC to Pokhara Elevation 5,550m 4hrs An early morning hike awaits us to the stunning viewpoint from Kalapatthar for excellent panoramic views of the Himalayan peaks. After enjoying a cup of tea, we will head back down to Gorakshep, where breakfast will await our arrival. Following breakfast we will board our private helicopter, which will take us to Mt Everest View Hotel (located above Namche Bazaar) for a quick morning tea stop. Your helicopter ride allows you to not only have a different perspective of the world s highest peaks but also appreciate our achievements from above. We will helicopter to the Annapurna range town of Pokhara for some well deserved rest and recovery at our private day spa and villas. Day 12: Pokhara Elevation 827m Pokhara is all about relaxing, celebrating and enjoying some of natures best scenery. Pokhara, a lakeside town looks directly at the Annapurna ranges, which is home to some of the worlds other highest peaks in the Himalayas. For those who are up for it, we will enjoy a private city-tour, which includes visiting the Phewa Lake surrounded by monkey filled forests in the peaks of the Annapurna Range. On the lake you will see the Barahi temple. We will also visit Davis Falls, known locally as Patale Chhango, which means underwater waterfall. The water flows underground to Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave for approximately 500m. You will also have the chance for some well deserved pampering in many of the famous day-spa s Pokhara has on offer, which include specialised posttrekking massages. You can enjoy a celebratory beverage overlooking the lake with the Himalayas in the background. On a good day, the Himalayas reflect from the lake.

13 Page 13 Day 13: Pokhara to Kathmandu Elevation 1,400m After enjoying a nice sleep in, lazy breakfast and any last minute shopping in Pokhara, we will fly back to Kathmandu by our private air transportation. After checking in to our luxury hotel you have the afternoon to yourself before a well earned celebration with our team. Day 14: Kathmandu to next Destination After breakfast we make our way to Tribhuvan International Airport to your next destination.
