2 Tour Descriptions for Victoria, British Columbia ENCHANTING BUTCHART GARDENS Victoria, British Columbia Tour Code: VIC_29 This tour offers the very best of Victoria, combining the city s unique highlights with a visit to the world famous Butchart Gardens. Take in Chinatown and the Gates of Harmonious Interest, along with the Old Town and scenic Marine Drive. At Butchart Gardens, see how the Butchart family transformed a barren rock quarry into what is now one of the world s best known horticultural attractions, covering more than 55 acres. The gardens are a lush paradise of flowers, rare trees and winding paths, created more than 100 years ago. Enjoy the cascading fountains and footbridges connecting the many themed gardens, including the beautiful Sunken Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Rose Garden. A map will assist you with your self guided tour. Note: Walking time and distance is at guest s discretion, approximately 1 to 1.5 miles and up to 150 steps. 3 OCEAN WILDLIFE & ORCA EXPLORATION Victoria, British Columbia Tour Code: VIC_09 Victoria is the gateway to Puget Sound, the Gulf Islands and San Juan Islands and is home to three resident pods of Orca Whales. The J, K, and L pods with approximately 90 whales in total, live in these waters, as well as a variety of other marine life. You ll have an opportunity to view Porpoise, Pacific Dolphins, Sea Otters, Stellar and California Sea Lions and more. This tour is designed to take you as up close and personal to the whales and marine life as possible, as they explore their natural feeding grounds along the shores of British Columbia s rugged coastline. Your journey begins at the Ogden Point Cruise Terminal, where you ll be escorted to the whale watching vessel departure point. The large, deluxe catamaran is well equipped with restrooms, and offers comfortable covered, as well as open viewing decks. As you travel to the viewing location, be sure to enjoy the majesty of the coastlines and mountains surrounding you. Note: All efforts will be made to view the whales, but sightings cannot be guaranteed. $156* $104* 3½ hours CRAIGDARROCH CASTLE & VICTORIA HIGHLIGHTS Victoria, British Columbia Tour Code: VIC_05 Departing Ogden Point, your driver/guide will point out Mile Zero, the western end of the Trans Canada Highway and Beacon Hill Park en route to Craigdarroch Castle an outstanding landmark in a city steeped in heritage. The castle was built between 1887 and 1890 by Robert Dunsmuir and boasts a unique collection of residential stained and leaded glass, period furnishing, excellent wood paneling and carving. Enjoy your selfguided visit in this stately mansion with docents available to answer any questions you may have. After your visit, rejoin your driver/guide passing Thunderbird Park and returning via Chinatown, welcomed by the Gates of Harmonious Interest. Continue to the inner harbor framed by some of Canada's most recognizable landmarks, the majestic Parliament Buildings aglow in 3,333 light bulbs and the ivy covered Empress Hotel. At the inner harbor and shopping district, you'll be given some free time to take in the local sights and sounds prior to your return journey to the pier and your ship. Note: Must have good mobility and be able to negotiate a gradual uphill walk to the castle and 87 steps to view all four floors of the castle. Referred to as a 'castle', the building is more a stately mansion with castellated features. 4 VICTORIA HIGHLIGHTS Victoria, British Columbia Tour Code: VIC_02 Victoria is one of the most picturesque cities in North America it exudes old world charm and has a distinctively British flair. You ll discover the heart and soul of the City of Gardens on this tour and appreciate why so many visitors from around the world come each year to visit. Starting at Ogden Point you ll head into the residential neighborhoods, complete with manicured lawns, abundant flowers of all shapes and sizes, and million dollar views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Olympic Mountain range. Your tour will continue through the city's impressive Beacon Hill Park, complete with free flying peacocks and the world's tallest freestanding totem pole. After enjoying the sites of old town and Chinatown, you ll enter Victoria's Inner Harbor. This lively area is home to the Royal British Columbia Museum, numerous street performers, craft vendors, food stalls, Parliament Buildings and the world famous Fairmont Empress Hotel. While your knowledgeable guide points out some of Victoria s most interesting sights, you'll travel in comfort aboard an eco friendly B100 coach fueled by biodiesel, made from recycled waste cooking oil collected from cruise ships visiting Victoria. With views of Beacon Hill Park as well as rolling landscapes and farmland en route, you'll arrive at Canada s famed National Historic Site Butchart Gardens. The gardens were transformed from a lifeless rock quarry to a horticultural masterpiece over 100 years ago. Stroll at your own pace through 55 acres of beautiful blooms and themed gardens. Your participation on this excursion will help support the local James Bay Community School, allowing vulnerable families the opportunity for their children to be able to partake in youth getaways, summer sports camps and more. With its manicured lawns and impressive displays of gardens and hanging baskets adorning the streets, on this one hour excursion you ll see why Victoria is nicknamed the City of Gardens. At the cruise terminal you ll board your trolley, powered by two magnificent draught horses. Get cozy in your seat and feel free to wrap yourself in the provided blanket to ward off the sometimes cool evening air of this port city. Your journey will take you past the gorgeous historical homes, located between the cruise terminal and the downtown inner harbor. Here you ll find a garden that embraces a natural landscape that is unique to Victoria, with dramatic glaciated rocky slopes, magnificent native Garry Oaks and gorgeous vistas. The garden flows around the rock, taking advantage of deeper pockets of soil for Conifers, Japanese Maples and Rhododendrons which over the last 50 years have grown to an impressive maturity. Abkhazi Gardens is listed as one of the top 100 gardens in the world. After your walk through the garden with your guide, come relax in the Tea House with a cup of tea and freshly baked scones. As you descend through the forest and over the beautiful Sooke Hills, British Columbia, your guides will provide you with interesting facts and stories about the local ecology and history of the area. 7 $156* $119* 4½ hours VICTORIA BY BIKE Victoria, British Columbia Tour Code: VIC_39 Victoria is known as the cycling capital of Canada and offers great cycling routes throughout the city. Join your guide on a leisurely circular route through quiet neighborhoods, tree lined streets and see some of the highlights of this lovely city. At Ogden Point you ll be provided with a suitable bicycle, safety gear, and safety procedures to follow. Your guide will highlight numerous points of interest on your ride and answer any questions that you may have. Stops will be made at Fisherman s Wharf, the downtown shopping district and Chinatown. On your return, you ll pass the majestic Parliament Buildings, The Empress Hotel and the Royal British Columbia Museum. You may ride back to the pier with your guide or enjoy more time here and return to the ship on your own. Note: Participants must be at least 12 years of age. A reasonable level of fitness is required and biking experience is essential. Participants should be able to ride approximately 6 miles, about 1 hour and 45 minutes. Route has been chosen to avoid uphill climbs. Dress in warm layers and bring rain gear. Informal rests and photo stops will be taken as needed. Equipment is provided. 8 Activity Levels Involves walking over relatively level terrain, possibly some cobblestone, gravel or a few steps. Comfortable shoes are recommended. Involves a considerable amount of physical activity such as substantial walking over cobblestone streets, climbing stairs or steep terrain. They re not recommended for guests with walking difficulties. Comfortable, sturdy shoes are recommended. Involves physical exertion for extended periods. The terrain may be uneven or steep. It can also indicate a need for swimming in a light current, biking or horseback riding. Recommended only for physically fit and adventurous travelers. 8/11

C Card Must present a nationally recognized Scuba certification card, logged a dive within the past 12 months and bring a physician's note if you have a medical condition or are taking medication at the time of cruising. Debark Tour will conclude at the airport, a Norwegian Cruise Line program hotel or an assigned central location for your convenience. Guests are responsible for ensuring their debarkation tour is compatible with their departure flight times. Family Recommended This tour is great for families. Flightseeing Tours Due to aircraft weight and balance limitations, the flight company charges an additional rate for passengers that weigh 250 lbs. or more.
