1 INTER-DISCIPLINARY PROJECT THEME: SUSTAINABLE TOURISM FOR DEVELOPMENT CLASS IX Inter-disciplinary Project is a knowledge view and curriculum approach entails the use and integration of methods and analytical frameworks from more than one academic discipline to examine a theme, issue, question or topic. Interdisciplinary study allows for synthesis of ideas and the synthesis of characteristics from many disciplines. At the same time it addresses students individual differences and helps to develop important, transferable skills. These skills, such as critical thinking, communication and analysis are important and continually developing at all stages of life. Educational systems are serving students best if they enable and encourage students to build their own interdisciplinary pathway. This approach is sure to foster a love of learning, ignite a spark of enthusiasm and address learning differences for students by helping them develop their cognitive abilities - brain-based skills and mental processes that are needed to carry out tasks. The United Nations General Assembly declared 2017 the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development. Keeping the declaration in mind, the school has planned the holiday homework to foster better understanding amongst the children about the importance of international tourism and the need to sustain tourism for development of the nations. Considering tourism as an important part of any country for giving insight into its culture, values, beliefs, religious practices, diversity, rich heritage and various civilizations, activities have been designed as part of holistic approach to help children express their creativity, imagination and thoughts. We wish that our students not only enjoy their vacations filled with fun and frolic, at the same time consistently pursue their academic and co curricular endeavors. This project comprises of 6 parts A, B, C, D and E Please note that Parts E and F are individual projects. The guidelines given under these sections must be followed to complete the projects. They must be compiled in different folders by students individually and submitted separately The class will be divided into groups comprising 5 members each on the basis of roll numbers i.e., 1-5, 6-10, etc. (8 groups per class) Each group is expected to do all the 5 tasks given under each part(one task per child for each part) Each group will have a leader who will be coordinating with the group members, so that the work is completed and submitted on time Each group will collate and present their work in one single file only Make use of eco-friendly materials for preparing the models Note: Students can avail the internet facility at school (8am to 12 noon) from 22 nd May to 26 th May Information for the same must be given to the class teachers by 19 th May, 2017.

2 Part A India is a country with diversified culture and traditions and words are few to explain its beauty. The natural beauty of India, festivals, dresses, heritage sites are very popular among tourists. Thus, India showcases a variety of tourism options which includes Ecological Tourism, Pilgrimage Tourism, Historical Tourism, Adventure Tourism, Medical Tourism and Ayurveda Tourism. A variety of campaigns like Incredible India and Atithi Devo Bhava have been able to glorify the Image of India around the globe. But there is a dark side to this industry also. Tourism brings a lot of changes in the surroundings of a destination. The resources of the tourist destinations are exploited, thus, leaving the spot unfit for future endeavors. The need of the hour is Sustainable Tourism in order to prevent the tourist spots from being hampered. Connecting Chapter: How I Taught My Grandmother to Read Krishatakka, the grandmother, had an ardent desire to visit Kashi and worship Lord Vishveshwara to earn ultimate punya. India has attracted many tourists from within the country and abroad to all these religious tourist destinations, thus, giving rise to pilgrimage tourism. Due to an increase in footfall, these religious places are also losing their charm and a need has arisen to save these places to sustain tourism. TASK 1: Tourists are the primal engenders of India s economy, incubating the admiration and appreciation of the country. It is over-riding duty of every citizen to help increase sustainable tourism of their country. The historical monuments are losing their charm because of the littered environment and damage being caused by scribbling on the walls of the heritage sites You have noticed that people often visit various tourist destinations and leave the spots after littering the area with wrappers, plastic bottles, food items, etc. Create a pamphlet highlighting the do s and don ts to be kept in mind while visiting these heritage sites. TASK 2: Cleanliness is a factor that is watched by anyone who is visiting diverse locations. It becomes a proxy which allures and fascinates the visitors to sojourn their hankered destinations. Clean India, Green India was an initiative by the government to encourage the cleanliness of the surroundings. The Wildlife Sanctuaries and National Parks are exploited by the visitors, thereby harming the peaceful environment of the surroundings Youth in India is the most important carrier of change. Student community can help in spreading awareness about keeping the National parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries litter free. Design 3 posters with slogans to be put around the tourist destinations to keep the tourists from littering the environment and teasing their humble brethren. TASK 3: Tourists always look for destinations that are ostensibly safe and secure and it is the supreme and primal duty of every Indian to make it plausible Keeping in mind the idiomatic essence of Atithi Devo Bhava, write a proposal for the Indian Police Department on Remonstrance of Jeopardy (Safety and Security) - a Duty of every Citizen suggesting ways to make India a secure tourist destination. TASK 4: India is known around the world as Incredible India! We must try to keep this incredibility of good and positive things intact in order to attract a lot many visitors

3 to the country. The diversity in culture, languages, religions and values makes India altogether a different country Design 6 Table Mats for the restaurants showcasing the culture, values, traditions, costumes, festivals etc. Do not forget to write about the chosen aspect of India for each mat in a verse form. TASK 5: Proper guidance is the need of every tourist visiting India. It becomes difficult for a visitor to move and survive without a guide. An assurance of proper guidance increases tourism to a great extent Design two advertisements (video scripts) to be played on Railway Stations/ Airports/ Metro Stations for the tourists giving information about various information centers available for their convenience. Illustrate these advertisements scene by scene in the form of a comic strip. Part B (a)

Il a été défini de plusieurs façons et est généralement utilisé pour décrire les activités touristiques menées en harmonie avec la nature. Tâche 1 - Annoncez des activités d'éco-aventure en concevant 5 affiches en format A4. Chaque affiche devrait promouvoir une activité différente. Faites des cadres colorés des affiches et soutenez-les avec des supports en bois minces. Écrivez également un slogan pour votre publicité.

5 Tâche 2 - Les sanctuaires et les parcs nationaux protègent l'ensemble de l'écosystème et se consacrent toujours à la protection de la faune et à la conservation des espèces. Concevez un itinéraire créatif de 3 jours de n'importe quel endroit pour votre ami français qui souhaite visiter ces lieux en vacances d'été. Créez également un résumé de page avec des images attrayantes de vos plans de voyage sur une feuille de format A4. Tâche 3 - Faire un panneau d'affichage attrayant de la dimension 15'x15 ', montrant les images de cinq principales destinations touristiques écologiques de la France et partager également l'information en 60 mots sur la façon dont ces endroits sont respectueux de l'environnement. Utilisez des points de balle et un pinceau pour l'écriture. Encadrez également votre tableau avec des feuilles colorées. Tâche 4 - Tourisme responsable est la tentative de protéger l'environnement, de respecter l'authenticité socioculturelle et de conserver les ressources naturelles. En tant que citoyen indien responsable, écrivez que vous faites(dix) et vous ne faites pas(cinq)en tant que touriste devrait promouvoir le tourisme durable. Ecrivez ensuite sur des pancartes de dimension de 30x20 centimètres. Sélectionnez une police de couleurs vibrante pour écrire et une feuille de fond sourde. Tâche 5 - Concevoir une affiche attrayante sur "Le Monde Vert". Donnez-le un titre accrocheur et une écriture de 60 mots sur son côté inverse. Part C Medical tourism is a new form of niche tourism increasingly becoming popular in the current world and India has emerged as a popular destination for providing Global standards of health care at affordable costs. More recently there has been a spatial shift in medical travel especially to Asian countries from advanced economies. The term medical tourism is the act of travelling to other countries to obtain medical, dental and surgical care. Medical tourism is a popular mass culture where people travel to overseas countries to obtain healthcare services and facilities such as medical, dental and surgical care, whilst having the opportunity to visit tourist spots of that country. With the help of above link, perform the following tasks: TASK 1: Analyse the status of medical tourism in India(in 100 words) TASK 2: List the reasons of growth of medical tourism in India(5-6 reasons) TASK 3: Represent the number of Foreign tourist arrival to India for medical reasons from top 10 countries in the year 2015 in the form of Bar Graph and interpret it TASK 4: Represent the share of foreign tourist arrivals for medical reasons to India by top 5 states in the form of pie chart and interpret it TASK 5: Collect data about comparative rates of important treatment in various countries(five only) and draw conclusions

6 Part D Integrating biodiversity conservation and sustainable tourism development provide a mechanism for bringing a balanced approach to development in biologically sensitive environments. Biodiversity conservation and sustainable tourism are integrated, thus, the threats and challenges to biodiversity tend to impact negatively on the tourism and vice versa. Sustainable tourism provides a tool for biodiversity conservation which in turn supports and reinforces sustainable tourism. Hence, biodiversity remains one of the foremost attractions for the nature lovers.
