3 KÖSSEN WALCHSEE SCHWENDT RETTENSCHÖSS Kössen is particularly captivating for winter sports enthusiasts: during the cold season in a wintry glow of lights countless paragliders take off from Unterberg mountain, while skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts zigzag down the mountain and cross-country skiers enjoy the endless cross-country trails at the foot of the mountain. Kössen is a true Eldorado for athletes from all over the world. Walchsee, the town and the lake, present themselves calmly and magically in accord, complement each other harmoniously and offer a backdrop for unbelievable natural spectacles. The ice covered Walchsee is magical when the temperatures are freezing cold. In the winter season, the easy slopes attract families and beginners alike, who learn their first turns with a lot of fun. Great and mighty, the Wilder Kaiser mountains look down on the tranquil mountain village of Schwendt. 5 CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING IN THE VALLEY Unpack your cross-country skis and conquer the record-breaking km network of cross-country ski trails in the valley, which lead across the entire Kaiserwinkl. On one of the longest cross-country ski trails in Tyrol at 21 km, you will get to know the entire region and its variety. For all the night-owls among you, there is also a well illuminated night trail. GOOD TO KNOW Our cross-country ski trails have been awarded the Tyrolean cross-country trail seal of quality. FLY KÖSSEN You will surely hear the flying greeting often on the Unterberg-horn at about 1,800 m above sea level. Here, you are in the middle of the stronghold and pioneer site of European hang gliding and paragliding. Flight enthusiasts from all over the world float like majestic eagles overhead and draw colourful patterns in our skies every day. Try it out or take off in a hot air balloon. Visit the unique Kaiserwinkl Alpine-Ballooning, which is also the largest balloon meeting in Central Europe. WOULD YOU CARE FOR SOME MORE? 6 WALCHSEE DARE TO TAKE THE FIRST TURN The small but extremely fine skiing area of Walchsee is ideal for young families, because you will find easy slopes at the edge of the village at the foot of the Zahmen Kaiser mountains. These are perfect for all skiers and snowboarders who practice their first turns. Our littlest holidaymakers especially love the ski region, as the child-friendly ski school and the modern ski kindergarten with magic carpet and carousel provide variety. 7 CROSS-COUN- TRY SKIING ENJOYMENT GUARANTEED The Kaiserwinkl region is famous for its cross-country skiing far beyond the borders of Tyrol. The reason for this is its extensive network of cross-country trails, which has been awarded the Tyrolean cross-country trail seal of quality. The Kaiserwinkl is also one of the top cross-country skiing areas in the Alps because of its approximately two kilometres of snow-covered cross-country ski trails, which are completely independent of the weather conditions of winter. Glide over the freshly groomed cross-country ski trails on Walchsee or circle the Schwemm Nature Reserve (Natura 2,000). CHRISTMAS FAIRY-TALES DO COME TRUE In winter, the snow-covered Lake Walchsee and the village of the same name are reminiscent of a fantastic fairy-tale landscape. Especially during the Christmas season, when streets, houses, guesthouses and hotels are illuminated and decorated trees line the streets, you will be reminded of an Alpine Christmas from old times. Tradition and customs are now at the centre of life. The locals celebrate the Advent season quietly and contemplatively. Children s wide eyes watch as the lovely village prepares for Christmas.

8 SCHWENDT ORIGINAL & CONTEMPLATIVE Heat 1 litre of red wine with 3 cinnamon sticks, lemon zest, 1 lemon (in slices), 1 orange (in slices), 6 cloves and 5 Tbsp. of crystal sugar for 1 hour, but do not boil. Remove from heat and leave to stand for at least half an hour. Enjoy mulled wine warm! Schwendter mulled wine recipe The dreamy mountain village of Schwendt is just a few kilometres further into the Kaiser mountains and at 700 metres above sea level. Here you will find ski trails, wild animal tracks in the snow and hear horse-drawn sleighs gliding through the wintry mountain landscape instead of cars. In this fairy-tale-like village everything is still very original, here you will learn to appreciate the simple things like cosiness and peace. Cut off from the noise of the world, Schwendt is perfectly connected to the other towns in the region by the cross-country trail network and the connecting road. A highlight is the toboggan run near Schwendt. On beautiful winter days there is always a lively hustle and bustle. Big and small unpack sledges, bobsleds and toboggans and conquer the slopes with lots of fun and laughter. 9 RETTENSCHÖSS Wash 4 apples well and remove the casing. For the filling, fry 100 g ground almonds in a pan (without fat) and mix with 3 Tbsp. sugar, lemon peel, juice of one lemon, 2 Tbsp. cranberry jam and 3 Tbsp. milk and fill into the apples. Brush apples with butter and bake at 220 C for approx. 20 minutes.
