1 Introduces - Tucson, Arizona Tucson is the true Southwest: a city alive with character, history, diversity and pure charm. Hospitality isn t just a buzzword. It s a genuine way of life. A stunning desert setting, ruggedly handsome mountains, gently rolling hills and clear blue skies create unmatched natural beauty, geography and climate. Tucson is a fast-growing city of nearly 700,000 people. This modern metropolis is complimented by an uncomplicated way of life where bustling offices coexist with wide open spaces. More than a century of habitation in this desert valley has created a rich blend of cultures. The Hohokam ( the vanished ones ) Indians farmed the area in the first century when it was fed by a river. Then they inexplicably disappeared, later to be replaced by Pima and Tohono O odham tribes. Spanish missionary Father Eusebio Francisco Kino made his initial visit in 1687 to what the Pima Indians called Stjukshon, meaning roughly, spring at the foot of a black mountain. The word referred to the then-flowing Santa Cruz River. The city of Tucson was founded August 20, 1775, by Irishman Hugh O Connor, more notably known as Hugo O Connor for his explorations for Spain. A walled presidio provided refuge for travelers and residents and was soon nicknamed the Old Pueblo, an endearment still used today. Spain s claim to Tucson ended when Mexico gained independence in The Mormon Battalion took over the city in 1846 in the name of the United States, under whose flag Tucson remained except for a brief period when Confederate soldiers seized the city during the Civil War. Tucson was known as a rowdy frontier town tempered by social refinements brought by city settlers. In 1867, when the Old Pueblo was named capital of the newly formed Arizona Territory, the townspeople invested in what they hoped would become a stable community. The capital was moved north before Arizona became a state in Tucson ultimately was allowed to establish another prestigious state institution, the University of Arizona. Tucson enjoys more sunshine than any other city in the United States, about 350 days each year. Winter temperatures are mild, while summers allow for outdoor activity at any hour of the day or evening. Two rainy seasons replenish the desert landscape. Low humidity compliments sunny living for most of the year by making warm temperatures feel cooler. Destination & Conference Services, Inc. looks forward to helping you experience Tucson with true southwestern hospitality. 1

Guests are requested to arrive at the resort front drive fifteen minutes prior to their scheduled tour time to meet the representative from DCS. THE SONORAN DESERT ATV ADVENTURE The uniqueness of the Sonoran Desert is something that shouldn t be missed, and there is no better way to experience it then up close and personal on an ATV. You and your professional tour guide will depart the resort for Box Canyon, which is about an hour transfer from Tucson and is located in the heart of the Sonoran Desert. Once there, you ll begin with a safety briefing including a written check list and your instructor/guide will demonstrate basic maneuvers of driving an ATV. Following instruction, drivers will then demonstrate their driving skill for the guides who will then decide the difficulty of the route to be taken. The trails you ll follow through the desert are abandoned gold and silver mining trails dating back to the late 1800 s and early 1900 s. The tour is approximately 37 miles in length, 7 miles within the canyon itself, and will take over 3 hours to complete. You ll climb and descend nearly 2,000 vertical feet in elevation while surrounded by giant Saguaro and Ocotillo cactus. The tour includes stops at an old mining camp, ancient Indian rock art and a stage coach depot located at the bottom of the canyon. This is an exciting adventure passing through many points in the canyon that are only feet wide while the cliff face ascends almost 900 feet on either side of the trail. Helmets, goggles, gloves and bandana will be provided. 6-7 hour event Sturdy Shoes / Boots Jeans / Long Pants Sunglasses Sun Hat Sun Screen Approximate transfer time one hour 22

TRAP & SKEET SHOOTING Tucson Trap and Skeet Club has served southern Arizona's shooting sportsman since its original incorporation in The club faces north with a beautiful view of the Tucson Mountains. Home of the Old Pueblo Skeet Open, the Winter Chain Trap Shoot, and the annual Satellite Spring Grand American, the club is one of the largest facilities in the country. The 9000 square foot club house includes a restaurant, bar and lounge. Trap shooting is one of the three major forms of competitive clay pigeon shooting. The others are Skeet shooting and Sporting Clays. Trap shooting has been a sport since at least 1793 when it used real birds, usually the then-extremely abundant Passenger Pigeon. Fake birds were introduced around the time of the American Civil War as the Passenger Pigeon was nearing extinction and sufficient numbers were not reliably available. Clay targets were introduced in the 1880's. The layout of modern trap shooting has only one house that releases targets and the shooters only move through 5 different positions. The trap machine throws the birds in a random pattern limited to a 44 degree horizontal arc, with the birds exiting the house at about 47 miles per hour and traveling about 50 yards before hitting the ground. Skeet shooting was invented by William Harnden Foster, an avid grouse hunter, in 1915 as a sport called Clock Shooting and evolved to its current setup by In 1926 a contest was held to name the new sport, and Gertrude Hurlbutt named it skeet, which is derived from the Scandinavian word for "shoot". 23

24 Skeet is a recreational and competitive activity where participants attempt to break clay disks flung into the air at high speed from a variety of angles. The event is in part meant to simulate the action of bird hunting. The shooter shoots from 7 positions on a semi-circle and an 8th position halfway between stations 1 and 7. There are two houses that hold devices known as "traps" that launch the targets, one at each corner of the semi-circle. A professional guide will accompany you through the course, explaining each station. The thrill of breaking clay targets delights even those who have never shot before. There is a minimum of (20) guests required for this event. 4.5 hour event Comfortable Walking Shoes Sunglasses Sun Hat Sun Screen Shorts Okay Approximate transfer time 45 mins. GRAND CANYON AIR AND GROUND TOUR One of the great natural wonders of the world, the Grand Canyon is a visual splendor that changes minute by minute. On your 1½ hour flight to the Grand Canyon you will be treated to panoramic views of towering pinnacles and sheer canyon walls of vivid red sandstone in Sedona, Arizona. Continuing on over Flagstaff you ll see the desert landscape give way to Ponderosa Pines and the majestic San Francisco peaks from afar. The 30 minute flight over the Grand Canyon offers awesome works of nature s plunging gorges, multicolored rock formations, and below the rim, the thin winding Colorado River. Your ground tour guide will give you a one hour tour of the South Rim and it s many vista points. Lunch will be served at a nearby Lodge, which sits on the rim of the canyon. Following lunch, you ll view a spectacular film at the IMAX Theater which penetrates the innermost depths of the Grand Canyon, taking you where you could never go and showing you things you could never see. Many gift shops are available for that tangible memory of an amazing adventure. 8 hour event. 25 COMPANION PROGRAMS ON-PROPERTY REFLEXOLOGY Reflexology is the application of pressure to specific points on the feet (and sometimes the hands) believed to have correspondences with various organs and systems of the body. In the United States, this modality has become popular largely as a form of message, but in other countries it is accepted as a legitimate medical treatment for conditions ranging from asthma to ear infections. Reflexology may be older than acupuncture itself, and is rooted in the same theory that energy pathways, or meridians, exist throughout the body, beginning and ending with the hands and feet, and that blockages in these pathways lead to illness. Come explore this ancient treatment, it may offer health benefits far beyond simple relaxation. SWEET DREAMS AROMATHERAPY CLASS Join Terri Nacke, Eco-ista & Founder of La Bella Terre, Botany for the Body, for this one-of-akind class. Aromatherapy is the practice of using volatile plant oils, including essential oils, for psychological and physical well-being. The Greeks, Romans, and ancient Egyptians all used aromatherapy oils. In this sweet dreams class guests will create their own soothing eye pillow with a blend of organic lavender and chamomile in a French-inspired fabric, softened with a silk backing, to send guests on a relaxing nap, a good night s sleep or a more comfortable journey.
