ARIZONA ROUNDUP AZ UNIT WBCCI MONTHLY NEWSLETTER JANUARY 2017 Fro the Preside t s Desk: CASA GRANDE RALLY The weather was cold and rainy, but the atmosphere was warm and friendly at our club rally held in conjunction with the Mid- Winter WBCCI International Board of Trustees meeting at the fairgrounds in Casa Grande. Our own Barbara Vaughn, Region 11 President, organized and hosted the affair in which more than 70 rigs and over 150 people came to conduct the international lu s usi ess. happy hour. The next morning, after a sumptuous cooked breakfast prepared by Roger Pruter and his team of volunteers, the Executive Committee and region officers got down to business. See accompanying article for IBT results. But it as t all ork a d o play. A highlight of the week was a tour and lunch at the Queen Creek Olive Mill. Our We kicked-off the event on Monday evening with a Margaritas a d Maria his own Denny Kuller got toes-a-tap 1

This was followed by 93-year-old Navajo Code Talker Samuel Holiday, who reminisced about his life on the reservation and his experiences with the Marine wove a powerful tapestry of music and stories--a reflection of his mixed-blood American Indian and Celtic heritages--with his violin, native flutes and Irish whistles. Internationally renowned family dance company "Yellow Bird Productions" demonstrated traditional dance and stories that celebrated the unique spirit Corps fighting in the Pacific Theater during World War II. By Friday, the IBT had finished all of its work. Former Region 11 President and Colorado Unit member Roger Pruter prepared one last feast for dinner. After the e e i g s e tertainment International President Richard 2

Girard, who lives in Dewey- MID-WINTER IBT RESULTS The WBCCI International Board of Trustees (IBT) assembled in Casa Grande, Arizona from January 17th to the 20th to meet and discuss the International Clu s business ahead of the Roger Pruter is a known cut-up Humboldt, gave a great big thank you to all of the Arizona Club members who worked so hard to help Barbara make this event a huge success and welcome our fellow IBT Table Decoration up close. International rally in July. Committee reports were given, budget items and club organization were discussed, and over 35 amendments to the constitution and by-laws were presented and voted upon. Airstreamers from all over the United States and Canada to Arizona. 3 Many of the amendments dealt with CBL wording changes presented by Tom Smithson, President of Region 12. Almost all of them passed, but some were carried over to

I ter atio al. I o t ore you with the minutia, but there were several issues worth noting: A motion was passed allowing all Units to design their own badges IBT Table Decorations. Boots were filled with flowers and butterflies. A bandana, rope and horse shoe completed the center piece. Good job Mary Lou Doster unique to their Units; however, the standard-issue WBCCI badge ill e the offi ial adge for all International and Regional rallies as well as caravans because it ser es as the e ers passport to events. A otio to delete Arti le V, Dis ipli ary Pro edures fro the Blue Book and replace it with a o pletely re ised Arti le V, Me er Grie a e Pro edures 4 was deferred to International following wording changes and a re ie y the Clu s attor ey. Speaking of attorneys, there was one major disappointment effecting the Arizona clu s o CBL changes: All 5 otio s ha gi g U its names or flags to include the ord Airstrea ere deferred until International. This was done at the recommendation of Thor I dustries I., Airstrea s parent company, to give their lawyers time to review the trademark implications of using the a e Airstrea, hi h is now being violated by some overseas entities. This means that our CBL changes may not be approved until July. Lawyer joke: A lawyer e-mailed a lie t: Dear Je ifer: Thought I saw you on the street the other day. Looking forward to seeing everyone. Thanks Mike & Gail AZ UNIT RALLY CIVIL WAR REENACTMENT AT PICACHO PEAK STATE PARK 5 The rally site is confirmed for March 16-19, 2017, and we are ready to take reservations. We will dry camp at the West Jackrabbit group site in Picacho Peak State Park. The rate is $15 per night (paid at the entrance) plus a small group fee that will be included in the rally fee. Take Interstate 10 to exit 219 and follow the signs for the Park. A map of the park will be provided as you enter. Camping is in a large parking lot with parallel sites. No hook-ups are available. A maximum of 14 units can be accommodated for the rally so get your reservation in early. The campground has a large group fire-ring with group grill, a large group Ramada and portable toilets. Access to campground's restroom/shower buildings in another area is included. Water and sewer are available at the dump station, with potable water also available. Bathrooms are clean and modern with hot showers. Lots of hiking and the sunsets and sunrises should be stunning. Wildflowers may be in bloom as a result of our recent rains.

Pi a ho Peak s ost oted historic event occurred on April 15, 1862, when Confederate and Union scouting parties met in the Battle of Picacho Pass during the Civil War. This was the largest Civil War clash to take place in Arizona. Hundreds of spectators descend on Picacho Peak State Park to watch reenactments of an Arizona Civil War skirmish. More than 200 reenactors come from many states and will camp at the park with their authentic Civil War camping gear. Food and beverage concessions will be available. Access to the reenactment is provided via a desert trial from our campsite or via car to an offsite parking area. There is no extra charge to attend the re-enactment if you walk, however a vehicle fee will be charged if you drive. The trail will be closed during the actual events. Be prepared for a good size crowd. Nearby is the Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch if you need additional entertainment. Fuel and snacks are available at nearby businesses on the north side of 6 the Interstate. There are no other nearby facilities. If you plan to attend drop us an email as soon as possible at KDCHARLES@Q.COM. Space is limited and we will reserve space on a first come-first served basis. Details of the rally meals and any other activities will be in the next newsletter. UPDATE FROM PAST PRESIDENT JIM MOSER AND SHELLEY RANDALL To the members, Arizona Airstream Club: Thank you, thank you! Shelley and I will enjoy using the coupon to Amazon that you gave us at the end of our term. We are both avid readers, so we will look forward to new books this year. Also, during our service to the unit, we deeply appreciated encouragement by so many and the cheerful help provided by those who made each rally a success. We look forward to future rallies and other events in our Arizona

Airstream Club, but for now Shelley and I must take a short hiatus. Our trailer was totally destroyed by the accident in Tennessee. Therefore, it has been hauled to a salvage yard, and we anticipate obtaining another one in May. We look forward to seeing you down the road. Be safe!
