School Travel Planning Program Violet Skirten, Crossing Guard Supervisor, Planning and Infrastructure Services advised the Committee that Conestoga Public School and Beryl Ford Public School are still participating in the program and have a travel plan in place. Ms. Skirten advised that Conestoga Public School is waiting to receive walking route signage. She noted that the program is funded by the Region of Peel and only 4-5 schools participate per year. The program is not open to all schools at this time. E 3. Bicycle Parking Pilot Project Violet Skirten, Crossing Guard Supervisor, Planning and Infrastructure Services advised the Committee that a list of all schools participating in the program will be distributed at the next meeting. C1-7 2. That Thomas Tsung, Manager of Maintenance Services, Peel District School Board, be requested to report back on this matter at the Brampton Safety Council meeting of September 4, 2013. F 4. Discussion at the request of Kyle Charbonneau, Coordinator, Brampton Transit, re: General Areas of Concern for Brampton Transit Drivers (File G25SA). Kyle Charbonneau, Coordinator, Brampton Transit, advised the Committee that Brampton Transit receives a high volume of complaints from their bus drivers regarding pedestrian/traffic safety concerns in several areas throughout Brampton surrounding school zones. Mr. Charbonneau noted that he will bringing forward to the September meeting the most significant areas of concern and request that site inspections be undertaken. Mr. Charbonneau advised the Committee that he would provide details pertaining to signage to assist the committee. SC075-2014 That the verbal advisory from Kyle Charbonneau, coordinator, Brampton Transit, re: General Areas of Concern for Brampton Transit Drivers (File G25SA) be received. G. Future Planning G 1. New School Openings Thomas Tsung, Manager of Maintenance Services, Peel District School Board, advised Committee that there are no additional schools scheduled to open in September 2014. G 2. Changes City s Perspective/School Boards G 2 1. Pre-Design Feasibility Study to Improve Traffic Circulation and Safety Around Turner Fenton Secondary School, May 2014. Thomas Tsung, Manager of Maintenance Services, Peel District School Board, advised Committee that a consultant was hired to conduct a detailed study regarding the traffic concerns at Turner Fenton Secondary School. Mr. Tsung 2014 06 05 Page 7 of 15

noted that 4 options were presented. However, after the principal and parent council met, none of the options was selected, rather a mixture of the options was requested. Item G 2 3 was the preferred option because there is a loop and a layby lane at the entrance of the school. It was suggested the item G 2 4 also be implemented with item G 2 3 as this will allow the entrance off Kennedy Road to include a Drop off /Pick-up area (same as a Kiss and Ride at elementary schools). The proposed drop off/pick up area has a wide laneway that would accommodate three to four lanes of traffic and include a gate that swings. The gate would allow staff to control the flow of traffic. Mr. Tsung also noted that once a finalized drawing has been completed, it will be shared with the Committee. C1-8 SC076-2014 That the report from Thomas Tsung, Manager of Maintenance Services, Peel District School Board, re: Pre-Design Feasibility Study to Improve Traffic Circulation and Safety Around Turner Fenton Secondary School, May 2014 (File G25SA) be received. G 3. Additions to Schools / Expected Student Population Increase / Decrease G 3 1 Dufferin Peel Catholic District School Board Full-Day Kindergarten List for September 2014 It was noted that the schools on the list are the schools starting full day kindergarten with the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board. H. Brampton Safety Council Promotional Activities - nil I. Brampton Safety Council (BSC) Sub-Committee/Ad Hoc Committee I 1. I 2. Ad Hoc Committee to Review and Develop Options for Addressing Safety Concerns at Brampton Schools Site Inspection Request Form 2014 06 05 Page 8 of 15

J. Other/New Business C1-9 J 1. Enforcement and By-law Services 2014 School Patrol Statistics Report (File G25SA). Mike Mulick, Enforcement Supervisor, Enforcement and By-law Services, provided an overview and answered questions regarding the 2014 School Patrol Program Statistics Report. SC077-2014 1. That the Enforcement and By-law Services 2013 School Patrol Statistics (File G25SA), to the Meeting of June 5, 2014, be received. J 2. Discussion at the request of the City Clerk s Office, re: Frank Lodhar, Request For Leave Of Absence. The City Clerk s Office advised the Committee the Mr. Lodhar sent regrets due to personal medical issues and expects to return in September 2014. The Committee agreed to a leave of absence. SC078-2014 1. That the verbal advisory from the City Clerk s Office, re: Frank Lodhar, Request For Leave Of Absence (File G25SA), to the Meeting of June 5, 2014, be received. K. Site Inspection Report(s) 2. That a leave of absence for Frank Lodhar, committee Member, be granted, with a return expected in September 2014. K 1. Fairlawn Public School 40 Fairlawn Boulevard Ward 10 Review Pedestrian/Traffic Safety Concerns Tuesday, May 6, 2014 Committee reviewed the observations and recommendations in the site inspection report and considered the following motion. 2014 06 05 Page 9 of 15

C1-10 SC079-2014 1. That the site inspection report dated May 6, 2014, to the Brampton School Traffic Safety Council Meeting of June 5, 2014, re: Fairlawn Public School 40 Fairlawn Boulevard Ward 10, be received; and 2. That the Manager of Traffic Engineering Services be requested to arrange for the following: a) Install corner restrictions on both sides of the driveway used by the buses and the driveway used for the parking lot and Kiss and Ride area; and, b) Install No Stopping, Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. To 5:00 p.m. on the east side of Fairlawn Boulevard for the length of the school property and No Parking, Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the west side of Fairlawn Boulevard; and, 3. That the Manager of Maintenance Services, Peel District School Board, be requested to consider painting pavement markings for the bus drop off and loading lane; and, 4. That the East Planning and Operations Office, Student Transportation of Peel Region be requested to consider notifying the Crossing Guard Supervisor when the temporary buses are being removed to determine if a crossing guard is warranted at that time; and, 5. That, based on observations made during the site inspection, it is the position of the Brampton Safety Council that an Adult Crossing Guard is not warranted in front of Fairlawn Public School at this time. K 2. McHugh Public School 31 Craig Street Ward 4 Review Pedestrian/Traffic Safety Concerns Monday, May 12, 2014 Committee reviewed the observations and recommendations in the site inspection report and considered the following motion. SC080-2014 1. That the Manager of Traffic Engineering Services arrange for the implementation of a Bus Loading zone on the east side of Elliot Street from Craig Street to the stopping restrictions north of the crossing guard location; and, 3. That the Principal be requested to consider encouraging school administration staff to park at the Memorial Arena parking lot so the space on Elliot Street is kept free for parents/guardians dropping their children off at school. St. Jean-Marie Vianney Catholic Elementary School 75 Jordensen Drive Ward 6 New School Follow-up Site Inspection Tuesday, May 13, 2014 Committee reviewed the observations and recommendations in the site inspection report and considered the following motion. SC081-2014 1. That the site inspection report dated May 13, 2014, to the Brampton School Traffic Safety Council Meeting of June 5, 2014, re: St. Jean- Marie Vianney Catholic Elementary School 75 Jordensen Drive Ward 6, be received; and 2. That Peel Regional Police be requested to consider visiting this site and observe the traffic, specifically at the intersection across from the school at Jordensen Drive and Abbotsbury Drive; and, 3. That the Manager of Traffic Engineering Services arrange for the following: a) Refresh the road markings at the intersection of Jordensen Drive and Abbotsbury Drive; and b) Corner restriction at both the entrance and exits to the school on Jordensen; and, c) Refresh the cross walk pavement markings; and, 4. The manager of Roads and Operations arrange for the repair of the hole in the sidewalk on the school side directly across from the crosswalk. 5. That the General Manager, Physical Plant Facilities, Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board be requested to consider the following: 2014 06 05 Page 11 of 15

C1-12 a) Install a fence between the two driveways on the property in front of the school to stop the pedestrian traffic from crossing in the bus loading and unloading area and vehicle exit lane b) Install a stop sign on the left side of the exit with no entrance on the street side c) Clearly mark the exit as two lanes for exit left and right turn lanes with pavement markings and/or signs d) Install a stop sign at the end of the Kiss and Ride to stop traffic at the walkway 6. That the Principal be requested to consider encouraging staff at the kiss and ride to move up the vehicles on a regular basis to keep the flow. K 4. St. Andre Bessette Catholic Elementary School 25 Riverstone Drive Ward 10 New School Follow-up Site Inspection Thursday, May 15, 2014 Committee consideration of this matter included: Review of the observations and recommendations in the subject site inspection report Clerical correction noted in Observation # 6 to change the year 2013 to reflect 2014. SC082-2014 1. That the site inspection report dated May 15, 2014, to the Brampton School Traffic Safety Council Meeting of June 5, 2014, re: St. Andre Bessette Catholic Elementary School 25 Riverstone Drive Ward 10, be received; and 2. That the Manager of Traffic Engineering services be requested to arrange for the following: a) Implement No Stopping, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday signage on the north side of Riverstone Drive for the length of the school property; and, b) Implement No Stopping, 8:00a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, Buses Excepted signage for the south side of Riverstone Drive from Palmvalley Drive to the westerly entrance to the school property; and, c) Implement corner restrictions on both sides of the entrance and exit driveways; and, 2014 06 05 Page 12 of 15

That the Manager of Maintenance Services, Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board be requested to consider placing a sign indicating that cars entering the school turn right into the Kiss and Ride area with No Left Turn, Buses Excepted and placing a sign or use pavement painting for No Stopping in the through lane. Eldorado Public School 25 Wardsville Drive Ward 6 New School Follow-up Site Inspection Tuesday, May 20, 2014 Committee consideration of this matter included: Review of the observations and recommendations in the subject site inspection report Clerical correction noted in Recommendation # 4. Recommendation # 4 be amended to state the following: That the Manager of Maintenance Services, Peel District School Board be requested to consider identifying a bus lane at the front of the school. SC083-2014 1. That the site inspection report dated May 20, 2014, to the Brampton School Traffic Safety Council Meeting of June 5, 2014, re: Eldorado Public School 25 Wardsville Drive Ward 6, be received as amended; and 2. That the Manager of Traffic Engineering Services, Planning and Infrastructure Services be requested to arrange for the following: a) Install No Stopping, Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. signage on the opposite side of the school on Wardsville Drive and Financial Drive; and, b) Install corner restrictions signs at the entrance and exits from the school; and, 3. That the Manager of Traffic Engineering Services, Planning and Infrastructure Services be requested to consider installing a No U- turn sign at the traffic lights; and, 2014 06 05 Page 13 of 15

Beryl Ford Public School 45 Ironshield Drive Ward 10 Note: Pursuant to Recommendation SC068-2012, approved by Council on October 24, 2012, and subsequent discussions, a follow-up site inspection is to be undertaken after changes have been made to the Kiss and Ride configuration. Committee considered the timelines for a follow-up site inspection at this school location. It was determined that a site inspection would not be scheduled at this time and will be considered in the Fall of 2014. L 2. Sacred Heart Catholic Elementary School 24 Kerwood Place Ward 2 Note: Pursuant to Recommendation SC056-2014, approved by Council on May 21, 2014, and subsequent discussions, a follow-up site inspection is to be undertaken in September 2014. Committee considered the timelines for a follow-up site inspection at this school location. Crossing Guard Appreciation Day Violet Skirten, Crossing Guard Supervisor, Planning and Infrastructure Services advised the Committee that Crossing Guard Appreciation Day will be held on Thursday June 19, 2014 at The Garden Banquet and Convention Centre in Brampton. Ms. Skirten noted that schools have been contacted regarding the event. N 2. Announcement from Mike Parks, Director, Road Maintenance and Operations, Planning and Infrastructure Services, re: Staff Representation on the Committee. Mike Parks, Director, Roads Maintenance and Operations, Planning and Infrastructure Services announced that he has been appointed as Director of Road Maintenance and Operation. Until his position is filled Nelson Cadete will be the interim Manager of Traffic Engineering Services. Mr. Parks introduced Mr. Cadete to the Committee and wished the Committee all the best.
