Port Stockton Sayings-Bulletin The monthly bulletin of Port Stockton Branch 46 of Sons In Retirement, a California non-profit corporation chartered July 23, 1974. NEXT MEETING, AUGUST 21, 2014 Thursday at 12 noon BIG SIR COMMENTS AUGUST 2014 Election time is here. We will be electing new officers for our Branch 46 at the August 21 luncheon meeting. There are a number of officer vacancies that are available. Consider stepping up and offering to accept a nomination. You always get more out of something that you put a little into. Contact Ron Korock, Matt Gaffney, or John Pulver if you are interested. Our Guest Speaker for August will be the Director for the San Joaquin County Fair. This should be an interesting subject considering the difficulties with costs for both the Fair and Asparagus Festival. Maybe a combining of the two? With all the travel opportunities available, on the open market, it is all but impossible for Dave Derksen, Travel Coordinator to come up with a trip at a competitive price that would attract enough interest from the membership to make it feasible. Dave has researched a number of these trips and feels these trips provided by local travel companies are a good value. If anyone has suggestions for trips please give Dave a call. We have lost a number of members to Branch 164, Manteca. I wish those individuals the best and understand the desire to being a member of SIR at a location closer to home. With that said I would like everyone to bring a friend to lunch and invite them to join you in SIR Branch 46. The best to you and cheers. Big SIR, Pete Lepisto SPEAKER FOR AUGUST Little Sir Bruce Fernandes reports that the August speaker will be Kelly Olds, Director of the San Joaquin County Fair. Lately, the fair has been a hot topic in the news. Kelly will tell us about changes to the fair and plans for the future. Come and be prepared for an informative presentation and get your questions answered on this subject.

ATTENDANCE RULE 100 Editor s note: Because of the extreme importance of Rule 100, we are repeating last month s write up on this issue. Attendance at monthly meetings is required by SIR Bylaw Article 8, Rule 100: Any member who fails to meet Rule 100 conditions may be notified in writing of his pending termination of membership when: 1. A member does not attend three consecutive monthly luncheon meetings. 2. A member misses five luncheon meetings in a twelve month period. From the Branch Well, we don't want to kick anyone out, but members need to be aware that the most important SIR activity is not bowling, bridge, golf, or travel, but rather attendance at the monthly luncheon meetings. There are no dues for belonging to SIRs, but the organization does have expenses which are met by the voluntary contributions to the bucket at the monthly meeting. If you are not attending, you are probably not contributing to the bucket, which means that those who do attend are subsidizing your membership. What you can do: 1. Attend the monthly luncheon meeting regularly. 2. If you find that you will miss a meeting, call the Attendance Chair, Lee Talbott (473-4159) prior to the meeting date. 3. Send in a contribution to the bucket brigade when you miss a meeting. Or double your donation at the next meeting.
