1 Port Stockton Sayings-Bulletin The monthly bulletin of Port Stockton Branch 46 of Sons In Retirement, a California non-profit corporation chartered July 23, NEXT MEETING: OCTOBER 15, THURSDAY at 12 Noon MENU PER ROBERTO- Grilled Pork Chops, Rice Pilaf and Garden Salad From the Desk of the Big Sir I thought I would provide a photo of myself that you can show to a potential new member. This is me signing some important documents. October is Halloween month. That s when the kids put on special costumes for trick and treating. In my younger years I once dressed up as the Green Hornet. I had a black eye mask, and my mother made a nice long green cape out of an old bed sheet. The cape would fly out behind me as I ran down the street chasing bad guys. Only it didn t happen. When I ran, the cape would cling to my back, and it even got tangled up in my legs. Not cool! I don t know how Batman and all those guys did it. Things you must know to get thru October: Astrological Signs-- Libra & Scorpio, Birthstone - Opal. Your calendar has all the important dates, but here s a few that weren t on my calendar: World Vegetarian Day (10/1), National Boss Day, (10/16), and National Nut Day (10/22). And finally there s still another calendar the SIR October Calendar which contains all the important dates for Branch 46. It s a must read, and you can find it further on in this edition. We have a couple of changes in our activity leaders. Lee Talbot is the new contact for 9-hole golf, and Dave Palmer has replaced John Doisy as the coordinator for the Thursday morning, preluncheon bridge group. The new phone numbers and contact information are provided in this bulletin. As we go to press, our current membership is 97 active members up one from last month. I hope all of you at the September luncheon picked up one or two of the recruitment cards on your table. Please put your name on the card, and if you know anyone who might be interested give him your card. Good candidates would be someone at your outside activities such as golf, bridge, or bowling. In fact, anyone who is just sitting around looking bored would be a good target. Remember, if he joins, you get a free lunch. And thanks to Dave Derksen for making up the cards. And finally, don t forget to bring in your Food Bank donations to the October and November luncheons. Bring in at least 3 cans of food, or you can make a cash donation to John Sefried instead. Jack Lamberty, Big Sir NEW IN THIS EDITION Birthdays and Anniversaries September Luncheon Highlights October Speaker Writeup Romeo 5 Photos & Romeo 6 Info Calendar Dates for October Important dates for Branch 46 State Sir Happenings Latest Edition of State Newsletter

If you have a computer and are now receiving your bulletin thru the mail, please consider switching to . Simply contact Jack Lamberty and we ll take care of the rest. Thank you. Remember is in color!! Jack Lamberty JackL68734@aol.com Branch 46 Website The branch website now has photos of Romeo 5 at Bud s. Click on the Photos link. The Travel section contains cruises and trips way into November of There are over 4 pages of travel opportunities which we re not able to put in the Bulletin due to space limitations. The Computer link continues to feature interesting summaries on computer technology written by Bill Bromily of Branch 1. One of the articles in this month s series is about new printers coming out from Epson that have a large reservoir of ink that lasts up to two years and only costs $ Currently, printers are relatively inexpensive since most of the printer companies profits are from the sale of ink cartridges. Consequently, Epson s printers will be fairly expensive. Remember last month when I said that someone from Athens, Greece accessed our website? Well, on August 24, someone from Seongnam, South Korea logged on. Seongnam is an industrial city adjacent to Seoul. We are fast becoming global. If you would like something posted on the website concerning the branch, contact Jack Lamberty ; JackL68734@aol.com

5 State SIR Happenings The latest edition of SIR Happenings has been posted on the State SIR website. Go to This brings up a web page where you can access either the current (Summer) edition of SIR Happenings or previous issues. In fact, if you are reading this on your computer right now, you should be able to access the page just by clicking on the link shown above. If that doesn t work, hold down the ctrl (control) button and then click. President Bob's front page column "The Head Cheer Leader" is about his upbeat outlook on SIR and his positive suggestion on getting involved. He ends with "Be proud to wear the hat, the shirt and in some cases, the SIR cowboy belt buckle." Interesting articles include a Classic Car write up from the SIR Chico branch and another piece from the Santa Cruz branch on a Classic Car Tour. There is also a write up on an Alaskan\ fishing trip by two members of Branch 17 in Santa Rosa. SEPTEMBER LUNCHEON HIGHLIGHTS Speaker Photos by Dale Dunmire New Member Amber Saunders Mary Graham Hall Foundation Children s Shelter Roosevelt Loyd Sponsored by Ron Korock
6 OCTOBER LUNCHEON SPEAKER Kevin Costello is, among other things, Artistic Director of the Stockton Civic Theatre. He was born in Southern California but grew up in San Jose coming to Stockton about 21 years ago. Before arriving in Stockton, he and his wife managed the Educational Theater for Children, giving performances in schools throughout Northern California. He has been very active in area theaters, including the Annunciation Cathedral and the St. Mary's Theater Group at St. Mary's High School. He is highly respected among theater goers as well as his peers in the arts. He has been in his current position for more than 2 & 1/2 years, working to continue the grand tradition that is Stockton Theater. He will speak about his work in Stockton and give us an overview of the theater in general. WANTED!! A Good Home for our Rooster As you know, our bell-ringing rooster was substantially damaged a few months back. Pete Lepisto did a remarkable job in restoring it to the original condition. We re not sure what happened, but we think it was dropped during post-luncheon activities. It never has had a home of its own, and we think future damage can be prevented by storing it in a suitable container. An ideal home would be a suit case so we can easily carry it from storage to the podium and back. If we can t find a suitcase, a cardboard box would work fine. Anything we select must have the minimum dimensions shown. So, if you have an old suitcase lying around that might work, contact Jack Lamberty. Also, a sturdy cardboard box the same size will work fine. Jack Lamberty JackL68734@aol.com
