THE WINDLORE GREETINGS FROM THE BARON AND BARONESS The Annual Tournament of Ymir is upon us. This year, we not only play host to the Kingdom as Atlantia kicks off her tourney season, but we are also graced with foreign visitors. Also, the weather has conspired to allow our cousins and sometimes allies of Black Diamond to have their Investiture at Ymir. Once again, Ymir shall be a wonderful event for Windmasters and for all of Atlantia, and we have every confidence that it will again be a wonder to behold. We ask all that can to help in some way. Give an hour or two, on Friday night to check people in and find their cabins. Give an hour or two on Sunday so that we leave this gorgeous site better than we found it. Give an hour of that precious Saturday, wherever you can - and if nothing else, thank those who are working so very hard to make this event a success. Compete. Give everything the full measure of your devotion. We would be very happy to see a court full of combatants, cold, wet, tired, and hungry, all in their kit and straight from the field - let us show Their Majesties, and Their Highnesses of Meridies, our fiercest fighting and our most beautiful arts. Lastly, be hospitable to not only Their Royal Highnesses of Meridies, but all the visitors to our fair Barony. Offer them a drink, a nibble, and a place out of the sun or wind (or cold, if the Frost Giant makes an appearance). Hospitality is first and foremost about treating others as you would like to be treated, so ponder how you would like to be received as you travel the kingdom this summer. GET TO KNOW YOUR BARONY Lord Alain de la Rochelle And Herrin Emeludt Elisabeth Hänsler Lord Alain de la Rochelle has been an active member of the SCA since he joined in February 1994, while he was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany. During the time that he has been a member of the SCA he also had a successful 27 year career in the United States Army; from which he retired in December 31, 2007 as a First Sergeant. He is now a Harnett County Deputy Sheriff. He has contributed to the SCA with both his activities within the Society; and his volunteer time within his local mundane communities that left a positive outlook on the SCA and/or Medieval Reenactment as a whole. He has demonstrated time and time again his ability/ excellence as an Equestrian Marshall, extensive knowledge and skill in the equestrian activities and a talent/ability to train others in equestrian activities. He currently serves the Barony as Baronial Equestrian Champion. Lord Alain consistently has shown his self-less service, honor, courtesy and chivalry by his very actions. He is a strong force within the Canton of Attillium and the Barony of Windmasters Hill and he has become an informal leader with his Canton that members seek counsel from on various matters. Each month we will highlight a member of the Barony in the Windlore. This will give us all a chance to get to know each other better, and assist newcomers in identifying who s who and what do they do. If you would be willing to be a highlighted Windy Kitty, please send an email to the Chronicler don t be shy, we want to know about YOU!
Lord Alain is a strong and supportive force in the Kingdom of Atlantia s equestrian community. He hosts open barns 2-4 times a month, he assists new riders with attaining/ producing the proper armor/safety equipment, and he has designed a new lance for jousting and has produced these lances for several of the jousters within the Kingdom of Atlantia. Alain encourages all equestrians to pursue aspects of the SCA in addition to equestrian activities, to volunteer for offices within the SCA, to volunteer and assist the Autocrat at events, to always remain courteous and chivalrous, to take pride in your garb and field presence and most of all to have fun in the SCA while enjoying the friendship it brings your way. In 2005 Elisabeth (as well as Konrad and Otto) was re-introduced to the SCA by a coworker. After several months she attended her first meeting with the Canton of Attillium. Herrin Elisabeth assisted with her first demo with the Canton at the 2005 Raeford Turkey Festival. Her first event was at the Celtic Cattle Raids in 2005. The event was a very positive experience... and I had great fun with my Canton by helping out with the Leaky Udder Tavern that we sponsored/ran at the event for a Canton fundraiser. I haven t looked back since. Her time in the military limited her ability to participate during 2006-2007. She was stationed in Korea and then came back to the Fort Bragg, NC area. Herrin Elisabeth left the military in 2007 and once she became settled in her life as a civilian she was able to participate a bit more in the SCA. She currently serves her Canton as Exchequer. She also holds the Office of Kingdom Chancellor of Youth Activities and the Baronial Chancellor Minor. Herrin Elisabeth has written an article which has been published in the Windlore, and has compiled a coloring book for Children in the SCA that is being used throughout the Kingdom. In the mundane world, she is a paralegal for a small law firm in Angier, NC. Otto and Konrad Windmeister Hügel Two other very important members of the family are Otto and Konrad Windmeister Hügel. The boys are both very involved in the SCA and well-known for their service and courtesy already, even at their young ages. Otto likes having fun, making friends and sharing tons of hugs and smiles with his "pretty, pretty princesses." Konrad has already earned recognition for his service to the Kingdom having received a Ponte Alto Bead at the Tournament of the Lily. He has assisted with Attillium's Demo at the Fayetteville Christmas Rotary Parade (2009), served Head-Table at Feast (Tournament of the Lily 2009), assisted with Parking (Tournament of the Lily 2009), served at Feast (Fall Crown Tournament 2009), been a Waterbearer (WOW IV), assisted with the Children's Fete (Pennsic 38), was the Baronial Standard Bearer at Baronial Champions Tourney (Pennsic 38), served at the Baroness' Tea (Windmasters' Hill, Pennsic 38), assisted the Baroness at Opening Ceremonies (Pennsic 38), serving at Feast (The Great Tournament of Friends 2009), Waterbearer (MATO I), and serving at Feast (Sacred Stone Baronial Birthday 2008).
