2 deeside gliding c lu b newsletter September 1974 There was a committee meeting on Sunday 8th September. OPen Day_ It was agreed that the fund raising committee had the matter in hand. Although low cloud prevented all but the model 'aircraft from flying, about 600 was grossed over the two days, It was agreed to hold two open days in (5th & 6th April and in the Autumn.: 30th & 3lst August) Mid week flying_ Alan Middleton asked to be permitted to operate in the same way in This was agreed with the following alteration. All gliders not normally based at the club shall be regarded a s "visitors" and be liable to pay Alan Middleton a fee for providi ng mid week flying. (currently 6 per glider per week.) (more than six months in any twelve to be regarded as "based at ".) Full members of Deeside still have priority. over visitors on the use of D.G.C. aircraft at all times. This means that "visi tors" who are also full Deeside members can if they wish claim priority in the use of Deeside aircraft midweek, and join in the normal week end flying list, the same as our Swallow or Olympia for example. Visitors who are not full Deeside G.C. members fly at the weekend only at the discretionof the duty instructor. i.e. they may slot into any available tows between normal club flights, but should not hold up normal weekend club flying. (Still with me? I think the foregoing is correct. )

3 Courses Training courses were arranged for 7th-llth April 1975 (1) and 30th June-25th July 1975 (4). Maximum 8 on one course. Arrange your own accommodation. Just pay for flying done. i.e. not fixed price course. Huts We have been offered 2 large wooden huts suitable for a workshop and clubhouse. Permission from Sandy Greenlaw, the Estate and Local Authority is being sought. Vroom Vroom As that tarry line down the middle of the field is expected to attract powered aircraft, we( at the request of H.M.Custorns &Excise) are to log such flights. A GREEN log sheet has been provided for the purpose. Keep one on the board under the Yellow gliding logs, Parachutes Capstan chutes are Alan is looking into renewal/repair costs. At a Stroke The Committee decided to drop the cost of caravan coffee from 5p to 4p. Quality will be maintained. Glider As the list of solo pilots in the club gets longer, pressure is on to get another solo glider. Committee is thinking of Skylark 2 or similar, which could be resold later to buy a hotter ship. (latest idea K6cr New Members David Gold, from Kittybrewster. Graeme Mowat, from Udny Alan Fettes, from. New Canteen The end of the caravan has been remodelled and the sink and cooker moved into the shop COMPETITION WEEK. We are to run another competition week first week in August Both weekends included. As this year, national LadderRules and entries are invited from Clubs getting this newsletter.(angus, cairngorm, fulmar, Highl and.) DrawThe One in One Hundred Draw was won by Kev,Kieley, Forres. RAFGSA member ar Fulmar Club. The draw took place at the Cheese and Wine after the Open Day. Cover shows Hugh Thompson landing on his first solo in gliders.

4 Open Day I would like to take this opportunity to thank all members and wives who helped to make the open Day a success. Despite the weather (only the clay pigeons flew) we grossed almost 600 which will give a net figure of around 300 The car park brought in 140 and the rest came from the Clay Pigeon, side shows and catering - a truly splendid effort from all. If the weather had been kind to us and the Flying Programme had taken place then I am sure we could have doubled our takings. With this in mind we shall endeavour to hold two OPen Weekends next year. I would also like to record our appreciation to the aero-modellers who left the club and public enthralled by their display. Ian Jamieson (Chairman) Runway Fund Account stands at 1,238.
