Start 10:00 NT Annie Watt BE SUITABLY EQUIPPED Conditions on walks can vary with the terrain and the weather, which is often unpredictable. In a few minutes rain can turn a firm path into a quagmire and, when walking on a hilltop a pleasant summer breeze can become an icy wind. Please be prepared. It is recommended that all participants on organised walks wear stout footwear, preferably walking boots, and carry a rucksack. Carry waterproof and warm clothing (don't wear jeans), sufficient food and drink for your walk, map of area, compass, whistle, first aid and, in winter, a torch. In remote or rugged areas a survival bag or blanket should also be carried, we hope you will never need to use it but it is reassuring to know it is there. Most outdoor shops sell them for a couple of pounds and they weigh very little. THE COUNTRYSIDE CODE Which all ramblers should observe: Respect - Protect - Enjoy a.. Be safe - plan ahead and follow any signs. b.. Leave gates and property as you find them. c.. Protect plants and animals, and take your litter home. d.. Keep your dog under close control. e.. Consider other people.

Comfortable shoes or trainers can be worn. Assistance may be needed to push wheelchairs on some sections: please enquire. Easy Walks for anyone who does not have a mobility difficulty or a specific health problem or is seriously unfit. Suitable for pushchairs if they can be lifted over occasional obstructions. Comfortable shoes or trainers can be worn. Leisurely Walks for reasonably fit people with at least a little country walking experience. May include unsurfaced rural paths. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are recommended. erate Walks for people with country walking experience and a good level of fitness. May include some steep paths and open country, and may be at a brisk pace. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are essential. Strenuous Walks for experienced country walkers with an above average fitness level. May include hills and rough country, and may be at a brisk pace. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are essential. People in doubt about their fitness are advised to contact the organiser or leader in advance. Technical Walks for experienced and very fit walkers with additional technical skills. May require scrambling and use of ropes, ice axes and crampons. You must contact the organiser or leader in advance for further details. Important. Grades are provided as a general guide only: if you have any doubt about your fitness for a particular walk please contact the organiser or leader in advance. You should also bear in mind the distance of the walk, regional differences in terrain and the possibility of bad weather, which can make a walk more difficult than planned. If you're unsure of your fitness level, try a short and easy walk first: it's much better to find a walk a little too slow and easy than to make yourself miserable and exhausted. Leaders may refuse to accept participants who in their opinion are inadequately equipped or unfit. Some of our volunteers use their own local grading systems: if this isn't explained in the walk description, contact the organiser or leader for details.

The Tyneside Group will be delighted to welcome new walkers at any or all of its four sub-groups. Every week, on Sundays and Wednesdays, there are organised walks based on coach transport. It s best to book in advance to ensure a seat because it is not unknown for the coaches to be full. Payment is usually made a week in advance but, for those making a late booking, there are arrangements for payment on the coach. New walkers with us should contact the relevant Coach Organiser by telephone in the first instance. Details are shown in the following pages. Coach Organisers will happily advise you about administrative arrangements concerning advance bookings and cancellations. There is a choice of several walks on each outing. These usually start from different points en route but converge to meet the coaches for the return journey. Walks invariably end at a pub for refreshments and socialising. The return times given are from the departure point, not the arrival in Newcastle. For safety reasons, walkers must stay with the organised ramble that they have chosen. There is also a variety of Social Activities to join in. Non-members are welcome. Holiday Weeks Holiday: Saturday13-20th September Hotel Victoria, 2 Kings Road, Great Yarmouth. NR30 3JW A deposit of 50 per head is required along with a stamped addressed envelope sent to Ken Walker, 10 Brandon Close, Winlaton, Blaydon on Tyne, NE21 6PN. Cheques made payable to K. Walker or S. Wade. Check with Ken Walker (Tel ) for availability of places. This holiday is organised by and the walks led by members of Tyneside Group, but it is not a Tyneside Group activity. It is open to any members of any group. Tyneside Group AGM Thursday, 20th February 2014 at Brunswick Methodist Church Hall Meeting starts at 1:30. Registration from 1:00 All proposals and nominations for the Committee to be sent to the Secretary by the end of December 2013
