(In a box) Sunday 10th June 11.00am 4.00pm WESTERN HEIGHTS OPEN DAY AND COUNTRY FAIR The White Cliffs Countryside Project and Western Heights Preservation Society bring you the 8th annual Western Heights Open Weekend, which is a festival to celebrate the rich history, wildlife and landscape of the Western Heights Local Nature Reserve and fortifications. There will be a range of activities for all the family to enjoy with stalls including displays from Crabble Corn Mill and Dover Transport Museum. All events are based at the Grand Shaft Barracks site, bottom of Drop Redoubt Road, Western Heights Dover (TR ). Car parking is at St. Martin s Battery car park, or walk to the site following the signs from the town or use the Grand Shaft staircase (Snargate Street) (admission free). There will also be a free open top bus service running from the seafront, Market Square, Drop Redoubt Road, St Martin s Battery car park and the bottom of the Grand Shaft. In collaboration with Dover Pride, art/architecture interventions & displays on sustainable architecture in rural and urban locations will be presented at St Margaret's Museum & the National Trust's Visitor Centre at Langdon Cliffs. The museum is open 3pm to 5pm weekdays, and 12noon to 5pm at weekends. On 22nd June, a free public event will explore sustainable initiatives, Followed by a clifftop walk to the Visitor Centre for a presentation by Dover Pride on urban regeneration. 5 RAGWORT DIGGING, NEW ROMNEY WARREN (SSSI) This plant has been dug and pulled by volunteers at New Romney Warren for eight years now at this important Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The last three years has seen a big reduction of the plant, but we want to keep on top of the situation. Friday 22nd June * SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE The St Margaret s Bay Trust is organising an event entitled Sustainable architecture and regeneration in Dover District The displays are about art and sustainable carbon neutral architecture in both the countryside and town. The displays will be exhibited at St Margaret's Museum and at the National Trust's Visitor Centre at Langdon Cliffs. The museum is open 3pm to 5pm. A public event will explore opportunities for sustainable initiatives, followed by a clifftop walk leaving Pines Garden at 5.00pm to the White Cliffs Visitor Centre for a presentation. Emptying of the traps will take about an hour. For keen moth enthusiasts this event will continue until midnight. Free BBQ. Please bring your own non-alcoholic drink. Donation appreciated. DURATION: 2 hours. No dogs. Sunday 24th June 10.00am CYCLE RIDE: CYCLEFIT 2007 Cycle a stretch of the National Cycle Route 2 from New Romney in a short, circular route around the Romney Marsh. No need to book. There will be a stop at Lathe Barn tea rooms before arriving back in New Romney. Back up will be in the expert hands of Romney Cycles (77 High Street, New Romney ). As usual there will be a FREE T-SHIRT, plus FREE tea and coffee at Lathe Barn tea rooms. We will start at both of these places with a leader so join in the fun and don t worry, there will be transport back to New Romney if you get tired. Remember to bring a snack to keep those energy levels up on the way round ). Just turn up in good time and with your bike in reasonable condition, as well as yourself! Saturday 30 th June 9.30am MEET THE MOTHS (Please book) Moths are far from being the small brown creatures of popular (mis)conception, many moths are brightly coloured gems of the insect world. This event is aimed at novice moth ers so don t be shy, come along and discover a whole new world of carpets, pugs, hawks, footmen and perhaps even a tiger! Free admission but booking essential. JULY 2007 Sunday 1st July CYCLE RIDE: BIG WHEEL OF KENT On the Sunday before the Tour de France comes to Canterbury, there will be a selection of rides from 3 miles to 100 miles long. Four of them are circular rides starting from Canterbury and the others are one-way rides starting from various points around Kent and converging on Canterbury. The shortest ride will be a 'Tour de Canterbury' for small children (accompanied by an adult) and adapted (disabled) cycles. This is a festival of cycling centred on Canterbury to celebrate the arrival, a week later, of the Tour de France. CHARGE: 5 including light food and soft drinks at the end). Ride for your own charity or just for fun.
