Lewis) Little Lea was the Lewis family home from 905 until 930. It was here that Lewis first took to writing as a hobby in his childhood because of a disability in his thumbs, which meant he could not make things with his hands. He claimed that someone could do more with a castle in a story than with any cardboard castle that ever stood on a nursery table. Few have proved him wrong. *The house is now a private residence. 9 Campbell College (C.S. Lewis) Campbell College was founded, according to Lewis, for the express purpose of giving Ulster boys all the advantages of a public school education without the trouble of crossing the Irish Sea. Lewis boarded here for half a term in the autumn of 90 and, among the chief impressions of his time there, were fond memories of his influential English master, Lewis Alden. Halfway through the term, he fell ill, and was withdrawn from the school. Metro: 4, 20, 20A Stop: Cabin Hill Journey Time: 5-20 min Belmont Church (C.S. Lewis centenary sculpture by Northern Irish artist Ross Wilson is an inspired creation based on the character of Digory Kirke, who, in the Narnia story, The Magician s Nephew, features a wardrobe made from a beautiful apple tree which has special properties. It is through this magical wardrobe that the Pevensie children, Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy, enter Narnia and meet the talking animals and mythological creatures that populate that snowbound world. Modelled on C.S. Lewis as he was in 99, the sculpture seeks in the words of the artist, to capture the great ideas of sacrifice, redemption, victory, and freedom for the sons of Adam and the daughters of Eve that lie at the heart of the Chronicles of Narnia. 26 Metro: 3, 20, 20A Stop: Connswater Journey Time: 5 min 7
