Summer 2016 Newsletter
A Word from Anna Tenants have continued with their fundraising efforts on behalf of Chester Link. They have attended a couple of events in Chester and have sold greetings cards and raised the profile of the charity and its activities. Ian has grown and sold plants from his greenhouse, this was so successful that he sold out before we had the opportunity to advertise his plants for sale! Diane has continued to walk Izzy every week, she has shown real commitment to her role as chief dog walker. Ian and Pete are training hard for their charity bike ride, we wish them all the best for this. Tenants have chosen to spend some of the funds raised to improve their outdoor seating. They have chosen additional tables, chairs and parasols for the garden, and waterproof covers for when the usual British summer weather does its worst! We have ordered some specialist cookery books where the recipes are measured out using coloured cups. This means that tenants will be able to cook more independently as most tenants find weighing scales difficult to use. We are also planning to pay for a minibus for a day out, to reduce the cost for tenants. I hope you enjoy the newsletter. Many thanks to Lesley who has put so much time into the newsletter, as always. This is the first edition since Fran, her co-editor, retired and I am sure she is missing Fran s helping hands. Best wishes, Anna 1
Alison I have been going to Slimming World. I have been doing very well. I have lost ½ a stone. I like going to Slimming World on Tuesday. I am going on holiday soon. I am going to Butlins in Skegness with Chrysalis holidays on a coach. I am staying in a hotel. I will be doing arts and craft, bowling, swimming and lots of other things. I have been to Butlins before. I like getting a cooked breakfast. I will go to the pub for a drink and I will go shopping on my holiday. I am starting to learn some Makaton sign language. I think this will be fun. I already know the signs for house, food and toilet. A lady is coming to meet with me and Ben to help me learn more. This is the sign for house. 2
Adam Making Scones Adam makes some scones for his mum. 3

We did different things everyday like trips out and days on the boats. I helped Karen with her work and had lots of meals and drinks out. The day of the picture, Karen and I were going to meet Karen s friend to have afternoon tea. My next holiday with John John, Helen, Kathy and I are going to Scarborough this summer. We are going to go on a bus and go sightseeing. There is a castle nearby I would like to go and see. John and I will take turns deciding what we do every day. Karen is coming on a train; we will meet Karen at the station. 5
Graham s Trip to Derby I went to Derby in May with Elaine. I visited Nottingham on the train and saw the cathedral. We also went on a tram. I went to the Standing Order Pub for my tea in Derby and there was a happy hour. We had a good time but the Premier Inn was too far away from the town center. I am going on holiday with Pete to Nottingham in October. I am going to visit the statue of Robin Hood and I am going on the train to Mansfield. The Premier Inn hotel is right in the middle of Nottingham. I am also going to go on the tram in Nottingham. 6

I went with Julia, Kathy and Kay. We went to see the big birds of prey show and we went out for lots of meals. We went on a boat ride and saw lots of swans. We walked up to see the castle and we saw inside the castle house. 8

I would like to go back to Stratford- upon- Avon again sometime. 10
Graham s Favourite Coffee Shop Graham says he likes to meet his staff at Chester station on a Tuesday for his 1to1 and have a coffee with them before they go out for the day. The Caledonian Train I am thinking of going on the Caledonian sleeper train next year from London to Inverness. You can have your breakfast on the train and a glass of beer. I am looking forward to it. The seats look comfortable. 11
Anne s Holiday to Blackpool I went on holiday to Blackpool with Angie. On my holiday I went out to the pub for dinner, in the evening I went out dancing and we went to lots of café s for coke and crisps. Whilst we were shopping, I got my mum a nice cup with owls on it as a present. We went up Blackpool tower and could see very far. We were lucky and had nice weather. Anne s Summer News It was my birthday a few weeks ago and I had a lovely time. I went out for a nice meal with my mum and got lots of presents and cards. I have also got a new music centre in my bedroom so I can play and listen to all of my favourite CD s. 12
Sian s New Nephew This is my new baby nephew called Arran. I went with my mum and dad to meet him in Scotland. When we were in Scotland we all went out for lunch together. Sian s Holiday to Durham I went on holiday for a week to Durham with Chrysalis. We went to visit a castle and looked round a museum about how people lived in the olden days. We all went shopping and I got some chocolate. I enjoyed the holiday. 13
Ian s 50 Mile Sponsored Bike Ride On the Sunday 3rd July, Peter and I are doing the Chester to Liverpool bike ride to help raise money for Chester Link. We will be doing the Chester Challenge ride which is 50 miles, it starts at the Countess of Chester Hospital and we will ride through Bridge Trafford, Helsby, Frodsham, Alvanley and Delamere Forest before returning to The Countess. We have set up a fundraising page on Just Giving and we are also taking cash sponsorships, we hope to raise money to fund activities for the Chester Link Tenants. Peter and I have been training every Friday for the past couple of months to get ready for the ride and I have bought a new bike. We have had special Chester Link shirts made up for the ride. 14
My Week At Centreparcs -by Dan In March I went to Centreparcs with Paul, Mike and Lisa. Mike drove us there. We stayed in a woodland lodge, it was lovely. We had a day out in Penrith and walked around the shops, it was really sunny! 15
We spent one of the days in the pool, I enjoyed the wave machine and the Jacuzzi the most, it was really relaxing. On the last night we went out to Huck's Diner for tea. I had burger and chips. It was lovely. I am really looking forward to going away with Paul, Mike and Lisa again in October. This time we will be going to Majorca! 16
Adam s Trip to Edinburgh HM Britannia Bus Tour 17
Fiona I went to the Tip Top Theatre to see GAGA, they sang Queen songs and I sang along to Radio Gaga. I enjoyed it. I m really looking forward to my holiday in Scarborough, I m staying in a nice house with sea views, I hope it s warm enough to swim in the sea! I saw the film Alice through the Looking Glass. I thought it was all brilliant 18
John s Bread Making Session Mary from Wesley asked if I could come to a Bread Making session to volunteer in helping children from Upton High school learn how to make bread. I liked helping out with them, we had a great time, all of them were very happy, and they were throwing the flour in the air!!! 19

Chairman s Chat In my Chairman s words I always like to outline some of the company s achievements in providing our services to tenants. Since my last news review Chester Link has had two successful independent reviews of our services. The first from the Care Quality Commission who rated us as good across all of the five service domain areas and secondly from Investors in People who reaccredited the company after their visit in May. I would personally like to thanks all our tenants, families, staff teams and most of all Anna, Cate and Judy for the professional input which made the outcomes so successful. On a positive note as well it s a very big thank you from the Trustees to all who are supporting our fundraising work and there is a separate section in the summer newsletter on our various work streams. Finally, I hope you all enjoy this summer edition and hopefully a long hot summer. Roger 22
