Initiated 1 October Harold Edward Johnson was Baptized by Rev. Martin Paulson Domersnaes. His sponsors were; T. J. Ellestad & Kari Ellestad, Ole Flatjord, Miss Martha Nelson. Around the time of the birth of Harold Edward Johnson, the city of New Hampton had a population of approximately 2,300 persons. The Johnson family home was located on the southwest corner of Main and Maple Streets, just two blocks west of the High School. The Chicago Great Western Railroad, where Harold was first employed as a Trackman, was about ten blocks east of the Johnson home. On 22 June 1915, Harold was admitted to the Mayo Clinic, where his tubercular glands were removed from his neck. The cost of the surgery was $110.00, paid to Drs. Mayo, Graham, Plummer and Judd. He returned treatment approximately every six months until at least Over the course of his treatment, the cost amounted to over $1,000.00, which was a lot of money at that time. The 16 January 1920 Census, enumerated Harold living at home with parents, age 20, unemployed. His High School Graduation Ceremony on 3 June 1921, was held in the Firemans Theater; M.E. Geiser was the speaker. In June 1915, Harold was employed as a Trackman for the Chicago Great Western RailRoad Company. In July 1917 he was promoted to the Telegraph and Signal Department on the Olwein to St. Paul Division. In October 1923, Harold was employed as a Lineman for the Illinois Central RailRoad on the Chicago Division. In February 1925, Harold was employed as a Signalman for the Pennsylvania RailRoad, a position that he held until his retirement in September In July 1947, Harold was admitted to the Mayo Clinic with recurrent duodenal ulcer and a low grade cancer of the lower lip. He returned to the Mayo Clinic for the final time in 1970, when he was diagnosed with carcinoma of the lung. JOHNSON, 70, of 428 Islington St., died today in Cherry Hill Nursing Home after a one-month illness. A native of New Hampton, Ia.,Mr. Johnson lived in Toledo 23 years. He was a signalman for the Pennsylvania Railroad 42 years, retiring five years ago. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen. Surviving are his wife, Hazel, son James, of Springfield, Va., stepdaughters, Mrs. Marjorie Boggs, of Bridgewater, Mass., Mrs. Edith Higgins, of Lancaster, Calif, and Mrs. Helen Buckles, of Dayton; sister, Mildred Johnson, of New Hampton, and 11 grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a. m. Thursday in the Ansberg-West Mortuary, with burial in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. The body will be in the mortuary after 2 p. m. Wednsday. General Notes (Wife)!RESIDENCE:
