Mrs MARR was the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs J FOLLETT. She was married in 1874 to Mr M MARR and for the greater part of her life 88 years lived in Marton. Mr and Mrs J FOLLETT were among the first settlers who set foot in Marton purchasing a section of land from Mr R SIGNAL who originally owned the land where Marton now stands. They had a family of 4 boys and 3 girls Messrs James, John Charles and William FOLLETT and Mrs M.A. MARR Mrs E. PARKINSON and Mrs E.H.HUMPHREY 2
3 Follett Street is named after the family and the old homestead in which they lived is still in existence at the east end of lower Follett Street. The late Mrs MARR is survived by her husband Michael MARR who is in his 94th year. Three daughters Mrs K WOODHAM Palmerston North, Mrs F POWELL Hunterville, Mrs O ALEL Auckland and two sons Messrs Sydney Claude Lewis MARR Messrs Wilfred Follett MARR Marton. There are 31 grandchildren and 27 great grand children A private burial took place at Mt. View Cemetery on Monday afternoon the Rev W RAINE conducted the service at the church and at the graveside. The Pall- Bearers were Messrs D HONORE, D FOLLETT, A DUNCAN, A WAY, E SAYERS, JF MATTHEWS. The wreath included one from the Manawatu Women s Patriotic Committee (knitting and hussifs branch) of which Mrs WOODHAM was an active member.
