2 Dear All! The first task is over. We have a new leader: Tomasz Uzarowski and Sławek Lizoń as The Most Active Pilot. Congratulations! Today, we are going to start the task from the finish of the last one. The first leg is set along the Cordillera Oriental, then we are going to fly over the Magdalena River Valley. Around TP3 you will be visiting the Tatacoa desert the driest region of the Colombia. From the authors of the scenery about this region: It is located just 50 km North of Neiva and covers about 335 sqkm and is the result of the 5750 m Nevado del Huila to the west and the m Cordillera de los Picachos to the east. These two high ranges are shielding this area from almost any rain and are turning this part of the otherwise fertile Rio Magdalena valley into a true desert with cacti, stones and red sand. The TP4 is located over the beautiful windmill farm, on the top of the hills of the eastern part of the Cordillera Central, and from there the finish is just a few kilometres away. We are about to visit the driest regions of the state so you have to prepare for dry conditions. Please, take some water with you ;-). The north wind brings blue thermals, so you have to fly carefully and mind your decisions. But no worries, this is not a very hard task. 3 1 The 1st Day results 17 pilot have flown the first task. 10 of them managed to finish. The mostly used strategy was to fly straight over the task line without searching for ridges. The tricky part was also a final glide where the hills made some problems. The most significant problem with the 1st day was the naming of log files. Only four pilots named them correctly. It was decided to penalise wrong naming and other problems with log files with 5 minutes added to the final result. 7 5 Map 6 Reminders After the race each pilot is obliged to send.igc and.ftr files to: wppcondor@gmail.com. According to the first document, the rules of naming are following: Files should be named according to the following naming scheme: F lyingday CN.xxx, for example for the second flying day, for a pilot with a competitor number KS the files should have names: D2-KS.igc & D2-KS.ftr. There is a maximum start altitude equal to 1600 m AMSL. Cloud flying is prohibited. 6
