6 Fish Federal State organic debris and living organisms, such as fairy shrimp and other invertebrates. Superficially resembles the ricefield tadpole shrimp (Triops longicaudatus). Hypomesus transpacificus Delta smelt Oncorhynchus mykiss Central Valley steelhead ESU FT ST FT ~ Located exclusively in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. They have been found as far upstream as the mouth of the American River on the Sacramento River and Mossdale on the San Joaquin River. They extend downstream as far as San Pablo Bay. Delta smelt are found in brackish water. They usually inhabit salinity ranges of less than two parts per thousand (ppt) and are rarely found at salinities greater than 14 ppt. This species inhabits the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers and their tributaries. Spawns in the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers and their tributaries; now extirpated from most of historical range; the majority of native, natural production occurs in upper Sacramento River tributaries below Red Bluff Diversion Dam, but these populations are nearly extirpated; the American, Feather, and Yuba (and possibly the upper Sacramento and Mokelumne) rivers also have naturally spawning populations, previously recorded (CDFG 2011a). The PSA is outside of the species range. previously recorded (CDFG 2011a). The Jackson Creek Dam at Lake Amador, blocks fish passage to the portion of Jackson Creek in the PSA (ECO:LOGIC 2009). 7 Federal State but these have had substantial hatchery influence and their ancestry is not clearly known; in the San Joaquin River system, current range apparently includes only small populations in the Stanislaus, Tuolumne, and Merced rivers (tributaries) and the mainstem San Joaquin River to its confluence with the Merced River. Oncorhynchus tshawytscha Central Valley Chinook salmon spring-run ESU Oncorhynchus tshawytscha Central Valley Chinook salmon winter-run ESU FT FE ST SE Existing populations spawn in the Sacramento River and its tributaries in California. Historically, this ESU was the dominant run in the Sacramento and San Joaquin river basins, but native populations in the San Joaquin River apparently all have been extirpated. Spawns primarily in the mainstem of the Sacramento River immediately downstream of Keswick Dam and below the historic spawning grounds downstream from Shasta Reservoir; most suitable spawning areas are between the Red Bluff Diversion Dam and Keswick Dam. Migrates through the Sacramento River, Delta, and San Pablo and San Francisco bays to nonbreeding habitat in the Pacific Ocean. Some juveniles rear nonnatally for brief periods in lower reaches of tributaries. Spawn and juveniles rear for 2 to 6 months in the previously recorded (CDFG 2011a). The Jackson Creek Dam at Lake Amador, blocks fish passage to the portion of Jackson Creek in the PSA (ECO:LOGIC 2009). previously recorded (CDFG 2011a). 8 Amphibians Ambystoma californiense California tiger salamander (CTS) Rana aurora draytonii California red-legged frog Federal FT FT State ST CSC Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers and their tributaries (these salmon enter the rivers from July through April and spawn from October through February); oceanic distribution is in waters off coastal California. Typically found in annual grasslands of lower hills and valleys; breeds in temporary and permanent ponds and in streams; uses rodent burrows and other subterranean retreats in surrounding uplands for shelter; appears to be absent in waters containing predatory game fish. The CTS spends most of its lifecycle aestivating underground in adjacent valley oak woodland or grassland habitat, primarily in abandoned rodent burrows. Found in humid forests, woodlands, grasslands, and streamsides with plant cover. Most common in lowlands or foothills. Frequently found in woods adjacent to streams. Breeding habitat is in permanent or late season sources of deep water; lakes, ponds, reservoirs, slow streams, marshes, bogs, and swamps. From sea level to 8,000 feet. Breeds late December to early April. Ranges along the coast from Yes Suitable habitat is not present. previously recorded occurrences are within a five-mile radius of the PSA (CDFG 2011a). There are ponded areas in Jackson Creek that could form potential breeding habitat; however, the prevalence of bullfrogs and other fish predators reduces the potential for occurrence to lower levels (ECO:LOGIC 2009). previously recorded occurrences are within a five-mile radius of Biological Resources Assessment 8 May 2012
9 Rana boylii Foothill yellow-legged frog Spea hammondii Western spadefoot Federal State ~ CSC ~ CSC Mendocino County in northern California south to northern Baja California, and inland through the northern Sacramento Valley into the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, south to Tulare County, and possibly Kern County. Partly shaded, shallow streams and riffles with a rocky substrate in various habitats, with adjacent sunny banks or open woodlands. Breeding season begins mid-march to May. Associated habitat divided between aquatic breeding ponds and upland, non-breeding habitat. During much of the year found in upland grassland, chaparral, and woodland communities. Will travel long distances to ephemeral breeding pools. Breeding typically takes place January - May. Yes the PSA (CDFG 2011a). The wetlands and associated uplands on the PSA are suitable habitat for redlegged frog. This species was observed within Jackson Creek (ECO:LOGIC 2009). Jackson Creek exhibits riffle habitat conducive to FYLF breeding; however, presence of exotic predators limit occurrence potential (ECO:LOGIC 2009). previously recorded (CDFG 2011a). The wetlands and associated uplands on the PSA are suitable habitat for yellow-legged frog. Suitable habitat is not present within the PSA. previously recorded (CDFG 2011a). Biological Resources Assessment 9 May 2012
10 Federal State Reptiles Actinemys marmorata Western pond turtle ~ CSC Permanent or nearly permanent water in various habitats (e.g. ponds, streams, perennial drainages). Requires basking sites particularly in areas vegetated with riparian habitats. The western pond turtle includes two subspecies, the northwestern pond turtle (A. m. marmorata) and the southwestern pond turtle (A. m. pallida). The two subspecies range is interconnected within and around the San Francisco Bay Area. Yes A total of 15 individual adults and juveniles were documented in ponded areas above and below the outfall. (ECO:LOGIC 2009). One individual was observed within the intermittent drainage in the eastern portion of the PSA during the May 2011 surveys. Four previously recorded (CDFG 2011a). Suitable habitat is present within pond, wetlands, and associated upland habitat within the PSA. Thamnophis gigas Giant garter snake Birds FT ST Inhabits freshwater sloughs, marshes, canals, wetlands. Also uses rice fields, drainage canals and irrigation ditches for hunting and overwinters underground in uplands. This species inhabits small mammal burrows and other soil crevices above prevailing flood elevations throughout its winter dormancy period. Suitable habitat is not present within the PSA. previously recorded (CDFG 2011a). The PSA is outside of this species range. Agelaius tricolor MNBMC CSC (Nests are protected) Breeds in freshwater wetlands, with tall dense Cattails are found in small patches in impounded areas Biological Resources Assessment 10 May 2012

Haliaeetus leucocephalus Bald eagle Mammals Antrozous pallidus Pallid bat CODE DESIGNATIONS FD; MNBMC; Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act SE; CFP ~ CSC Federal status ESU = Evolutionary Significant Unit is a distinctive population. Permanent resident, and uncommon winter migrant, now restricted to breeding mostly in Butte, Lake, Lassen, Modoc, Plumas, Shasta, Siskiyou, and Trinity cos. Ocean shore, lake margins, and rivers, both nesting and wintering. Build stick nests within large tall trees and typically within 1 mile of permanent water. Wintering populations along major rivers and reservoirs in Yuba County. Breeds February to July. Pallid bats roost in rock crevices, tree hollows, mines, caves, and a variety of anthropogenic structures, including vacant and occupied buildings and buildings, mines, and natural caves are utilized as roosts. Occurrence is primarily in arid habitats. Colonies are usually small and may contain bats. State status along the creek. Due to their limited size they are not considered breeding habitat for this species (ECO:LOGIC 2009). This species was not observed within the PSA. previously recorded (CDFG 2011a).
