1 PROPOSAL FOR AN ICS TOUR OF ITALY As everybody knows, Italy is an outstanding place to visit, both from the natural and artistic point of view. What is not so widely known is that it lends itself wonderfully to private flying, with a wealth of places where to land and stay, and a very predictable weather. On the negative side, alas, is the fact that Italian bureaucracy is in the way, and a good knowledge of the most common traps is needed to avoid waste of time (and money). Fortunately, if some of the major airfields are unfriendly, there is a multitude of airstrips, where you can find a jolly atmosphere and a warm welcome. Only one warning: careful planning is required, as Avgas is not available everywhere. Here is a profile of what could be done in the most effective way: there are at least three areas worthy of a visit: Northern Italy: South of the Alps lies a large plain, where many interesting cities offer an interesting stay, among historical and artistic highlights. Venice is served by two airfields, Tessera for international flights and the Lido airfield where you can land. The Lido is the old international airport of Venice and today it is being used as a GA airfield, the airfield was restored as it was in the 30s, with its original air terminal.
