2 10-DAY VISIT REPORT SECONDARY SCHOOL OF CATERING AND TOURISM MARIBOR IN FERRARA 8th April We arrived at the hotel in the afternoon, settled in and later on, we had a project meeting. We talked about the project itself, what has been done, what has to be done, the programme... Dinner. 9th April Students went around the city, looked for the Cathedral and the city center, explored the city. They had lunch and then some time to rest. At Mrs Monte came to the hotel and took us to the city center and at the same time explained some things and showed us some interesting sights, where to shop, eat, etc. The coordinators of both schools also had a project meeting to discuss future actions. After the tour around Ferrara, students had some time to walk around the city center. Dinner and short meeting about that and the next day.

3 10th April At 9.00 meeting in front of Cathedral with Mrs Monte who took us to school. Students divided into 4 groups of 5 students and 1 teacher and attended classes. Half of the students went with Mrs Monte to the other location of the school and attended lessons there as well. At we gathered at the main building and had lunch with the principal, vice principal, an English teacher, and a cooking teacher. After lunch an English teacher gave us a tour around the school (kitchens, catering classrooms, ICT classroom, laboratory, gym...) and later she took us to the city center. In the afternoon students had some free time to do sport activities and teachers arranged the train tickets for the next day. 4 11th April After breakfast we headed off to the train station and went on the train for Venice. The ride there took us about an hour and a half. Our stop was St. Lucia.

5 Then we walked to St. Marco Square and from time to time we stopped and looked at some famous sights. Mr Purgaj explained some interesting things along the way and we admired the beautiful canals. After we heard everything about the St. Marco Square and Doge's Palace, we had some free time which was perfect in the beautiful and warm weather. Afterwards some students went back to train station on foot and some took the famous water bus. We caught a late train back to Ferrara and returned in the hotel late in the evening. 12th April After breakfast we went in front of Duomo (cathedral) to meet with some students and teachers for the guided tour around Ferrara. Two students presented some most interesting sights and buildings and we even witnessed an interesting event at the Ferrara castle: Palio, which takes place every year and lasts for a month. During the event there was dancing, acting, playing.

6 After that we went to a park (Parco Massari) where we could buy sandwiches and coffee and have a picnic. After a short rest in the park, we continued our way walking around the ancient city walls and the journey finally brought us home to the hotel. Because it was late in the afternoon, we took a short break and in the evening we met some teachers from I.I.S. Vergani to have pizza together. They took us to a really nice restaurant and we had a great time. Meanwhile our principal and vice principal arrived. 13th April We woke up early in the morning to have breakfast and at 8 a.m. we were at the bus station where the bus for Florence was waiting for us. The drive to Florence took us about 2 hours and at the guide waited for us to show us the city sights (Cathedral, Baptistery, Palazzo Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria, Basilica of Santa Croce, Ponte

7 Vecchio). After the guided tour we had some free time for lunch or walk around the city. We arrived back at 6 p.m. After dinner a short meeting about the next day. 14th April At 7.30 a.m. we went to school's second location where we were expected at In the classroom we had had lessons during which we talked about both cities and countries, the differences and similarities of educational systems and the Mediterranean food pyramid.

8 At we finished our lessons and went to the main building to have lunch. There was also an official meeting of both principals with deputy mayor, people involved in the project, and press. The lunch was really delicious and it finished at 2.30 p.m. After lunch we had a project meeting and then free afternoon to do some sport activities. 15th April After breakfast we went to the train station where the coach waited for us at 9 a.m. We drove for about an hour and arrived at the Delta Po national park. By boat we took a drive on the river and reached an island that is called Love island. After half an hour we continued our way on the river and an English guide told us a lot of interesting information about that area. At 1 p.m. we continued our trip by coach to a very beautiful, small, fishing village Comacchio where we stayed for about 45 minutes.

9 Then we drove by coach to the next town Porto Garibaldi. This is a very popular and touristic seaside resort where many people from Ferrara drive during the summer, weekends... It has got beautiful sandy beaches and many bars that are open during the summer. We had about an hour to walk around the town and enjoy the beautiful weather. We arrived back at the hotel at 6 p.m. 16th April After breakfast we gathered at the hotel lobby and headed for the city centre and the Estense castle which is a medieval castle and one of the major tourist attractions, historical, architectural and artistic heritage of the city. There we had a guided tour in English which was very interesting. After that we went to school to have lunch that was something special. The main course was eel which some of us tasted for the first time. Lunch was followed by the project meeting and then some free time for a rest. At 6 p.m. we gathered and went to the city centre again where we found a nice pizzeria and the whole group ate together. When we got back to the hotel, we had a project meeting about the course of the next (last) day. 17th April Some students (cooks) had to wake up very early in the morning and go to school to prepare everything for the traditional Slovene lunch. They worked hard all morning in the kitchen and meanwhile other students prepared the room for the presentation of Maribor, our school and the

10 traditional menu. At 12 o'clock everything started and after the presentation our lunch was served. It was delicious and everyone liked it. In the afternoon everybody needed some time off and later it was time to visit the city centre for the last time. In the evening we all had a meeting to summarize this last day and to point out some positive as well as negative side, what we learnt and what we want to improve. 18th April Project meeting to summarize the visit in general and to talk about future actions.
