Dublin City University (Glasnevin Campus) is a young university, situated on an 85 acre campus 6km north of the River Liffey in the city centre. Dublin City University (Glasnevin Campus) is located mid way between Dublin city centre and Dublin Airport. The most convenient way to DCU from the Airport is by Taxi, a journey of about 15 minutes (8km). Conference venue: 1

2 Transportation Air Travel to Ireland Ireland, and especially Dublin, is well connected to America and Europe via Dublin International Airport. All major European hubs are less than two hours flying time from Dublin, thereby connecting it conveniently to all continents. For a comprehensive list of airlines and links, including low cost options check the Dublin Airport website Visa requirements Short stay visitors to Ireland from most countries (for example: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, EU, Japan, Mexico and USA) do not require a visa. A visa is required for visitors from some countries. Please check the official website for full details. Application for visitor visas are handled by the Visa Section, Irish Naturalisation & Immigration Service, Department of Justice and Equality, 13/14 Burgh Quay, Dublin 2, Ireland. All visa applications are made on-line at this website You may also wish to consult you local Irish embassy / consular office. If you require a letter of invitation for your visa please contact the conference secretary Mary White at mary.white@nsai.ie providing your full name, date of birth and passport number. An official visa support letter will then be issued to you once you have completed registration Travel from / to the airport in Dublin Dublin airport is located about 14km north of Dublin city centre. Travelling from and to the airport is by public bus, coach or by taxi. There is no train/tram/metro access to the airport. For travel options see the Dublin Airport website The meeting location (DCU) is located 8km south of Dublin Airport. By taxi this is a 15 minute journey and costs approximately 20 euro. The city centre is located 14km south of Dublin Airport. By taxi this is a 30 minute journey and costs approximately 30 euro. Aircoach ( offers services from Dublin Airport to the City Centre on a 24 hours basis each day, with stops at most of the major hotels around the city, with tickets from 7 one way. Dublin Bus run an "Airlink Express" service to and from Busaras (the HQ of the bus network), O'Connell Street (also in the city centre) and the airport. The buses are marked "Airlink" and are number 747 or 757. The fare is 6 one way which can be paid to the driver. The bus stops are located right outside the arrivals main exit, and run every 10 mins during peak hours. See: In addition the Dublin Bus regular bus services numbers 16A, 41, 41B, 41C, 46X, 58X & the 746 all take you from the airport to the city centre and the times are printed on the bus shelters. However, these can stop at all bus stages, so the travel time can be approx. 60 mins. The fare is 2.60 one way and you need to pay the EXACT FARE to the driver no change is given. By taxi this is a 15 minute journey and costs approximately 20 euro. By public transport take Bus numbers 16, 33, 41, 41b or 41c to Collins Avenue Junction. It is a 5 minute walk from Bus stop. By Car If you want to rent a car, you'll find all the major rental companies in the arrivals concourse: Hertz, Budget, Murrays Europcar and National etc. Car Parking is required in the city centre check with your accommodation if they have reserved car parking. Don't forget that we drive on the LEFT hand side of the road in Ireland. Dublin Bikes City Bikes dublinbikes stations are located in the centre of Dublin city. DCU Glavnevin Campus Map It is important to note that DCU is a multi-campus University and the conference venue is the main/oldest campus Glasnevin Campus on Collins Avenue. Also note that there are two other universities in Dublin, which also have the word Dublin in their name (University of Dublin & University College Dublin) so when talking to taxi drivers etc. it is best to refer to DCU Glasnevin The conference will be held in the ground floor of the Nursing building, which is located directly inside the main university entrance, which is on Collins Avenue (see map). 5 General Information about Ireland Currency Ireland uses the Euro ( ), just like most EU countries (except for e.g. the United Kingdom, which uses the British pound). There is a bank and ATM machines are available on the DCU campus. ATM machines are to be found all over the Dublin city, where you can use international cards to withdraw Euro. Exchange of non-euro currency can be done in banks (including on-campus), at the airport and many hotels. Bank hours tend to vary per bank so it is wise to check with your hotel concierge. Hours are generally Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 4.30pm, closed Saturday and Sunday. Electricity supply The standard electricity supply in Ireland is 240 volts. Three pin plugs are used. Visitors from Asia, EU and USA may require a plug adaptor to convert 2-pin plugs to the standard 3-pin plugs. Weather It is difficult to predict the weather it is unlikely that it will be very hot or very cold (but you never can tell!!). You can check to get an idea of current weather conditions (but remember it is often subject to change!) Tipping Tipping should be at your own discretion when the service has been satisfactory. As a guide, it is usual to add up to 10% to bills at restaurants & cafeterias if service charge not included. Not normal to tip in bars unless it s table service. General Information about Dublin Dublin has a wonderful array of venues and activities for your social programme. Dublin is a city that is rivalling Europe s elite for hip appeal. As well as retaining its historical and cultural charms, Dublin offers trendy bars, restaurants, and stylish cosmopolitan hotels. Dublin is an ancient city with one of Europe s youngest population. There s something for everyone in Dublin! What visitors enjoy most about Dublin is Dubliners themselves. And there is nothing Dubliners love more than the sound of their own voices. Luckily they ll love the sound of yours too. So be prepared to make lots of new friends because, the chances are, everyone you meet will want to have a chat. The city has been home to some of the world s literary giants and is now home to some of the biggest and brightest stars. But famous or not, the locals will go out of their way to make you feel welcome. 6 Accommodation Dublin is quite a popular city, so it would be advisable to book as soon as possible to get good rates, particularly if you plan to stay the weekend accommodation can be difficult to get if there is an event on (e.g. sporting event, concert, etc.). Delegates can choose to either stay (1) on campus, (2) local to DCU (Santry, Druncondra or Glasnevin areas) or (3) stay in Dublin city centre. Which location to stay in? The student accommodation is basic in standard. At night/weekends the campus is very quiet and there are very restricted options for sightseeing, dining, etc. The local area to DCU is a quiet residential area. However, access to the university from local by taxi is just 10 minutes (20-30 minutes walking) and you have all the advantages of a modern fully serviced hotel close to the meeting location. Dublin city centre is a very lively district, with many opportunities for sightseeing and eating out, with access to the university is about minutes by taxi (approximately euro), or 30 minutes by public bus ( 2.15).
