2 Verkykerskop Weddings Nestled amongst the table topped sandstone hills of the Klein Drakensberg escarpment lies the small village of Verkykerskop. This hideaway offers peace, tranquillity and privacy for families, friends and corporates alike. A mere two and a half hours drive from either Durban or Johannesburg and 40 km from Harrismith on the R722. The pleasures of country living, farm life and our hospitality will surely see you back. Verkykerskop Village facilities include a Retro style General Dealer, Smiley s Restaurant and Bar, a Postal Agency, Butchery, Liquor Store, Farmers Co-Op, Police Station, Hotel, a handful of guesthouses and camping with ablutions for up to 500 guests. Activities include fishing, bird watching, game drives, mountain trails by bike, foot or horseback. There are plenty of beautiful day trips, such as driving the many mountain passes in the area, Golden Gate National Park, a trip to the famous Sterkfontein Dam or admiring the ancient Bushmen paintings on the sandstone cliffs matt@zippnorth.co.za Matt Beth

3 General Information GETTING TO VERKYKERSKOP Although the GPS will often show a shorter route, especially from Gauteng province, we do advise our guests to follow the map as shown above. Alternate routes often include punctured tyres and the opening and closing of several farm gates. ATMs, CASH & PAYMENTS Although credit card facilities are provided, please ensure you bring adequate cash as our small village does not have ATM facilities. FUEL Both Diesel and Petrol are available from the friendly Farmers Co-Op. However, please be aware of the limited opening times: Monday-Friday 08h00-16h30, Saturday 08h00-11h00, Sunday- closed. PRICES We have attached a separate price list for budgeting purposes. Please note that while we endeavour to provide accurate pricing, some accommodation is provided by third parties, therefore minor variations in prices may occur from time to time. 3

4 Chapel & Venue Hire Included are the following: - Sound and Lighting Equipment (DJ and sound engineer excluded) - Crockery and Cutlery (Enamel plates and steel cutlery in keeping with the farm theme) - Oregon Pine Tables and Chairs - Chapel (indoor or outdoor) sound equipment with cordless microphone - Projector in bar area - Fairy Lights inside main hall and outdoor area - Oregon Pine Wooden Benches for Chapel and Tapas seating - Bar and table clearing staff. - For an additional charge, staff can be provided to assist with setup. - Reasonably priced licensed bar facilities. Bar price list on request. Please note that we can also provide services such as arranging a kid friendly area with a separate menu, entertainment and a babysitter. Our Doily Decor Department has a wide range of table decorations, table cloths, bunting, runners and even props for a fun Photo Booth, please see attached list. Also attached, please find a list of service providers in the area, including hairdressers, DJs, dress makers and owners of vintage cars for the arrival of the bride. 4

7 Wedding Menu The menu may be altered to suit personal preferences. A plated service is available for a nominal extra charge. For prices please see the attached price list. TAPAS served outside overlooking the mountains Meat platters: Assortment of cold and cured meats served with pickles and mustard dip. Cheese platters: A variety of hard and soft cheeses served with preserves and olives. Home baked individual breads and breadsticks with a selection of pates, dips and pesto s. THE TAPAS DRINKS served outside overlooking the mountains Served in individual bottles and tailored to suit your personal theme. i.e. delicious homemade cordial with lemon or mint (non alcoholic) or with vodka or gin. Alternately, a Cosmopolitan, cranberry and strawberry juice with a dash of vodka. Please feel free to discuss a bar tab with us for wine/beer/ciders/tizers and soft drinks to be served. MAIN MEALS served in the Main Hall on a Buffet Line Green Salad, Coleslaw, Roast Vegetable Salad, Bean Salad, Couscous Salad (choose three) Pampoenkoekies, Sweet Caramelized Carrots or Sweet Potatoes (choose one) Boerebeans, Cauliflower and Broccoli bake, Feta Creamed Spinach (choose one) Roast Lamb, Beef or Pork (choose two) Garlic Parsley Baby Potatoes, Cheesy Potato Bake (choose one) Savoury Rice with a Selection of Gravies and Sauces DESSERT Traditional Malva Pudding, Sticky Chocolate Pudding with hot custard (choose one) Or Ice Cream Extravaganza soft serve machine with 2 flavours of your choice, served with sprinkles and sauces SWEETIE TABLE Handmade vintage sweets to fit with the venue: Brandy Balls, Date Balls, Fudge, Peanut Brittle and Coconut Ice served in glass jars and Retro trays alongside traditional shop bought sweets such as Champion Toffies, Old Skool Apricot Sweets and Mini Musk Sweeties. This option can also be used as a gift with small cardboard gift boxes for the guests to take home with them. COFFEE STATION To round off the meal, a coffee station is set up with tea, coffee and hot chocolate 7

8 Verkykerskop village and the surrounding guesthouses provide accommodation for up to 150 guests. For your planning we have included a comprehensive listing of available accommodation together with the relevant floor plans and sleeping arrangements (where available). Upon receipt of payment for the venue all guesthouses will be block-booked for your function. Please note that in order to assure availability of all facilities we require guest list confirmation and full payment 2 weeks prior to the event. In order to assist with organizing this important day, and as a courtesy to our customers, complementary accommodation will be provided for the bridal party. This complimentary service is limited to 6 guests inclusive of the bridal couple and covers accommodation for Wednesday and Thursday but excludes meals and drinks. Normal rates apply from Friday onwards A selection of accommodation options are available in the Verkykerskop area. Some within the village and some a short scenic drive away. For accommodation options please see the included list, for which the rates are also attached. is subject to prior bookings. It is therefore essential to confirm all bookings as early as possible in order to secure sufficient accommodation of your choice. rates include all meals with the exception of the special wedding menu. Children under 4 may stay at no charge provided camp cots are supplied by their parents.
