3 3 (37) 1 GENERAL 1.1 Purpose The Finnish Transport Safety Agency hereby issues the more detailed regulations on compulsory pilotage areas and pilot boarding areas referred to in section 21(3) of the Pilotage Act (940/2003). 1.2 Scope of application This regulation applies to pilotage provided for the assistance of vessels in Finnish waters and in the part of the Saimaa Canal leased by Finland. 1.3 Structure In this regulation the compulsory pilotage areas and pilot boarding areas are grouped according to sea areas as follows: 1) Bay of Bothnia and Kvarken 2) Sea of Bothnia 3) Sea of Åland and Archipelago Sea 4) Gulf of Finland 5) Saimaa waterways. Compulsory pilotage areas are marked on the charts in the ETRS-TM35FIN terrestrial reference system in the order shown on the index chart. The pilot boarding areas are shown in WGS 84 in geographical order from Tornio to Hamina, and in the Saimaa waterways and the Saimaa Canal from south to north. 1.4 Symbols and corresponding terms The following symbols are used: lighthouse pilot boarding area compulsory pilotage area other area 2 PILOT BOARDING AREAS In the present regulation pilot boarding area means a location marked on the chart, in the vicinity of which, subject to weather or ice conditions, the pilot shall board and disembark the vessel.
