You can print this overview, but also download it on your smartphone to use it in conjunction with the guide of the same name (including directions, maps and height profiles). We strive to update this overview regularly. Thereby we gratefully use the comments received. 3 Important Pilgrims' roads to Santiago are generally safe. But of course, it cannot be excluded that something unsafe happens along the way. After all, it can also happen to you at home. Should something along the way in France happen that you experience as nuisance, damage or worse or that you do not want to happen to someone else, please report the same day to the police, the gendarmerie, a town hall ("Mairie"), a tourist office ("Office de Tourisme") or at your overnight address. Try to be as specific as possible (place, time, etc.), preferably - if possible - with photos. Even if you do not speak French well, please report the incident. If you make a report later, and / or through others, it is almost certain that nothing will be done. For emergency services: call 112, also in France. Barking dogs along the route can sometimes also be aggressive. A useful trick from the practice of several pilgrims against this kind of dog, which practically always seemed to work, is: just pretend to pick up a stone from the ground and throw this to the dog. Most dogs in France recognize the throwing gesture and shrink back. Though, being challenged by multiple dogs, this becomes difficult as the dogs often circle you. But generally, the throwing trick always works. In Spain dogs do not always understand this gesture, but there is also less nuisance by dogs. It is also possible to include a special 'dog repeller, which works with an ultrasound that scares dogs. Its weight is between 140 and 180 grams and the price is 30 à 40. The user experience is different. Our advice: try before purchase. Even if it only contributes to the self-conscious appearance of the pilgrim opposite the dog (s), it also helps! Finally, there are various apps for the mobile phone with highly variable user experiences. 3
