I m a great supporter of locally made products, but I also love my imported French cheeses and Italian pastas! I love to broaden our customers culinary and buying habits through travel, and the best way to do that is to take you behind the scenes at the source of our food. We started our tour business, Sickles On The Road, in 2011 with the goal of sharing our passion for fine food and beautiful gardens. Our local tours have been very successful and in 2012 we went on our first international culinary tour to Sicily. What an experience! It was so wonderful and encouraged us to continue creating authentic and inspiring gourmet travel journeys. A seasoned traveler originally from Sydney, Australia, Kirsty organizes all the tours at Sickles Market, a job Kirsty describes as her dream job. Kirsty arrived in the USA in 2009 after running her tour company Buenos Aires Boutique Tours in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her customized tours combined her passion for travel, gardens and photography. Kirsty s tours for foreigners tapped an unmet market in the city and quickly gained international attention. While scoping out an art tour in Buenos Aires, Kirsty met her husband and a year later left for a new home in New Jersey. Looking for new adventures, Kirsty started at Sickles Market, putting her horticultural training to good use in garden retail. But travel is her passion, and while on leave from Sickles, Kirsty led a tour of East Coast Gardens for the Friends of the Sydney Royal Botanic Gardens. The tour was a great success and Kirsty approached Bob with the concept of Sickles Tours. Sickles On The Road was born and the tours have now become an integrated part of the gourmet store, offering customers a way to connect with the food and plants in the store and travel in a very different way. 5 Day 1: Friday June 21 Bienvenue à Paris Day 2: Saturday June 22 Giverny & Versailles A transfer is included to your hotel near Le Jardin des Tuileries. At 3:00 pm at Hôtel Brighton you will meet your tour guides Kirsty Dougherty, Sickles Tour Director and Anne-Sophie Delaunay-Lehman, French Tour & Language Specialist. This afternoon, Anne-Sophie leads you on a walking tour which gives you a wonderful overview of the area. Walk through the Tuileries and visit Musée de l Orangerie and Monet s gigantic water lily masterpieces. Board the Batobus and cruise along the Seine to the Eiffel Tower. Enjoy this iconic site and take a stroll to see Patrick Blanc s famous green wall at the nearby Musée de Quai Branly. Stop for a typical French apéritif at a Parisian café and French lesson on dining out, before visiting the most beautiful avenue in the world the Champs-Elysées. Enjoy welcome cocktails and dinner in Paris together at a neo-brasserie restaurant. Tonight is Paris annual Fête de la Musique and after dinner you take to the streets to explore the music! First we head to Saint Germain and Boulevard Raspail. Here every Sunday is the city s major organic market, Boulevard Raspail. Between Rue du Cherche-Midi and Rue de Rennes, the market is bursting with produce, fish and eco-friendly products it s a favorite with the locals. Pâtisserie Pierre Hermé is your next stop where you ll experience reputedly the world s best macaroons and pastries! Visit other fine food stores of Saint Germain before enjoying the afternoon and evening on your own. For those who are keen to explore more with Sickles, join our afternoon walking tour, visiting Ile Conciergerie, Ste Chapelle and Notre Dame Cathedral. The Luberon is characterized by a series of perched, hilltop villages, dating back 1,000 years or more with famous names like Gordes, Roussillon, Bonnieux, Lacoste and of course, Ménerbes, the charming town made famous by the Peter Mayle A Year in Provence series. Your day is spent exploring this stunning region along winding country roads. Wander through the lavender fields and then enjoy wine & truffles at La Maison de la Truffe et du Vin and discover the importance of black truffles to Provence. Lunch in Ménerbes. A late-afternoon visit to the 12 th century Abbaye de Sénanque and surrounding lavender field at its picturesque best a must for photographers. Built by Lord Egerton at the beginning of the 19th century, the Hôtel Brighton was one of the first hotels in Paris and is very conveniently located next to the prestigious shops of Rue Saint Honoré. Major cultural points of interest including the Louvre Museum, Orsay Museum and the Jeu de Paume Museum are just minutes away.
