In its permanent exhibition, the Moulin des Jésuites describes the first attempt at inland colonization that was not centred on a major waterway. The use of this new system, called the radian system, is one of region s most prized heritage jewels. Instituted by the Jesuits in February 1665, this cadastral form can still be seen in the layout of Charlesbourg s main thoroughfares. 30 Moulin du Petit Pré Interpretation site - History and society Located in Château-Richer on land that once belonged to explorer Louis Jolliet s father along the historic Avenue Royale, known as the New France Route, the Moulin du Petit-Pré was built in 1695 by Bishop François Montmorency de Laval and the Québec Seminary. The first commercial flour mill in North America, it remained in use until the end of the 1950s, at which time the millstones ground to a halt and were eventually dismantled. Thanks to the creation of the Corporation for the Development of the Moulin du Petit-Pré, since 2003 the Beaupré Coast can once again take pride in seeing the mill s waterwheel and grindstones turning. The miller and his wife are happy to meet and chat with visitors as they go about their work, just as they would have done in days gone by. - Guided tours - Café-bistro (crêperie) - Home-made baked goods - Reception room - Patio - Art gallery Gift shop (organic items and crafts) Sales counter Gift shop Restaurant Dining area (indoors) (buses) Restaurant available by reservation Self-guided tours: 20 people Guided tours: 100 people Number of exhibitions: 2-3 Number of sites to visit: 1 Historic site (Quebec) Activities or attractions nearby Market with local fare Vineyard New France Route
