3 Centre d'exposition de Rouyn-Noranda Exhibition centre - Art / History and society - Contemporary Art The Centre d'exposition de Rouyn-Noranda has been a forum for artists from the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region and elsewhere since it was founded. Every year, its two galleries host some fifteen shows. While its main emphasis is on the visual arts, the Centre also presents various thematic exhibitions dealing with art, history, ethnology, science and so on. Educational programs are increasingly popular with the public and more than six workshops are organized each year. 5 Centre d'interprétation de la foresterie Interpretation site - Science and Technology - Industrial Heritage In the heart of the town of La Sarre, proclaimed the forestry capital of Quebec in 1989, is a forestry interpretation centre that opened in that very year. Visitors to the Centre are sure to enjoy reading the informative panels and taking in a replica of a logging camp, a collection of logging tools and a model sawmill. The "City of Gold" is the only Quebec gold mine open to the public. Dressed in miner s coveralls with a helmet and safety lamp, you descend into what was Quebec s most profitable gold mine from 1940 to Once underground, explore the old man-made galleries, watch a simulated blasting operation, and discover the equipment used back then and today. When you resurface, visit the analysis laboratory to learn the steps involved in refining gold. A prime example of our industrial heritage, this is a fascinating world with many treasures to be discovered. The Dumulon house takes you back to the early days of the Abitibi-Témiscamingue and Rouyn-Noranda regions, the capital of copper and a veritable Klondike in the 1920s. 13 Le Dispensaire de la Garde à La Corne - National Historic Site Interpretation site - History and society Located in La Corne, halfway between Amos and Val-d'Or, in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, the Dispensaire de la Garde is a tribute to early local nurses, the nursing profession and the development of health care in Quebec. Take a guided tour of the period building, the only one of its kind in the province, and learn about the history of nursing stations in the colony.
