In-place coal reserves come to million tons. Region development vision The Akmola Region is expected to become one of the leading agricultural regions of Kazakhstan forming a food belt surrounding Astana and actively developing innovation potential in the area of biological technologies and agricultural sector; a region with a competitive processing industry that supports machine-building and production of building materials; a center of mass tourism offering sophisticated services; a region having high level of human development. The Region has the following main types of mineral resources: chromium, oil, associated oil gas, brown coal, nickel, marble, copper ore, chromites, phosphorites, sand-gravel mix, brick clay, gypsum, limestone for lime production. It is the world leader in chromium reserves and is the only region in Kazakhstan where nickel fields are developed. It has about 10% of explored and 30% probable reserves of raw hydrocarbons in Kazakhstan. The Region has over one hundred explored fields of widely spread minerals. Region development The Region is expected to become a center showing sustainable vision growth of quality of life and having favorable business due to development of raw hydrocarbons and minerals, dynamic processing industry with the development of priority sectors of the Region (building industry, chemical industry, machine-building, agricultural processing industry) and development of transport and logistics center on the West of Kazakhstan. The Atyrau Region has significant oil and gas reserves. It is also has rich reserves of different mineral resources, including clay for brick manufacturing (reserves are estimated at 52.7 million tons); potash salt (697 million tons); mortar sand (41.2 million m3); limestone (1.9 million m3); chalk (95.2 million tons); bishofit (50,000 tons); sources of mineral water saturated by sodium dioxide, calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, magnesium sulfate, their reserves come to 898 million m3. The Atyrau Region is expected to become a center of production and deep conversion of raw hydrocarbons, unique biological resources, center of development of high value added building industry, a territory having extended infrastructure and transport corridor on the West of Kazakhstan, favorable business, one of tourist resort areas, a region showing sustainable quality of life growth. There are 69 oil and gas fields known. Oil in place in the regional is 3,156.2 million tons. Total oil reserves come to million tons, gas reserves billion cubic meters, condensate 4.7 million tons. 27 fields out of them are under development. Cumulative oil production is million tons. Major oil fields are Uzen (oil in place is about 1,000 million tons); Zhetybai (about 373 million tons), Karazhanbas, Severo- Buzachinskoe, Kalamkas (over 800 million tons). The regional subsoil is also rich in phosphorite, coal, manganese, different salts, shell rock, mineral water reserves. Region development vision The Mangystau Region is expected to become a region showing sustainable quality of life growth and business improvement through increased coal production and deep conversion of raw hydrocarbons, development of high value added building industry, enhancement of regional infrastructure and improvement of international transport corridor on the West of Kazakhstan. Presently, only a few building stone and mortar sand pits in development. In Kazakhstan, it represents about 7% of industrial production, about 70% of coal production, ¾ of ferroalloy production, about 40% of electric power generation and petroleum product production. It has enough capacity for development of chemical, machine-building and metal working industries. Overall in-place reserves of solid commercial minerals are evaluated at 460 billion dollars (coal, different metals, gold, building materials, etc.). The Region has over one third of coal reserves in Kazakhstan, including Ekibastuz (10.5 billion tons), Maikuben (2.2 billion tons), while reserves of the other 9 deposits constitute about 3 billion tons. Here locates the largest copper porphyritic deposits (Boschekul) having 3.5 million ton reserves of copper, molybdenum, silver and other precious metals. Probable resources of gold fields are estimated at 150 tons, that also contain silver, copper, zinc, barite. Cobalt deposits are estimated at 14,000 tons, nickel at 251,000 tons, manganese at 70,000 tons. Of paramount importance for the Region are such ore reserves as molybdenum, beryllium, indium, thallium, gallium, cadmium, germanium, selenium, tellurium, etc. In the Region, deposits of malachite and calaite are found. Probable resources of oil are estimated at 315 million tons, of gas at 148 billion m3 a year. The Region has 89 deposits of widely spread minerals such as raw materials used in production of different building materials, in industry and for other purposes. Sukhanov deposits hold about 700 million tons of such valuable raw material as kaolinitic (fire white) fireclay. Achieve a 32.0% increase of processing industry share in GRP; increase in rate of investments to processing industry up to 100%; increase in innovation product output up to 35,500 million tenge; increase in metallurgical product output up to 470,889.7 million tenge (253,799.7 million tenge in 2009); increase in chemical product output up to 8,841.6 million tenge; increase in machine-building product output up to 54,975 million tenge (29,097 million tenge in 2009); increase in oil refining up to 5,100,000 tons. Develop basic industries to foster technological enhancement and transit to an innovation development model; through a cluster economic development model and active role of small businesses enlarge vertical diversification of products of traditional export sectors; provide government support under the programs on forced industrialization to increase expand processing industry and diversify the regional economy. In the Pavlodar Region a multi-sector industrial complex has formed. The regional industrial potential is based on large export-oriented industrial companies. The developed industrial potential of the region boosted development of transportation lines and transport business relations. The Region represents a sophisticated transportation node, where originate the largest domestic oil pipeline to the south of Kazakhstan (to Shymkent), long-distance power transmission lines to different regions of Kazakhstan and Russia, Irtysh canal from Karaganda to Zhezkazgan, railway track going to Russia, the central and southern parts of Kazakhstan. The mining industry development is associated with export-oriented production of minerals, primarily with uranium production. Power, gas and water production and distribution constitute a small share in the regional industrial production (10.8% in 2009). In total output of Kazakhstan, the Region produces 100% of cotton fiber, 99.2% of transformers, 48.0% of pharmaceuticals, 46.1% of gasoline, 22.9% of furnace fuel oil, 16.8% of cement, 16.7% of beer, 24.9% of wine, 15% of flour. Reserves of subsoil resources are represented by rich deposits of barite, coal, iron and complex ores, uranium, phosphorous, bentonite clays, vermiculite, talcum, limestone, granite, marble, gypsum and quartz sand. In the Region operate 156 subsoil users, 13 of which are businesses with foreign ownership, that are involved in production of uranium, gold, oil, gypsum and ground waters. The Region is expected to become an international transit center of Eurasia; a center of ally friendly and high-tech production of competitive products in agricultural, cotton textile, mining, pharmaceutical, oil refining clusters; a center of mass and elite pilgrimage and eco tourism and sport; a region of growing opportunities for development and realization of human potential and increasing life quality. "During it is intended to build an international transit corridor West Europe West China. By 2015, it is expected to nearly double chemical production. Implementation of Monoammonia and Diammonia- Phosphate Plant project based on Ushbas and Geres deposits, State Enterpise Kazakhstan Mineral Resources LLP will enable production of at least 1 MTA of nitrogen-phosphate fertilizers. With the extension of Khimfarm JSC in Shimket the capacity will increase up to 4 million infusions, 300 million ampulas a year in accordance with GMP standards. Implementation of the project of Agrofos-Yug LLP on for Phosphorous Fertilizer Production from Phosphorus Plant Wastes will allow producing such mineral fertilizer as ordinary superphosphate. It is expected to increase output of textile and apparel industries (through commissioning of a number of enterprises in FEZ Ontustik), production of other nonferrous minerals (commissioning of new cement plants and building industry productions), oil refining (retrofit of ShNPZ) and nuclear materials, food industry. One of the world s largest oil-and-gas bearing land areas Karachaganak - is located near the city of Aksai. The field occupies the area of 280 km2. Its reserves come to 1.35 trillion m3 of gas and over 1.2 billion tons of oil and gas condensate. Recoverable reserves of liquid raw hydrocarbons are about 320 million tons and of gas over 450 billion m3. In Bazarsholan rural district of Akzhaik district of the Region a boric potash salt deposits (Satimola) are developed, which reserves are estimated to be sufficient for the next 150 years. Semiglavomarskoye deposits have reserves of chalk of 22,000 m3, raw clay of 21,000 m3 and gaize of 6,100 m3. In Aksuat explored cement raw materials reserves of 1,106,482,000 m3 are sufficient for building a 1,3 MTA cement plant. As a hydraulic additive can be used siliceous clays from explored Shipovskoye deposits with reserves of 21,619,000 m3. The Region is expected to become a region showing sustainable growth of welfare and quality of life, having favorable business climate due to increased development of raw hydrocarbons and natural gas processing, dynamic development of processing industry, competitive sectors of agribusiness, and having extended transport infrastructure.
