2 Where we are BAR Bar is situated in the south-eastern part of Montenegro at the latitude 42 degrees north and at the longitude 19 degrees east. Bar is only 55 km far from the Montenegrin capital Podgorica and is at the distance of 45 km from the international airport Podgorica and 60 km fro the international airport Tivat. 4 POPULATION Bar s municipality has got 83 settlements and inhabitants. It is devided into 12 local communities. Bar is famous for its multi-nationalities. Its wealth consists of 25 nationalities which are settled in this area. The number of inhabitants increased from 1948 to more than 100% - from to in There are young people and penssioners. 6 TOURISM Bar represents modern city that each day is expanding. As port city will amaze you with clean and done green spaces. There are many tourist attractions in its surrounding. Stari Bar, fortress of Haj Nehaj whose ruins from 15th century, King Nikola s castle represent historic and cultural monuments of the city, Olive tree old over 2000 years, the Lake of Scadar as one of the greatest bird reserves, large number of monasteries and churches for the visitors wishing this way of tourism, A handful of festivals and cultural manifestations: International TV festival, Gatherings under old olive tree, Chronicle of Bar. 7 TOURISM Bar has got an average of 270 sunny days in a year and is rated as one of the sunniest place in the South Europe. Its climate is characterized by long and hot summers. Its avarage year temperature is 15,5 degrees Celsius - in July its avarage temperature is 23 degrees Celsius and in January 10 degrees Celsius. It is only 180 km far from the Strait of Otranto in airline distance and that is the reason why Bar is sometimes called The Adriatic Gate. Created by Ćazim Nikezić 7

8 TOURISM A great deal of people from our country as well as foreign tourists are attracted by good traffic lines, sandy beaches, numerous sunny days and natural beauty of the scenery. Today the Municipality of Bar has at its disposal: beds in hotels, 3000 beds in tourist resorts beds in private homes. The finishing touches are being made in building the Marina with 982 places forneeds of the nautical tourism. The main bearers of the development of tourism are HTP Korali, Inex-Zlatna obala (The Golden Coast), Biserna obala - Canj (The Pearl Coast), PP Talastours etc. The special natural ressource is Skadar Lake with its coasts saved from urbanizationhich offer nummerous possibilities for development. 10 MUNICAPALITY OF BAR Beaches- Sutomore Sutomore It is in the vicinity of Bar. It is 1250m long, and the Golden beach which is 850m long, is next to it. Both of them are sandy, golden what makes this part of the coast extremely beautiful.being on the beach alleviates the sufferings of people with rheumatic problems.there are hotels and private apartments complexes, restaurants and cafes in the dense forest of pines and cypresses in their background. 11 Beaches-Čanj It is situated in the vicinity of Canj, at its very north. This small but attractive beach can be approached only from the sea. It is surronded with sediment cliffs. 17 CULTURE A great deal of cultural activities is connected with the Centre of culture which include: The Culture club Vladimir Popovic Spanac The National Library and Reading Room Ivo Vuckovic Bar Homeland Museum Nowadays the Cultural centre is like a complex cultural institution which includes also the Art Gallery Velimir A. 18 The Summer festival The Cronicle of Bar which takes place in July and August each year and consists of literary, musical, theatrical and fine arts segments. Encounters under the Old Olive Tree - meetings of writers and authors for children The International TV festival by the end of October. The basic aim of the cultural development in Bar is to include in all itsprogram - sections not only artists from Montenegro but also those from other countries and in that way to confirm the idea that for art there are no boundaries. 20 MUNICAPALITY OF BAR SPORT Bar has got nowadays 59 different sport associations and clubs with 1200 competitors and many of them are competing in federal ligues. Bar is town of the young and it has got the potential of young people up to 19 years of age who can be included in sports activities. For that reason we are starting to organize: The Elementary schools league and summer leagues. Sports activities have been organised and developed mostly on the grounds of the Sports-recreation centre Madzarica on Topolica, near the hotel Topolica. 21 MUNICAPALITY OF BAR SCHOOLING SYSTEM Bar is well known as the town of the young and has got a well developed school system for preschool, elementary and secondary education. In Bar there are: a preschool istitution, ten elementary schools and three secondary schools, as well as a school for elementary music education. 22 MUNICAPALITY OF BAR HEALTH SYSTEM Health care has got different forms of action. In Bar there are: General Hospital, Health Centre, five specialist surgeries, Bio-chemical laboratory and several private dentist s offices. 23 PRIVATE SECTOR Bar estimates that its future is in the private business, through the development of little and medium firms. In Bar there are about 600 registered private enterprises dealing with production, trade, catering and other services. These are : 168 shops and stores 223 craftsman s shops 20 agencies for intelectual services and for real estate 96 caterer firms In its history Bar was known as the second administative centre of Montenegro beacuse the last Montenegrin king Nikola used to spend a lot of time in it after he had bult his palace in Bar. To write or talk about Bar can be fine and interesting but the real impression of this town you can get only after familiarizing yourself with its characteristics, beauty and above all with its hospitable citizens.
