Warmest regards Gaye Stewart-Loudis - Membership Director. executive partner news Record Construction at Canaveral, New Port Deals Boost Economy With a record $213 million in current projects and newly signed cruise deals bringing the world s largest ships to Canaveral beginning next year, the Port is generating muchneeded jobs and boosting tax revenue for the area s sagging economy, according to estimates from Braun & Tramell. Current construction has created 1,894 construction-related jobs, generating $207 million for the regional economy. Among the projects is the $100 million-plus Seaport Canaveral tank farm, the largest single investment in Port history. Also in progress is the redevelopment of two marinas, a new restaurant, and a master stormwater system to preserve precious land on the Port's south side. Port-of-Calls Boom for Canaveral Carnival Cruise Lines and the Canaveral Port Authority today announced the dramatic return of Carnival port of calls to Port Canaveral, with a record 84 cruise ship calls now scheduled through The Carnival Pride will begin its weekly itinerary from Baltimore to the Bahamas starting in September With our recent announcements by Carnival, Disney Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean of homeporting the newest generation of cruise ships, Port Canaveral clearly has established itself as a leading homeport for the world s major cruise lines. We re now capitalizing on this success in building our port of call business, offering passengers richly diverse opportunities for world-class shore excursions in Brevard County and Central Florida, says Stan Payne, CEO, Port Canaveral. The Carnival announcement closely follows Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCL) decision to nearly double its port of call visits to Canaveral with 39 stops in GL First Class Exchange Forum Dubai: Focus on Ship Related Emissions to Air Maritime classification society Germanischer Lloyd conducted its first Exchange Forum in Dubai. The event, which dealt with shipping emissions and energy efficiency, was attended by a large number of representatives from the local maritime industry in the UAE: shipping companies, ship management agencies and shipyards. Organized by GL Office Dubai, the Forum highlighted the current status of emission control in respect to Sulphur-oxide emissions (SOx) Nitrogen-oxide emissions (NOx) and Carbon-dioxide emissions (CO2). The main speaker was Dr Pierre C. Sames, Director Strategic Research and Development of Germanischer Lloyd. He gave an overview about Ship emissions - status and challenge ahead in which he underlined the necessity of the IMO to obtain an international agreement on further reduction of ship related emissions to air. While SOx and NOx emissions have a strong impact on coastal regions, CO2 emissions pose a global challenge. Given the expansion of the world fleet, reducing air emissions has a high environmental priority for the shipping industry. News 1

2 Hamworthy Secures Orders for Over 1,000 Sewage Treatment Plants Hamworthy sewage treatment plants ordered last year are destined for a variety of ship types in the cruise, offshore, merchant shipping and military sectors. These orders demonstrate our strength in the market for supplying sewage treatment plants, said Joe Oatley, Chief Executive of Hamworthy. Hamworthy has a leadership position by providing innovative technological solutions to meet our customers needs. IMO s Marine Environment Protection Committee adopted revised guidelines on effluent standards and performance tests for sewage treatment plant in October These new MEPC 159(55) guidelines will supersede the existing MEPC 2(VI) guidelines, adopted in 1976, and specify tougher standards for all effluent quality parameters. Sister Port Agreement Bonds the Port of Los Angeles and Israel s Three Major Seaports Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa presided over the signing of a historic Sister Port Agreement between the Port of Los Angeles and the Israel Ports Development & Asset Company in Ashod Israel. The Agreement was signed on the Mayor s trade mission to the country by Los Angeles Harbor Commissioner Douglas E. Krause and Israel Ports Development Chief Executive Officer Shlomo Brieman. The Sister Port Agreement, the tenth entered into by the Port with others around the globe, calls for an exploration of mutually beneficial initiatives and a sharing of information on best practices in the areas of port management, port security and environmental management Governor O Malley Welcomes First-Ever Year-Round Cruises from Maryland Governor Martin O Malley hailed the decision from Carnival Cruise Lines to begin yearround cruises in 2009 from the Port of Baltimore as a tremendous win for the State of Maryland. Carnival, announced that beginning in September 2009 the Carnival Pride would begin a two-year, year-round sailing schedule from the Port of Baltimore. This marks the first time in the Port s 30-plus year cruise history that it will offer year-round cruising. The addition of Carnival gives the Port of Baltimore cruise service from the top three cruises operators in the world. Baltimore already is served by Royal Caribbean International and Norwegian Cruise Lines. Tampa Port Authority Welcomes Two New Commissioners The Tampa Port Authority Board of Commissioners announced the swearing-in of William A. Hoe Brown and Stephen W. Swindal, at the monthly board meeting on June 17. Florida Governor Charlie Crist appointed the two to the port commission on May 21. Brown, 50, is a real estate investor with JB Carrie Properties and succeeds Lance Ringhaver. Brown s term expires November 15, Swindal, 53, is chairman of Marine Towing of Tampa and succeeds Walter Joe Hartley. Swindal s term expires February 6, San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Program Wins Top Honors The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has bestowed a prestigious Clean Air Excellence Award on the landmark San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Program (CAAP), marking the sixth time that the plan has been recognized with an award, the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach announced. Created to reduce emissions in the San Pedro Bay port complex by more than 45% by 2012, the CAAP was chosen from among 130 programs submitted to the EPA for its impact and innovation in improving air quality, and its potential as a model for ports worldwide. The CAAP, adopted by the Harbor Commissions of the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach in 2006,includes a number of initiatives aimed at reducing harmful emissions from ships, trucks, trains and other heavy equipment used in the movement of cargo through the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. 3 BMT Group Uses Research Funding to Develop Marine Mammal Educational Tool BMT Group is aiding the ecotourism industry with a new guide to appeal to avid whale watchers. The burgeoning whale watching industry now accounts for over a $1 billion a year in global tourism revenues with excursions and tours in 87 countries, growing over 12% year on year. But passengers sometimes struggle to identify the different species of whale, and BMT has stepped up to meet this need. BMT has devoted internal research funding to create an educational whale identification kit, known as the 'BMT Whale Wheel'. The BMT Whale Wheel describes the features, size, location, and season information for ten North American whale species. It helps to identify species of the marine mammal by showing detailed illustrations of fluke, spout and fin characteristics - all tell tale signs of whale species. cruise line news Carnival Cruise Lines Selects Arnold and MPG as New Advertising Agency and Media Partner Carnival Cruise Lines has selected Arnold and MPG to oversee its comprehensive advertising programs, including all print, broadcast, design, direct marketing and digital media. Arnold/MPG was selected from a field of 13 of the country s best-known advertising agencies following a threemonth agency review process conducted by Carnival and assisted by New Yorkbased Ark Advisors. Carnival has a number of exciting projects in the works right now and Arnold presented some highly creative and innovative ideas that truly captured the essence of our brand, said Ruben Rodriguez, Carnival s executive vice president of marketing and guest experience. Princess Passengers Are First Cruisers to Experience Nintendo's Hugely Popular Wii Fit TM Game System After the muchanticipated Wii Fit(TM) system debuted across the country last month, Princess unveiled this fitness innovation at sea after shipboard staff completed special onboard trainings with Nintendo team members. Princess is the first cruise line to offer passengers the chance to get their hearts pumping with the headlinegrabbing new release on Wii TM. ms Eurodam Officially Delivered to Holland America Line Holland America Line and its parent company, Carnival Corporation & plc, officially accepted delivery of its newest ship, ms Eurodam, in a formal handover ceremony near Venice, Italy, on June 16. The 2,104-guest ship, built at Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri s Marghera shipyard, is the 14th ship in the premium line s distinguished fleet and the first in its Signature-class series. The Eurodam will arrive in Southampton, England, on June 27 to begin a series of introductory events for past guests, travel sellers, media and local officials. She then sails to her homeport, Rotterdam, arriving June 29 for three days of festivities including a naming ceremony with Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands officially dedicating the ship on July 1. NCL Announces Latest Enhancement to Partnership 2.0 NCL Corporation (NCL) announced that it has put into place an electronic co-op marketing reimbursement plan, e co-op, which further expands Partnership 2.0, the company s major travel partner initiative that was announced in December. The initiative has been driven by quantitative and qualitative feedback from travel partners and has been enabled by Apollo s billion-dollar investment in NCL and Star Cruises continued commitment and vision. The e co-op plan now automates marketing reimbursement contracts, back-up and check processing, in turn creating a trackable, efficient and paperless process. Norwegian Pearl Earns Environmental Award from Port of San Francisco Norwegian Cruise Line announced that Norwegian Pearl recently received the Port of San Francisco s Cruise Ship Environmental Award. In 2007, Norwegian Sun was honored with the same award. The Port s program recognizes annually those cruise ships whose on-board environmental systems help decrease air and water pollution. The three categories evaluated are air emission reduction, wastewater treatment and recycling and disposal programs for solid waste. It s an honor for Norwegian Pearl to be recognized by the Port of San Francisco for the environmental standards and practices we have in place to protect the waters on which we sail and earn our livelihood, said Colin Veitch, NCL s president and CEO. Royal Caribbean Selects Oasis of The Seas and Allure of The Seas as the Names for its Project Genesis Ships Royal Caribbean International defined the official names for the cruise line s newest class of cruise ships, until now referred to by the code name Project Genesis. The name Oasis of the Seas was selected from more than 91,000 entries in Royal Caribbean's Name that Ship contest, which the cruise line launched on January 18 in partnership with USA TODAY. Entrants were invited to submit two names ending in of the Seas that best encapsulate the universe of experiences a Royal Caribbean cruise provides guests. The contest marks the first time members of the general public, outside of the cruise industry, have been given the opportunity to name a cruise ship. George Weiser, of Livonia, Michigan, submitted the winning combination of names, Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas. Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Sets Sail To "Destination Joy" - A Fundraising Partnership With The Make-A-Wish Foundation Throughout the month of June, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. will be participating in the Make-A-Wish Foundation s Destination Joy fundraising campaign, allowing guests onboard Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Cruises ships to make donations to the Foundation. All funds raised will be given to the Make-A-Wish Foundation so they can grant wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions. Throughout June, Make-A-Wish donation cards will be available on all Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Azamara ships. News 4

Newly built cruise ships joining the fleet include: Holland America Line s Eurodam, Princess Cruises Ruby Princess, Celebrity Cruises Celebrity Solstice, Carnival Cruise Lines Carnival Splendor, and Royal Caribbean International s Independence of the Seas. In addition, Carnival Cruise Lines Carnival Freedom, Princess Cruises Tahitian Princess and MSC Cruises Orchestra will sail from Port Everglades for the first time. During the cruise season, expects to host 47 cruise ships from 16 cruise lines. Approximately 3 million cruise passengers are expected to embark and disembark from this coming year. And, coming in Fall 2009, will be the home of Royal Caribbean International s new Oasis-class ships, the largest cruise ships in the world.
