Whale Watching in Hawaii Just as our idyllic weather welcomes tourists from around the world, the warm and shallow waters surrounding the Hawaiian Islands are a favorite destination for kohola, or humpback whales. Scientists estimate that two-thirds of the entire North Pacific humpback whale population return to Hawaii to breed, calve and nurse their young. They race more than 3,000 miles from the Gulf of Alaska to Hawaii, then stay for a lengthy vacation, frolicking just off our shores and delighting spectators from December through May (with peak viewing time from January - March). Adult males range from 40 to 52 feet and can weigh up to 45 tons. Despite their size, humpback whales are graceful acrobats. Keep your eye on the ocean and you might see one breach, propelling up to 40 percent of its body out of the water and landing on its side with a spectacular splash. Whales have great cultural significance for Native Hawaiians. They play a large role in Hawaiian legend including one creation story and appear in ancient petroglyphs on several islands. The return of the kohola (humpback whale) is considered more of a homecoming than a visit. Humpback whales are born in Hawaiian waters, making them kamaaina (native born). That s right our Motorcoach will depart Kansas City, traveling thru NW Arkansas and heading for Hawaii (stopping at the Port of Los Angeles, to board Princes Cruises Emerald Princess because our motorcoach doesn t float). Our first day is a travel day as we head west towards California. Overnight: Best Western Plus, Yukon, Oklahoma DAY 2: Friday, March 8: Rise & Shine! Today we can sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenery looking out the large windows of our spacious motor coach. Today is a travel day; a great day to get acquainted with fellow travelers. Today we will enter into the Mountain Time Zone. We ll arrive Albuquerque and have dinner (on you own) with free time for shopping in Old Town Albuquerque. Overnight: Holiday Inn Express, Albuquerque, New Mexico (B) DAY 3: Saturday, March 9: Today we visit the Petrified Forest National Park. The Petrified Forest is known for her beauty and brains! Best known for globally significant Late Triassic fossils, the park attracts geologists, paleontologists, archaeologists, historians, and biologists; just to name a few. And of course the tourist, like us, searching for the scenic vistas, all the vast wilderness, beautiful skies and amazing landscapes. Following our visit to the Petrified Forest we ll have free time and dinner in Williams, Arizona on Historic Route 66. Overnight: Best Western Plus King s Inn, Kingman, Arizona (B) DAY 4: Sunday, March 10: Welcome to sunny California! This afternoon we ll enjoy a tour of Hollywood Past and Present! We ll have a chance to get off the coach at Hollywood & Highland to see the stars along the Walk of Fame, the famous footprints in front of Grauman s Chinese Theatre, and take photos of the Hollywood sign and so much more! Ensenada, Mexico Monday, March 25: Ensenada, Mexico, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Ensenada is located 70 miles south of the international border and only a 90-minute drive from San Diego. Visitors are drawn to Ensenada s warm Mediterranean climate, friendly atmosphere and easy access by land, air, and sea. Our cruise ship is required to visit one international port on our sailing which is why we visit Ensendada, Mexico. Our Return Home DAY 20: Tuesday, March 26: Welcome back to sunny California! Today we ll disembark our cruise ship and start our journey home. But first we ll visit a Top 10 Must Visit in the Los Angeles area. It is a public park, commemorating the song Take It Easy which was written by Jackson Browne and Glenn Frey and, most famously, recorded by the Eagles.
