1 V.I.Pace Runners Bulletin: December 19, 2015 Runners have fun at last race of the year in St. Croix A group of about forty runners showed up at sunrise at beautiful Cane Bay Beach in St. Croix on Saturday to run the last road race of the year, the 33 rd V.I.Pace Runners Cane Bay 5Mile Jingle Bell Run. The Northshore route not only has running history, it is the venue for at least two major feature films including: The Island of Dr. Moreau starring Burt Lancaster and Trading Places with Eddie Murphy and Dan Ackroyd. The out-and-back/loop course saw a father and son team get into action early on as Nickolas Franks went to the lead and held it to the end to win the race with a time of 32:13, while his father, Will used the race to recover from his 29 th (need to verify) New York City Marathon. Nyam Bansal of Good Hope Country Day School finished second with a time of 35:44; Paul Evora ran his first St. Croix Marathon on this route last week, was third in 36:07; Troy Holloway was fourth in 39:17 and Jason Snow finished fifth in a virtual tie with his father in 39:22. Bridget Klien, also recovering from last week s marathon was the top female runner Saturday and fourth overall in the race. Her time was 36:23; Collen Chin was second in 38:36; Jullie Summer was third in 40:33; Heidi Snow was fourth in 42:19 and Dulcie Crowther was fifth in 42:31. Several runners participating in either the marathon or the half-marathon last week which featured for the first time in V.I. history, visiting Cuban marathon runners, were either recovering or as in the case of Mike Klein, Bridget Klein and Troy Holloway are preparing for the St. Croix Scenic 50 Mile race, the longest in the Territory coming up January 24. Runners picked the best costume for the Jingle Bell Run and that runner won a turkey and Bridget Klein was also fortune and won the raffle of another turkey sponsored by LNL Publishing.
