2 Regular Camp Hours 9:00AM to The regular hours for the DARC Teen Camp Program are 9:00AM to. Extended hours will be available in the mornings from 7:30 to 9:00AM and afternoons from 4:00 to 5:30PM THE ADDITIONAL FEE FOR BEFORE &/OR AFTER CARE IS $35 PER WEEK. This fee is payable at the time of registration. Please make sure that you pick up a weekly schedule each Monday. Please make sure you fill out and hand in to a counselor the Pick-up Consent Form and Medication Dispensing Form prior to dropping your child off! Rainy Day Policy The Teen Camp Program runs rain or shine. The staff will report each day regardless of the weather. We are lucky enough to have access to the Pavilions at Bell Tavern which allows us adequate coverage during light rain. In the case of extreme weather conditions (thunderstorms, lightning, etc.) we can access the East Caln Twp. Building to take cover indoors until the inclement weather passes. If it rains on one of the major trip days, the trip may be cancelled or rescheduled. If it is rescheduled, we will try to make it for the following day when possible. Please remember that we will do our best to make each event happen, but sometimes the weather does not cooperate or other matters intervene and all schedules are subject to change. We appreciate your flexibility. Child Drop-Off and Pick-Up Policy Attached is a copy of the Pick-Up Consent Form that we ask parents / guardians to fill out and return to the camp counselors on the first day that your child attends camp. Only persons designated on this pick up consent form will be permitted to pick up children from the Teen Camp Program. If another person is to pick up your child(ren) on any particular occasion, permission must be given in writing prior to the time of pick up. All children must be signed in and out each day. Our regular program hours are 9:00AM to (unless otherwise noted on the schedule). You are responsible for drop-off and pick-up of your child(ren) at these times. We do allow a brief grace period after which the late charges will take effect. Anyone found abusing the pick-up time rule will be charged a late fee of $5.00 per every five minutes late beginning at 4:10PM (i.e. 4:10PM = $5.00 late fee, 4:15PM = $10.00 late fee, etc.) REFUSAL TO PAY THIS FEE IN A TIMELY MANNER WILL BE CAUSE FOR YOUR CHILD TO BE DISMISSED FROM THE PROGRAM. The late fee(s) may be paid to the counselor(s) or to the DARC Office. It will be used to compensate the counselors for the time they spend after the program has ended. Weekly Schedules Enclosed are the weekly calendars for the Teen Camp Program to give you an idea of what activities are planned for this summer. Keep in mind that these are tentative and are subject to change. A more detailed weekly schedule will be distributed at camp each Monday. Please make sure that you pick up one of these and note the major trip days on your calendar. Always keep in mind that we will do our best to make each event happen, but sometimes the weather does not cooperate or other matters intervene and all schedules are subject to change. We appreciate your flexibility. Camp T-Shirts Each camper will receive a camp T-shirt which will be distributed to all new campers on Mondays. The camp T-shirt must be worn on the major trip day. Each camper will receive one t-shirt for the summer. If your child did not receive a shirt, or lost their shirt, please call the recreation office at We generally give each camp a few extra t-shirts in case you need to switch sizes. What to Bring It is recommended that each child bring a backpack each day filled with personal items such as, sunscreen, a towel, a lunch with a drink, a reusable water bottle, a hat, and swimming attire when needed. Please be advised that all participants must wear or bring along a pair of socks and closed toed shoes. There will be activities when sandals will not be appropriate. As stated above, it is recommended that you send a water bottle to camp each day. You are also encouraged to send your child with a snack and an extra drink. DARC DOES NOT PROVIDE SNACK OR DRINK. Make sure all belongings are marked with your child s name. PAGE 2
3 Trips All of the planned trips which require admission will be paid for by DARC. The amount of spending money (for souvenirs, snack food, etc.) is at the discretion of each parent we recommend sending $10 each day. Spending money is not required! Whenever we go on a trip, we will be able to go the school bus to eat a packed lunch if you do not want to purchase a lunch. Reminder: The camp T-shirt must be worn on our major trip day. Please read over the weekly schedules to see if there are any special considerations for certain trips. Please check the weekly schedules and plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time. We will not be responsible if your child misses the bus and there will be NO REFUNDS for the missed trip. If you know that your child will not be attending camp on any given day, please be courteous contact the recreation office or darc@kennett.net to let us know. Sunscreen All campers are required to bring their own sunscreen each day. They must also know how to apply the sunscreen themselves. The camp counselors will remind them to apply/reapply the sunscreen throughout the day (especially on days when the trip is to an outdoor destination) but they cannot apply it for them. We recommend that sunscreen is applied before coming to camp each day. Cell Phones Cell Phones are ONLY to be used for necessary communication with parents. Cell phones will be collected at the beginning of camp and returned before the camper leaves. If the camper needs to make a phone call they may ask the councilor to use their phones at any time but must put it back when done. Any campers that are seen using cell phones without prior approval from a counselor will have their cell phones confiscated for the remainder of the day and receive a write up.cell phones will be returned at the end of the day. Disciplinary Procedure Disciplinary problems will be handled with a three strikes and you are out procedure. Violations that relate to the behavior and do not endanger the safety of themselves or others will be handled as follows: 1) 1 st Offense: A verbal warning will be issued to the child and a written incident report will be issued to the parents. 2) 2 nd Offense: A second incident report will be written, meeting with parents and appropriate staff, and a oneday suspension from the following day of camp. 3) 3 rd Offense: A third incident report will be written, meeting with parents and appropriate staff, and dismissal from the program without refund. Those violations that are more serious in nature and/or endanger the safety and well being of the child, other children, or the staff are grounds for immediate suspension and/or permanent dismissal from the program. Such offences are at the discretion of the Executive and Assistant Director and are final. No refunds are given to dismissed children. Bell Tavern Location Address is 110 Bell Tavern Road, Downingtown, PA The camp will meet in the pavilion areas located toward the back of the park (near the tennis courts). Contact Information If you have to reach a camper (or camp staff) during camp hours, please call the DARC Office at or darc@kennett.net. We will relay the message onto the counselors for you. Please DO NOT call the township buildings or any destinations of our day trips! PAGE 3 If providing your child with spending money for food, souvenirs, etc., we recommend sending $10 each day. *Spending money is not required*
4 Summer 2017 Dear Parents, Thank you for your interest and participation in the Downingtown Area Recreation Consortium (DARC) 2017 Summer Teen Camp Program. The program has grown over the past few summers with the continued support of the municipalities within the Downingtown Area School District. The goal of the program is to provide safe, exciting, fun filled summer activities for youth between the ages of eleven to fourteen (going into 6 th, 7 th, & 8 th grade). To achieve an enjoyable summer, we have some exciting activities and trips planned. Please read this handbook carefully, along with the youth attending the camp, and should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us. You may call us at or darc@kennett.net. Let s have a safe, enjoyable and fun-filled summer at camp! Sincerely, The DARC Staff Please read the following contract, along with the Policy Agreement found on the back of the registration form. Sign & return the ENTIRE PAGE to the DARC Office (114 Bell Tavern Rd. Downingtown, PA 19335) or turn into the counselors on the first day you attend camp. Thank you! Also I understand that my camper will participate in outdoor activities where sun can be an issue and it is the camper s responsibility to apply sun block.
