5 June Camps Entering Grades: 4th - 6th Dates: June 17-20, 2013 Course Number: CYC-1500 The Art of Science/Cell Division is designed to expose campers to the concept of cell division at a young age. Campers will learn to take notes, engage in group discussions, and complete two projects during the four day camp. Topics will include Mitosis and Meiosis. Campers will present one of their projects to other participants on the final day of camp. Entering Grades: 7th - 10th Dates: June 17-20, 2013 Course Number: CYC-2010 This class mixes the skills of public speaking half the day and the other half is dedicated to theater. In public speaking, campers will learn how to speak confident and sure. Communication is vital to having a great career. Expressing oneself is a key to success. This will help campers form their thoughts, opinions and share them in a clear and concrete way. Using theater and public speaking to tell stories, participants will learn about the traditional forms of theater and the non-traditional theater such as Guerilla and Puppet Theater. Creating stories that are participant inspired, campers will learn about set design, costumes, directing and acting. Most importantly, campers will learn how to tell their stories in an inexpensive and effective way. Campers are required to bring a notebook and flash drive. summercamps@delta.edu :: :: 3
6 Entering Grades: Dates: Locations: Camp Fee: 1st - 12th June 17-21, 2013 or June 24-28, 2013 or July 15-19, 2013 or July 29 - August 2, 2013 Monday - Friday 9am - 4:30pm Delta College Main Campus Friday, Maple Leaf Golf Course $175 Registration Fee $200 Late Registration (Within 10 days of camp) Camp fee includes daily lunch. This camp offers beginner to advanced curriculum for young golfers. No equipment or prior experience is required. Each child will receive forty hours of professional instruction and will be taught the game, core values and proper technique. Each camp culminates on Friday with a round of golf at Maple Leaf Golf Course, and a coupon for a $1 round of golf when accompanied by an adult. Whether campers have never studied Spanish before or if they are just brushing up on what they ve learned before, the information covered in this camp may enrich the rest of their lives. This series of lessons is designed to help beginning Spanish students or anyone else learning the language with the fundamentals needed for further learning and study. 7 Entering Grades: 2nd - 6th Dates: June 24-27, am - 4pm Location: Delta College Planetarium, Bay City Camp fee includes daily lunch & transporation. Course Number: CYC-1505 Campers will participate in fun and interactive learning activities at multiple sites: arts & crafts including pottery; science including astronomy, biology and ecology; full day exploring nature at Tobico Marsh and the Bay City Recreation area; swimming & exercise at the new Bay Family Y; technology and adventures which stimulate curiosity and creativity. Campers will arrive and depart daily from the Delta College Planetarium & Learning Center in downtown Bay City. Entering Grades: 6th - 8th Dates: June 24-27, 2013 Course Number: CYC-2510 The Master Student is a fun, interactive camp designed to prepare campers for the new school year. Campers will learn test taking strategies, memorization strategies, note taking skills, and time/stress management. They will participate in group discussions and handson activities throughout the camp. 8 Entering Grades: Preschool - 1st Dates: June 24-27, am - 12pm Camp Fee: $129 Course Number: CYC-2500-SP100 Entering Grades: Preschool - 1st Dates: July 22-25, 2013 Course Number: CYC-2500-SU100 The SUPER WHY! Reading Camp will be an interactive reading adventure for your young learner. Every day will be a new adventure. During the four day camp we will explore letter identification, rhyming with word families, letter sounds and spelling, and vocabulary and comprehension. At the end of the week, campers will be able to take away skills that they can continue to work on throughout the summer. Dates: Monday, June 24, 2013 for Grades 1st - 4th Wednesday, June 26, 2013 for Grades 5th - 7th 9am - 3pm Camp Fee: FREE These one-day camps provide an opportunity for youth to learn about asthma. They provide interaction with other campers with asthma in a fun and safe environment. Asthma Camp supervisors are Registered Respiratory Therapists and the mentors are second-year Delta College Respiratory Therapy students. Campers attending should bring rescue and midday medications, a towel, swim suit, and tennis shoes. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Contact Tim Heinz at to register. 9 July Camps Entering Grades: 6th - 9th Dates: July 15-18, :45am - 4pm Camp Fee: $129 Course Number: CYC-2000 The Humanities Learning Center at Delta College offers campers a unique and challenging summer learning experience. Campers will move through three class sessions each day. Classes are taught by members of Delta s innovative faculty and will introduce campers to a variety of humanities and related disciplines. All sessions share a common, underlying theme that demonstrates the importance of civility to a fully functional society. Session Topics Include: You? A Professional? Digital Storytelling The Black Death and Other Medieval Disasters Quest for the Best! Studio Production Weihnachten in Juli (Christmas in July) Understanding Our Environment Philosophy s Big Ideas: The Perennial Questions of Philosophy Character in Cinema For Youth entering grades 1st - 12th Brought to your family by the Bullseye Golf Foundation, in partnership with Delta College. 10 Entering Grades: 7th - 10th Dates: July 15-18, 2013 Course Number: CYC-2200 The use of Photography and planned photo shoots will be essential for campers to access their creativity. Throughout the week, campers will make use of sketching mockups, as well as draw and preview thumbnails necessary for the graphic design of printed and web work. Skills such as writing, camera operation, design and leadership using a team concept will be developed. Campers are required to bring a digital camera and flash drive. Entering Grades: 7th - 12th Dates: July 15-18, 2013 Explorations in Construction and Technology Summer camp is a unique four day camp for middle school and high school age campers in the Great Lakes Bay Region to explore the technical skilled trades through a typical workday experience. Hands on active sessions include Welding, Carpentry, CAD/Machine Tool, Solar and Wind Technology, and Automotive Technology. 11 Entering Grades: 3rd - 6th Dates: July 15-18, :30pm - 4:30pm Camp Fee: $129 Course Number: CYC-2201-SU100 Entering Grades: 7th - 12th Dates: July 29 - August 1, 2013 Course Number: CYC-2201-SU101 Color Wheel Painting is designed to cover all the basics of painting and color. Campers will discuss the color wheel and the interesting tones created by mixing paints. This camp will explore the freedom of creativity through a fun painting process and lively discussions. Campers will decide the most interesting ways to layout still life subjects so they are the most appealing to the eye. Several types of brushes will be used and activities will show how each lay down paint quite differently. Most importantly, campers will have a ton of fun and realize there are no mistakes in painting. Entering Grades: 4th - 6th Dates: July 29 - August 1, 2013 Course Number: CYC-1020 Experimentation and imagination help to develop one s play instinct. The camp instructor will set up the room and invite campers to tinker and play. There will be everything from building blocks to robotic kits. Campers will participate in brainstorming sessions and create innovative solutions. Campers will create a unique product out of a box full of miscellaneous supplies. They will present their inventions by acting out a 30 second commercial to the group. summercamps@delta.edu :: :: 9
12 Entering Grades: 4th - 8th Dates: July 22-25, am - 12pm Camp Fee: $129 Course Number: CYC-1100 Using our unique LEGO kits, campers will creatively build and modify machines applying basic engineering principles. This is an integrated science and math class. Campers will learn a variety of concepts and apply their acquired knowledge about gearing and gear ratios, simple machines, problem solving, and communication skills, throughout this class. This challenges campers to incorporate the traits of an Engineer in a classroom setting. Please note, campers will not get to bring home any of the LEGO projects they create. Entering Grades: 4th - 8th Dates: July 22-25, pm - 4pm Camp Fee: $129 Course Number: CYC-1101 Campers will use our unique LEGO kits to build a variety of cars that they will battle. This is a class of exploration, problem solving, and risk-taking with a goal of learning and experimenting on how machines work and compete. Campers will learn a variety of concepts throughout this class including basic engineering principles, gearing and gear ratios, electric motors and energy, problem solving, and communication skills. Please note, campers will not get to bring home any of the LEGO projects they create. July 10 Delta College Summer Camps 2013 Camps listed by grade on page 2

Activities provides great hands-on learning and building experiences. Campers will creatively build and modify machines through basic engineering skills using our unique LEGO kits and curriculum. Please note, campers will not get to bring home any of the LEGO projects they create. 14 August Camps Entering Grades: 4th - 6th Dates: August 5-8, am - 12pm Location: Delta College Planetarium, Bay City Camp Fee: $129 Course Number: CYC-1506 Come and explore with us our wonderful planet Earth as well as learn about space exploration including the International Space Station, rocketry, robotics, aeronautics, astronauts, remote sensing, satellites and NASA missions. Included will be Astronomy demonstrations, interactive activities, and educational experiences about stars, Earth and other planets in our Solar System. This is your chance to explore our universe! Entering Grades: 9th - 11th Dates: August 5-8, 2013 Course Number: CYC-2511 College Bound/ACT Prep is designed to give campers a glimpse of what to expect when they take the ACT Test. Campers will take four practice tests including English, Math, Science, and Reading. Prior to each, campers will discuss strategies on how to approach each test. Campers will also complete a writing prompt and present to the class. August 12 Delta College Summer Camps 2013 Camps listed by grade on page 2
15 Entering Grades: 7th - 10th Dates: August 12-15, 2013 Course Number: CYC-2011 Campers will acquire the skills to run radio program, print journalism and how to report stories that are relevant to their realities by utilizing computers, handheld recorders, audio interfaces, software and their community. They will learn advanced editing techniques in the latest audio editing software and how to produce a series of podcasts. They will also learn basic journalistic techniques for print and the internet. Upon completion of the program we hope campers will have a better understanding of their community and how to use radio and print journalism to give a voice in their community. Students need to bring a flash drive and digital recorder, if possible. Entering Grades: 4th - 6th Dates: August 12-15, 2013 Course Number: CYC-2512 MEAP Prep 101 is a fun, interactive class that is designed to give campers a jump-start in preparing for the fall MEAP test. Campers will learn tips and techniques to complete all areas of the test through small group and individual discussions. Campers will practice writing prompts, discuss sample writings, practice math problems, and work on reading techniques. summercamps@delta.edu :: :: 13

To request a drop, please contact the LifeLong Learning office at (989) Delta College reserves the right to cancel any class that does not receive the minimum number of registrations. Parents will be contacted by phone if this occurs and can select another camp if available or request a full refund. 18 Register In Person Register In Person at the Registrar s Office in B-100 or in the LifeLong Learning office in the H-wing of Delta College s Main Campus. Register Online Students are responsible for making sure pre-requisites have been completed and verified prior to online registration. Payment is due at the time of registration. If the class you wish to register for is FULL you must call LifeLong Learning to be added to the WAITLIST.
