2 ANN ARBOR YMCA SUMMER PROGRAMS Thank you for taking an interest in becoming a part of our summer staff and volunteer team at the Ann Arbor YMCA. Each year we provide quality experiences to hundreds of youth across Washtenaw County and Southern Livingston County. Like any of our programs it is the staff, interns, and volunteers who are directly involved with the participants on a daily basis that make our programs the special experience they create for so many children year after year. With the summer of 2019 now approaching, we are looking for passionate, committed and enthusiastic staff and volunteers that will make this summer even better. We hope that you will find a program that suits your interests. Within this brochure you will find an introduction to the Ann Arbor YMCA summer programs, summaries of various roles, leadership skills and important dates. Apply online at 2 2

OUR AREAS OF FOCUS Goals of Ann Arbor Y Summer Programs At the Y, we inspire kids to work together, learn together and play together, creating friendships that can last a lifetime! Our highly trained staff and volunteers helps campers realize that the Y is a place where they can be themselves while trying new things, building new skills and making new friends. This summer our goal is to teach new skills, to build confidence in our campers and to help each youth realize their unique talents and potential, while facilitating meaningful friendships between campers. Developmental Assets at Work The Developmental Assets framework represents the relationships, opportunities, and personal qualities that young people need to avoid risks and to thrive. It is our goal to expose participants to as many of these positive factors as possible. According to the Search Institute, Studies of young people in the United States consistently show that the more assets young people have, the less likely they are to engage in a wide range of high-risk behaviors and the more likely they are to thrive. Assets have power for all young people, regardless of their gender, economic status, family, or race/ethnicity. Below is a list of Developmental Assets present in our Summer and Day Camp programs. 6 WORKING WITH THE ANN ARBOR Y SUMMER PROGRAM STAFF, INTERNS, AND VOLUNTEERS All staff, interns, and volunteer members are selected for their enthusiasm, dedication, maturity, and desire to work with youth. The Ann Arbor Y is committed to hiring a team that reflects the communities we serve. Summer Program and Day Camp staff team members and interns are required to participate in a week long training program that covers safety, supervision, counseling and camp procedures. CPR and First Aid is also a requirement. Additionally, lifeguard certification and other specialized certifications may be required and/or encouraged for specific roles. On the following pages you will find locations of summer programs and camps, leadership skill levels and all summer positions. GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS FOR STAFF REQUIRED Must be at least 18 years of age Must demonstrate creativity, enthusiasm, and dedication to positive youth development Must be CPR and First Aid Certified prior to employment (Ann Arbor Y provides certification for all staff) Must submit to national background check and DHS clearance Must have 3 professional references Must be available to attend staff training, June PREFERRED Multi-lingual ability Willingness to obtain lifeguard certification (Ann Arbor Y will provide certification opportunities) Experience working with youth in group setting, creating and/or implementing lesson plans Full summer availability Ability to obtain and maintain chauffer license APPLICATION PROCESS Applications for summer employment and volunteer positions open December All applicants must apply online through the Ann Arbor Y website, Early applications are due January 21, Applications for all level 3 positions are due February 15, The general application deadline for level 1 and 2 positions, and unfilled level 3 positions is March 18, SCREENING AND INTERVIEWS Accepted applicants will be contacted for a phone screen interview. If selected to continue, in-person interviews will be scheduled and held at the Ann Arbor YMCA location, 400 W. Washington, Ann Arbor, MI, HIRING AND ONBOARDING Follow-up will occur with each applicant within two weeks of their in-person interview. Any applicant not accepted will be notified with a letter. 7 WORKING WITH THE ANN ARBOR Y COMMUNITIES SERVED BY SUMMER PROGRAM STAFF, INTERNS AND VOLUNTEERS ANN ARBOR DOWNTOWN DAY CAMPS YPSILANTI DAY CAMPS The Ann Arbor Y Downtown location is host to a wide variety of full-day and half-day camps for youth, ages Camps range from traditionalstyle day camps to sports, specialty (dance, theater, cooking, science, etc.), and camps for teens. Schedule Monday Friday, Full-day camps run from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., half-day camps run 8:30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. 4:30 p.m. Sessions 1 11 Meeting Location Ann Arbor YMCA 400 W. Washington Ann Arbor, MI, Ypsilanti Day Camps offer opportunities for families in East Washtenaw County to participate in full-day and half-day camps for youth ages Camps range from traditional day camp to sports and specialty camps and utilize space from community partners. Schedule Monday Friday, Full-day camps run from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., half-day camps run 8:30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. 4:30 p.m. Sessions 1 9 Meeting Location Ypsilanti Community Schools (YCS) Specific locations TBD CAMP BIRKETT DAY CAMP YOUTH VOLUNTEER CORPS (YVC) Camp Birkett, located on Silver Lake in Pinckney, MI, offers campers, ages 5 12 a true outdoor experience. Campers participate in traditional camp activities each week, including canoeing, swimming, arts and crafts, sports, nature exploration, and archery. Each weeklong session also has a unique theme to provide a creative spin on camp activities. Schedule Monday - Friday, 7:45 a.m. 5:30 p.m., schedules vary based on job assignment. Sessions 1 10 Meeting Location Camp Birkett is located at 9141 Dexter Town-Hall Road, Pinckney, MI. Transportation is provided between Ann Arbor and Camp Birkett. Depending on job assignment, staff may be expected to provide their own transportation. The Ann Arbor YMCA s YVC is a youth-driven volunteer program for young community activists who are interested in leading social change through challenging, rewarding and educational service learning projects. Expanding Horizons, YVC s intensive summer program, provides teens to engage in weeklong blocks of service with community partners across Washtenaw County and Detroit. YVC is dedicated to serving the needs of the community and promoting a lifelong ethic of volunteerism and social justice. 8 STAFF POSITIONS - ANN ARBOR Y DOWNTOWN Throughout the summer, the Ann Arbor Y is host to a variety of traditional, sports, specialty and teen camps at various locations throughout Ann Arbor. Camps at the Ann Arbor Y downtown location run various sessions throughout the summer. For this reason, we may ask that counselors working at the downtown location be willing to work in a variety of capacities. ADMINISTRATIVE POSITION DAY CAMP REGISTRAR LEVEL 3 FULL-TIME The Day Camps Registrar will provide an organized, systematic and efficient registration experience for all day camp participants and be a positive point of contact for staff members and camper families. This position will manage the Day Camp Registration process during the summer season from March through September. MULTI PROGRAM POSITION INCLUSION SPECIALIST LEVEL 3 FULL-TIME The Inclusion Specialist will provide one-on-one and small group support to campers with differing levels of needs and abilities, including but not limited to, children with Individualized Education Programs (IEP s). The Inclusion Specialist will promote the emotional, physical, and cognitive development of all campers and support camp staff in modifying and adapting programming to create an inclusive environment where all campers feel welcome and are able to participate. Background in youth development, psychology, social work, education or a related field is required. TRADITIONAL CAMP POSITIONS TRADITIONAL DAY CAMP COORDINATOR LEVEL 3 FULL-TIME The Day Camp Coordinator will help to manage the daily operations of day camps including, but not limited to scheduling, ordering supplies, communicating with parents, organizing field trips, and assisting with check in/out. The Day Camp Coordinator will also spend time working in day camps. PREFERRED: Chauffeur License KIDVENTURE, WHIZ KIDS, AND FIT KIDS CAMP DIRECTOR LEVEL 3 FULL-TIME AND PART-TIME Our traditional day camps: Kidventure, Whiz Kids and Fit Kids are designed with a wide range of activities guaranteed to expand campers horizons. Kids have fun while making new friends, developing new skills, learning core values, building self-confidence, appreciating team work, and growing in selfreliance. The Kidventure Director (full-time), the Whiz Kids Director (part-time AM), and the Fit Kids Director (part-time PM) are responsible for planning and leading the daily schedule of activities including, but not limited to, arts and crafts, large and small group activities, themed activities, field trips, guest speakers and all-camp activities. The Kidventure, Whiz Kids and Fit Kids Directors are also responsible for the supervision and well-being of participants and staff. We are looking for individuals with planning and organization skills, as well as creative ideas for daily activities. Administrative experience is also desired from applicants. PREFERRED: Chauffeur License NUTRITION SPECIALIST LEVEL 2 PART-TIME The Nutrition Specialist is responsible for development and supervision of Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) programming. The Nutrition Specialist will dedicate their time infusing HEPA standards into Day Camps through physical activity and nutrition lessons, daily snack and parent engagement. REQUIRED: CATCH Training, HEPA, Concussion Prevention KIDVENTURE, WHIZ KIDS, AND FIT KIDS COUNSELOR LEVEL 1 FULL-TIME AND PART-TIME As a counselor, you will share the supervision responsibilities with other staff and help to facilitate and participate in all activities including, but not limited to swimming, arts and crafts, themed activities, field trips and all camp activities. You will also be expected to assist in planning small and large group activities. Additionally, flexibility and willingness to move between camps is required of this job. When applying you may list the preferred camp you would like to work with, but understand you may be asked to work in other locations as needed. 8

9 STAFF POSITIONS - ANN ARBOR Y DOWNTOWN SPECIALTY CAMP POSITIONS SPECIALTY CAMP LEAD LEVEL 2 PART-TIME The Ann Arbor Y offers a wide range of specialty camp programming for youth. Each camp has specific focus with the intention of helping campers develop their skills in that area and explore new talents. Specialty Camp Leads are responsible for the planning, creation, and implementation of camp curriculum. Leads are also responsible for the supervision and well-being of campers. We are looking for individuals with a strong background in program planning and organization skills as well as the ability to manage behavior, problem solve and communicate effectively is required. Down below is the list of specialty camps we offer, with available positions. ACTIVE GIRLS ADVENTURES IN ARTS AND CRAFTS ART EXPLORERS COMIC BOOK ADVENTURES DANCE DESIGN STAR PRODIGY (SCIENCE) CAMP SPANISH ZONE SURVIVAL TEAM-BUILDING NERF THEATER TOP CHEF SPECIALTY CAMP COUNSELOR LEVEL 1 PART-TIME Specialty Camp Counselors will assist specialists in a variety of camps offered throughout the summer. Counselor will be responsible for the supervision of campers as well as take lead on teambuilding activities and energizing games while fostering an inclusive environment for all campers. Ability to manage behavior, problem solve and communicate effectively is required. Experience in creative arts and youth empowerment is desired. We will hire multiple counselors for this position. ACTIVE GIRLS ADVENTURES IN ARTS AND CRAFTS ART EXPLORERS COMIC BOOK ADVENTURES DANCE DESIGN STAR PRODIGY (SCIENCE) CAMP SPANISH ZONE SURVIVAL TEAM-BUILDING NERF THEATER TOP CHEF ARE YOU INTERESTED IN WORKING IN MORE THAN ONE CAMP? Most of our specialty and sports camps are half-day so staff have the opportunity to work in two half-day camps for a full-day of fun! 9

10 STAFF POSITIONS - ANN ARBOR Y DOWNTOWN SPORTS CAMP POSITIONS TRAVEL CAMPS DIRECTOR LEVEL 3 FULL-TIME The Travel Camps Director will oversee programming for offsite camps (including Extreme Sports, Survival and Bowling Camp) and provide support for camps requiring transportation to offsite locations. Each camp requires high amounts of creativity and an organized structure to keep it entertaining throughout the week while challenging campers physically and mentally. The director should be creative and able to plan, organize, and implement sports, fishing and teambuilding activities. Experience in supervising staff and groups of youth is required. Applicants must be at least 21 with the ability to attain a chauffeur license. The Travel Camps Director is expected. SPORTS CAMP LEAD LEVEL 2 PART-TIME There is a wide variety of sports camps offered at the Ann Arbor YMCA. Each camp focuses on a specific sport, or a variety of sports with the intention of helping campers develop their skills and try new sports. Sports camp leads are responsible for facilitating activities relating to the specific sports camp they are assigned to. Leads will also be responsible for the supervision of campers and must be responsible and enjoy interacting with children. Applicants should also be able to participate in high energy games and sports. Experience in the playing sports is desired. Overly competitive applicants need not apply. Counselors will be responsible for the supervision of campers and will lead fun, engaging and energetic activities under the direction of the camp specialist. Ability to manage behavior, problem solve and create a sense of inclusiveness is required. Applicants should be in athletic shape and able to participate in high energy games/sports. Experience in a variety of sports including basketball, football, baseball and other sports is desired. Overly competitive applicants need not apply. 11 STAFF POSITIONS - ANN ARBOR Y DOWNTOWN TEEN DAY CAMP POSITIONS YOUTH VOLUNTEER CORPS POSITIONS Teen Adventure Camp (TAC) is a full day camp where teens, ages are introduced to enriching activities that build social skills, foster community engagement, encourage active lifestyles and tap in to their own intrinsic motivation. Teens take day trips to nearby destinations and embrace new experiences. TEEN ADVENTURE CAMP DIRECTOR LEVEL 3 FULL-TIME The TAC director is responsible for the daily schedule of activities as well as the supervision of all participants and support staff. The ultimate accountability on what happens in the camp falls on the shoulders of the director. REQUIRED: Ability to obtain and maintain a chauffer license TEEN ADVENTURE CAMP COUNSELOR LEVEL 2 FULL-TIME The Teen Adventure Camp Counselor will work alongside the TAC director and assist with delivery of TAC program curriculum. TAC Counselor is responsible for maintaining proper supervision, ensuring the safety and well-being of program participants and to be an advocate for positive youth development of teens. The TAC counselor plays a critical role in making each day great and enjoyable for all participants. REQUIRED: Ability to obtain and maintain a chauffer license TEEN SPECIALTY CAMP POSITIONS The Ann Arbor Y Day Camp and Teen Department is looking to hire a lead, or specialist, for each of the opportunities offered. BIZOLOGY CAMP SPECIALIST LEVEL 3 FULL-TIME This camp introduces teens, ages 12 16, to social entrepreneurship and business operations. Participants will learn innovative problem solving techniques, build on cross-disciplinary skills for effective and efficient business-based solutions. This position does require someone who is well-versed in business operations, passionate about entrepreneurship, and able to facilitate knowledge to teens in an effective and motivational manner. MEDIA MADNESS SPECIALIST LEVEL 2 PART-TIME This camp provides teens with a fun, interactive and hands-on opportunity to create social change in their community through the art of video production. The Media Madness Specialist will work directly with Teen and Volunteer Director and Community Television Network in delivering program curriculum. Participants will learn the video production process and gain skills in creative writing, scripting, storyboarding and more. Teens will identify important social issues, collaborate with community partners and create a short video that raises awareness about a topic of interest. The YVC of the Ann Arbor Y is part of an international network of programs that offers teens (ages 11-17) the opportunity to improve their world through volunteering. YVC mobilizes diverse groups of Youth Volunteers from across the community to engage in meaningful service-learning projects through collaboration with local non-profit agencies. The Ann Arbor YMCA s YVC is a youth-driven volunteer program for young community activist who are interested in leading social change through challenging, rewarding and educational service learning projects. YVC is dedicated to serving the needs of the community and promoting a lifelong ethic of volunteerism and social justice. YVC PROGRAM DIRECTOR LEVEL 3 FULL-TIME The YVC Expanding Horizons Summer Program Director is responsible for the overall safety of all participants, supervising YVC Team Leaders as well as coordinating activities that meet program components and goals. YVC Program Director will work directly with Teen and Volunteer Director to develop Youth Volunteer Corps Summer program curriculum in accordance with YMCA core principles and YVC HQ guidelines. YVC Program Director will be responsible for communication and coordination with parents, participants, and partnering agencies on project details, registration and program schedule. This role requires effective communication skills, ability to maintain inclusive environment for all, encourage for social and community engagement, promote a life-long commitment to service amongst youth and empowerment of YVC Team Leaders and program participants. REQUIRED: Ability to obtain and maintain a chauffer license YVC TEAM LEADER LEVEL 2 FULL-TIME A YVC Team Leader is expected to provide a safe and engaging environment for YVC participants and to promote youth stewardship and empowerment through the art of volunteering. Team Leaders will work directly with YVC Coordinator and Teen & Volunteer Director to deliver YVC Expanding Horizons Program curriculum through facilitation of service-learning projects for program participants, as well as assisting in the coordination and implementation of weekly workshops. PREFERRED: Chauffeur License BABYSITTER BOOT CAMP SPECIALIST LEVEL 2 PART-TIME This camps provides teens across Washtenaw County with the necessary skills to become a certified babysitter. The Babysitter Boot Camp counselor is responsible for the overall safety, supervision and well-being of all teen campers. In addition, counselor will lead and facilitate teambuilding exercises, activities and assist trainer with needs. 11

12 12 STAFF POSITIONS - CAMP BIRKETT PROGRAM DIRECTOR LEVEL 3 FULL-TIME Under the supervision of the Camp Birkett Director, the Program Director is responsible for the planning of program activities, all-camp events, overnights and the Leader-In-Training program. The Program Director ensures that weekly camp themes and programming objectives are delivered, and that specialist program areas provide activities that are safe, fun and age-appropriate. The incumbent also assists in the management of the overall camp operation at the discretion of the Camp Birkett Director. REQUIRED: Ability to obtain and maintain a chauffer license INCLUSION SPECIALIST LEVEL 3 FULL-TIME The Inclusion Specialist will provide one-on-one and small group support to campers with differing levels of needs and abilities, including but not limited to, children with Individualized Education Programs (IEP s). WATERFRONT DIRECTOR LEVEL 3 FULL-TIME Under the direction of the Camp Birkett Director and the policies of the Ann Arbor YMCA, the Waterfront Director will be responsible for upkeep of the waterfront facilities, enforcement of policies and procedures, and supervision of lifeguards. The Waterfront Director is responsible for waterfront programming and meeting all licensing requirements as they pertain to the waterfront. Activities include free swim, swim lessons, canoeing and shoreline exploration. Aquatic background including knowledge in lifeguarding and staff training is required. Current lifeguard certification, and willingness to convert to YMCA standards if necessary, is required. Knowledge of, and experience with, lakefront programming is desired. REQUIRED: Lifeguard Certification, Swim Lesson Instructor Training TEEN LEADERSHIP AND PROGRAM SPECIALIST LEVEL 2 FULL-TIME Under the direction of the Camp Birkett Director, the Teen and Program Specialist is responsible for the planning and implementation of the Leader-in-Training program. The Teen and Program Specialist is also responsible for working with Counselors-in-Training. This includes direction of staff on mentoring and coaching teens at camp. The Teen and Program Specialist also helps plan and deliver overnight programming, requiring overnight stays at camp. The Teen and Program Specialist should be well versed in camp programs, including being lifeguard certified, helping serve as a substitute for leading camp programs when needed. REQUIRED: Chauffer s License, Lifeguard Certification ARCHERY SPECIALIST LEVEL 2 FULL-TIME The Archery Specialist is responsible for assisting and leading campers in archery programs and activities. The Archery Specialist will instruct campers on all aspects of archery, from safety to marksmanship. The Archery Specialist will also assist Group Counselors in supervising and engaging with campers. A responsible, creative, and motivated person is required to plan and implement age and ability appropriate archery lessons. Applicants should have experience in archery, or be willing to undergo training in archery. REQUIRED: Archery Instruction Training ARTS AND CRAFTS SPECIALIST LEVEL 2 FULL-TIME The Arts and Crafts Specialist oversees the development and delivery of daily Arts and Crafts programming. The incumbent will be CAMP BIRKETT POSITIONS responsible for weekly thematic programming in the Arts and Crafts program. The Arts and Crafts Specialist will also assist Group Counselors in supervising and engaging with campers. Applicants should have experience in creative arts and can plan new ideas for a variety of ages. BOATING SPECIALIST LEVEL 2 FULL-TIME In accordance with the Waterfront Director, the Boating Specialist will conduct activities including canoeing, sailing, and other waterfront programs. The Boating Specialist will plan and deliver boating activities that are safe, fun, and age-appropriate. The Boating Specialist will be the primary lifeguard responsible for the safety of participants while boating. The Boating Specialist will also assist Group Counselors in supervising and engaging with campers. The Boating Specialist should have experience in both sailing and canoeing and requires a lifeguarding certification. REQUIRED: Lifeguard Certification OUTDOOR EDUCATION SPECIALIST LEVEL 2 FULL-TIME The Outdoor Education Specialist will create and facilitate activities based around nature and environmental education. The Outdoor Education Specialist should have a passion for science and the outdoors, with an ability to make learning about those subjects fun. Experience in outdoor education is desired. The Outdoor Education Specialist will also assist Group Counselors in supervising and engaging with campers. SPORTS SPECIALIST LEVEL 2 FULL-TIME The Sports Specialist is responsible for planning and implanting daily programs of team sports and integrate healthy living aspects into the sports program. Applicants should be able to participate in high energy games and sports. Experience in athletics or physical education is desired. The ability to plan fun and safe activities each day is required. Applicants should be trained in, or willing to undergo the CATCH certification process and Concussion training. Applicants should be knowledgeable on HEPA standards. The Sports Specialist will also assist Group Counselors in supervising and engaging with campers. REQUIRED: CATCH Certification, Concussion Training GROUP COUNSELOR LEVEL 1 FULL-TIME A Group Counselor is the primary caregivers for our campers. The Group Counselor leads campers through their daily routine and activities. Group Counselors function in a face-paced environment and are asked to perform multiple tasks daily. The primary function of a Group Counselor is to supervise, interact with, and engage the campers. Counselors may also be asked to assist the specialty staff in facilitating program activities. Applicants with a background working with youth desired. Responsible, energetic, and caring Group Counselors are desired.

13 STAFF POSITIONS - YPSILANTI DAY CAMPS YPSILANTI DAY CAMP POSITIONS SITE DIRECTOR LEVEL 3 FULL-TIME Under the supervision of the Youth Community Program Coordinator, the Site Directors will be responsible for the oversight and supervision of one of the Ann Arbor YMCA Ypsilanti Day Camp sites. This includes, but is not limited to: supervision of counselors and campers, ensuring that camp is safe, fun and the three drivers of camp Achievement, Relationships and Belonging are fostered among all campers. The Site Director shall be the point of contact for parents and will liaise with the site host. They will guide Group Leads and/or Specialists with program planning as well as plan weekly All-Camp-Activities and field trips, where required. The site director at YCS will assist with the delivery of the Leader-In-Training program. All Ypsilanti Day Camp Site Directors will help plan Camp Healthy Family Dinner Night. PREFERRED: Lifeguard Certification, Concussion Prevention, CATCH Training HEPA SPECIALIST LEVEL 2 PART-TIME Under the direction of the Youth Community Program Coordinator, the Ypsilanti Day Camps HEPA Specialist is responsible for development and supervision of Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) programming for the Day Camp programs with Ypsilanti Community Schools and McKinley Properties. This position will assist in training Day Camp staff in HEPA as well as implementing CATCH curriculum into summer programs. The HEPA Specialist will dedicate their time infusing HEPA standards into Day Camps through physical activity and nutrition lessons, daily snack and parent engagement. REQUIRED: CATCH Training, HEPA, Concussion Prevention; PREFERRED: Lifeguard Certification GROUP LEAD LEVEL 2 FULL-TIME Under the supervision of the Youth Community Program Coordinator and Site Director, each Group Lead is responsible for an age-based group of campers and the group counselors within their camp group. Age groups range from five to 11 years old. Group Leads are responsible campers safety and well-being. Leads work with and support specialists who plan and lead program-specific activities, by ensuring smooth transitions between activities as well as planning and implementing additional activities not provided by specialists. Leads will ensure the objectives of the Ann Arbor YMCA Ypsilanti Day Camps are met, creating a positive and engaging environment for camp. REQUIRED: Concussion Prevention; PREFERRED: Lifeguard Certification, CATCH Training SPORTS SPECIALIST LEVEL 2 FULL-TIME Under the supervision of the Youth Community Program Coordinator and Site Director, the Sports Camp Lead is responsible for the direct oversight of the YMCA sports camps at EMU, including supervision of campers and staff. The incumbent should have knowledge of and be able to plan and implement games and activities in the following sports: basketball, flag football, soccer and baseball. REQUIRED: Concussion Prevention, CATCH Training ARTS AND CRAFTS SPECIALIST LEVEL 2 FULL-TIME Under the supervision of the Youth Community Program Coordinator and Site Director, the Arts and Crafts Specialist is responsible for the planning and implementation of Arts and Crafts at camp. The incumbent should have knowledge of and be able to lead games and activities in fine arts, incorporating the session s theme. Activities can include, but are not limited to the following areas: painting, drawing/sketching, model clay, friendship bracelets, crocheting, sewing, dance and more. During times there are no arts and crafts activities, the incumbent will support Group Leads with other elements of camp. REQUIRED TRAINING: Concussion Prevention; PREFERRED TRAINING: Lifeguard Certification, CATCH Training DISCOVERY KIDS SPECIALIST LEVEL 2 FULL-TIME Under the supervision of the Youth Community Program Coordinator and Site Director, the Discovery Kids Specialist is responsible for the planning and implementation of STEM activities at camp. The incumbent should have knowledge of various aspects of STEM and be able to incorporate the session s theme into fun and engaging experiments and activities. During times there are no Discovery Kids activities, the incumbent will support Group Leads with other elements of camp. REQUIRED: Concussion Prevention; PREFERRED: Lifeguard Certification, CATCH Training TEAM-BUILDING SPECIALIST LEVEL 2 FULL-TIME Under the supervision of the Youth Community Program Coordinator and Site Director, the Teambuilding Specialist is responsible for the development and implementation of day camp teambuilding activities for all ages. Teambuilding is an important aspect of camp and activities should incorporate the following elements: character development through the Y s Core Values, coordination and cooperation, sportsmanship, empathy and social justice. During times there are no teambuilding activities, the incumbent will support Group Leads with other elements of camp. REQUIRED TRAINING: Concussion Prevention, CATCH Training; PREFERRED TRAINING: Lifeguard Certification GROUP COUNSELOR LEVEL 1 FULL-TIME Under the supervision of the Youth Community Program Coordinator, Site Director and Group Lead, each group counselor is responsible for the delivery of camp directly to the campers in their group, based on age. This includes direct supervision, safety and enjoyment of campers. Group Counselors assist the Group Leads and/or specialists in program and activity delivery. All volunteer opportunities have potential to meet internship requirements. YMCA DAY CAMP READERS Campers spend 30-minutes engaged in quiet reading. Counselors and volunteers are available to assist with reading and helping children to build confidence and attain reading goals. YMCA DAY CAMP SECOND LANGUAGE GUIDE Assist campers and families with limited English proficiency at day camp. Potentially translate day camp materials, assist with registration and day camp operations. YMCA DAY CAMP PHOTOGRAPHER / SOCIAL MEDIA Campers and families are looking for a way to document their summer adventures. If you are a photographer with your own digital SLR camera, looking to gain experience and build your portfolio, this is a great way to do so. Help us capture the magic of camp.
