3 Eastern Districts Rally 24 th 27 th October The venue for this was 10 k s from Gisborne at the Polo Grounds. There were a range of campers, caravans and buses from the following clubs: 10 Gisborne, 1 Wairoa, 7 Hawkes Bay and 1 CCNZ Vice President (Waikato) The event was officially opened by Gisborne City Deputy Mayor Rehette Stoltz. Then the president of the Polo grounds gave us a brief explanation on the game. Gee what big mega bucks needed if you want to play. Multiple horses needed as the game is very hard going. We were hoping they were able to put on a practice game as the season was just starting but due to the rain we had overnight they were unable to do this. Sunday dawned a nice fine but cold start. Most were up early to partake in the pancake breakfast which was cooked by Rex, Delys and Richard of the Gisborne Club. The evening we had lots of fun playing games. Each evening a different club provided the entertainment. Saturday evening was by Hawkes Bay. One of their members taught us how and had us do Scottish/international dancing. Swinging our partner to the left, dozzie doe, and much more. Lots of fun was had. Monday came round way too fast and it was now time to have Allan Dale (CCNZ Vice President) to close the weekend. Morning teas were then provided and it was time to pack up and head home.

8 FAR NORTH CARAVAN CLUB Ahipara Holiday Park : 3rd,4th and 5th October. As we drove over the Mangamukas we spotted blue sky way up North. That was a heartening sight. We arrived (quite late) at the camp to see four members already set up. Later in the evening Morris arrived. Saturday dawned cold with a very strong southwesterly with scattered to heavy showers. We assembled in the camp building for morning tea. Barry and Elvie arrived then closely followed by Murray and Rosie just in time for morning tea. As usual the laughter peeled out and around the room. We received a welcome visit from Bertha Bell. It was lovely to see her again. After morning tea everyone went off to do what they had planned to do while up in this part of the North. As we were dining out at the Bay View Restaurant for dinner, Harry and Yvonne collected a menu for us to peruse. The idea of stone cooking generated great discussions. Afternoon tea found us all back in the camp building (out of the wind). Once more there was interesting discussions taking place and of cause more peels of laughter. A big thank you to Harry and Murray for transporting us to the restaurant. The scene from the window was very wild and woolly but magnificent. Those who had stone cooking meals enjoyed the experience. In particular Peter. He kept calling to Bev saying he was cooking his own meal. The food was delicious. The deserts were scrumptious and the hosts were very hospitable. Another great evening had by all. Sunday morning was an early start for some members watching the All Blacks be pipped in the last few minutes of the game by South Africa. Morning tea was another lavish affair with a wonderful selection of eats. The club meeting was held and the chairperson was Barry. A new member, Morris Mckinnon was nominated to join. Welcome Morris. Gisborne Caravan & Camping Club Tatapouri Rally August Tatapouri Motor Camp is a holiday park located just 10 minutes from Gisborne on State Highway 35, arguably one of New Zealand s greatest coastal highways. 11 vans braved the winter conditions and there were 2 visiting vans. The camp hadn t changed much since our last stay. There are fantastic surfing breaks over the hill at Makorori Beach and plenty of game fishing adventures to experience at Arial Reef, just four miles offshore. For visitors to this area there are Stingray feeding tours nearby to the camp Tolaga Bay Rally September
9 Situated 45 Ks from Gisborne. An easy road to travel. 9 vans in camp. The weather turned on the showers, which lasted most of Saturday. Woke up Sunday morning to the sun, so that was good. All enjoyed the weekend and we all worked around the weather. Great to see so many come up for the weekend. Wairata October This camp is situated almost half way through the Waioeka Gorge. To locate this property google Wairata Station Farm Stay. To get to the property you turn off the main road and go down a dusty gravel road. Not far away (on the main road) is a place called Living Waters which does morning teas. A little away from the camp (on the main road) is the historical Tauranga Bridge to visit. While we were there a chap came in and put up a small helicopter. It flew over us and around the camping area. Mary Redpath came down to watch. It was an advertising photographer taking photos of the camping area. These are going to be shown on You Tube. Check it Wairata Station Farm Stay on google. From there you can click on their youtube video where you can see our club camping there. Waikato Caravan Club Athenree Hot Springs & Holiday Park 26th - 28th September 2014 Members were warmly welcomed by our hosts as we arrived and set up camp on Friday afternoon at Athenree. This is always a peaceful and tranquil spot to enjoy a relaxing weekend. We spent a pleasant time catching up on news of one another over afternoon tea while sitting in the sunshine. Later happy hour was spent at the barbeque area, as the afternoon weather cooled down. On Saturday morning after morning tea there was time for folks to spend walking, swimming, biking or driving to various places locally. After lunch June organized a visit to Athenree Homestead, a lovely historical kauri homestead built in 1875 by Hugh and Adela Stewart who along with their 9 year old son and Hugh's parents Captain Mervyn and Mrs Stewart travelled on the sailing ship Lady Jocelyn from Ireland to New Zealand, to help form the only planned Irish settlement worldwide. Hugh and Adela balloted a block of land which they named Athenree. The history of this interesting estate and area was told to us by one of the volunteers of the Athenree Homestead Trust, a group of
10 volunteers who have worked tirelessly over many years to restore the Homestead to its former glory after it had fallen into disrepair. There is still much to be done to complete the restoration. Funding required for this is huge, and The Trust is kept busy raising money. This was a most enjoyable outing, and we all appreciated the opportunity to learn about the history of Athenree. After arriving back at camp we were treated to a special cake to celebrate the 61st wedding anniversary of Dot and Gordon. Congratulations to you both! June had arranged for the RSA courtesy bus to arrive at camp to transport us all to the RSA Restaurant for the evening. A tasty meal was devoured then the courtesy van transported us home again to our vans. Sunday morning the sun was shining after soft rain over night. We sat in the sunshine for morning tea. Our sincere thanks were expressed to June and Keith for running a most enjoyable rally. Rally at Little Waipa October 2014 Friday Arrived just before lunch. A nice welcome which soon turned into lunch outside under a rather threatening cloud canopy. It was good to catch up with everyone and greet new arrivals after afternoon tea a few spots of rain saw us all move to vans. Some gathered together for Happy Hour Saturday Up at 8am and holy moly, our next door neighbours Neville & Raewyn were kitting up to ride their bikes into the distance and actually went as far as Arapuni Dam some 5.7 km away. The weather was cloudy but fine so morning tea was outside in the warm, still weather. Allan had to take off all of a sudden to dash after Judith who had missed the turn off on her bike (next time Allan stay with her and stop showing off your male strength). They had gone as far as the Bells, good on them, even if they have electronic assistance. Lunch saw most of us gather outside. We had observed a BBQ being set up when we went for a ramble, but didn t expect the recipients to be nigh on 100 motorcyclists who roared in to upset our peace. There was nothing for it but to go and have a look at the many and varied English/Yank machines before they took off. Maurice exchanged some words of wonderment to a chap who had
only had a hip replacement 4 weeks earlier. Another was a wheelchair user and another nearly a wheelchair user as he demonstrated to us all how to come off by showing off. Back at camp saw the group disperse because of a shower. Still raining at Happy Hour, which did not deter us as we gathered under two awnings to pass the time and swap stories. Sunday The rain had stopped and patches of blue sky heralded the day. 11 Report CCNZ AGM Rally Ngongotaha 31 October 2 November 2014 Friday Arrived in overcast but fine weather to join other Waikato members tethered to the power boxes and avoiding the ducks and their droppings. We all went to the hall for happy hour to chat with members of other clubs, which went on until news time, most returning to their van or having Fish & Chips in the hall. The National Rally will be at Putorino Sports Ground at Easter Cost $35 per person. Forms will come out shortly. A good deal has been arranged with Camper Care for Insurance on vans. Newsletter will be by each 3 months. Saturday; Lunch and afternoon tea was outside in the warm sunny weather moving to the hall for happy hour followed by sausages, onions and bread provided by CCNZ. By 8pm most had drifted back to their vans. Sunday Lovely day, too good to go home. We gathered for morning tea before heading home. An enjoyable rally and great to meet up with friends from other clubs. ************** Notice found in classroom we used while rallying at a school.
