This park is in southeastern Tennessee, near Pikeville on the Cumberland Plateau about 70 miles north of Chattanooga. The SEFTC is a coalition of most all the hiking and trail maintenance organizations in the Southeast, representing over 40 such clubs from Florida to Virginia and Kentucky. The coalition leadership has planned a fun and informative four days. There will be numerous trailrelated workshops led by experts in the field. A variety of hikes are planned, both inside this 25,000-acre state park and in the surrounding state/protected areas of the Cumberland Plateau. Trail fellowship and a wide exchange of ideas are part of the offering. Special speakers and entertainment will be yours each evening. Recent Hike & Event Reports Rhododendron Trail Hike June 3, Sunday Eight CHC members and six guests enjoyed this trail by the Ocoee River. After hiking the trail, we walked over to the Whitewater Center where we browsed around and had ice cream and cold drinks. There were many white rhododendrons blooming, but we didn t see any purple (catawbiense) rhododendron in flower. There were many rafters and kayakers on the river, and some bicyclists were on the trail. Several people were picnicking along the river and in the shelters. 4

5 Guest hikers included Laura and Tom Hertz, Amy Cass, Kendra Slack, Caitlyn Casteel, and Cathy Doss. Member hikers included Karen Young, Joe Robison, Martha and Boyd Firestone, Carroll and Carol Guhne, Belinda Mantooth and hike leader Jane Bohannon, for a total of fourteen hikers. The hike picture is shown below. There was no club meeting in June. Cherokee Hiking Club Meeting Minutes 5
