1 Open Bible Central Kids Camp Leader s Planning Pack Dear Student Ministry Leader, It s camp time again! We are doing a number of things differently this year. Please note these changes. You have been sent a sample brochure, student registration form, poster, and staff application. If you need more, they are available to download / print from openbiblecentral.org/kids-camp. If you do not have access to a color printer or if yours does a terrible job, just info@openbiblecentral.org a request of what you need, along with the quantity and your mailing address. We will get it sent out to you immediately. Kids camp is designed for students who have completed 2 nd, 3 rd, or 4 th grades. If your student just completed 5ht grade, you have the option of Kids s camp or Youth camp. In the meantime, if you have any questions, start by going to our kids leader Facebook page. 2 WHAT IS IN THIS PACKET? ü How to Plan Your Trip to Camp This Summer checklist. This is a practical list of things to do in order to bring a group to Kids Camp. ü Maps / Driving Directions to Wildwood Hills Ranch in St. Charles, IA. ü Camp Rules / Guidelines. These are the basic guidelines that we stress with campers and staff. ü Camp Schedule. There is a tentative schedule for Kids Camp. The schedule that will be handed out and posted at camp will be the official camp schedule (it may include variations from the one in this packet). ü A master copy of the Staff Application. Please use this to make a number of copies for potential camp staff from your church. Please note that we require all camp staff 18 years of age and older to provide us with a background check. Please see instructions on Staff Application page. The registration fee is $75 per leader. We encourage the local church to help applicants with this fee.

3 HOW TO PLAN YOUR TRIP TO CAMP THIS SUMMER q Confirm that you re looking at this list right now. Go ahead and check off that you have it. It feels good to get things accomplished doesn t it? q Make sure that you have the camp dates on the church calendar. Kids camp is July 30-August 2, Camp begins with registration at 11:00 am on Monday and ends around 12:45 pm on Thursday. q Find the drivers and vehicles that you will need for bringing kids to camp. q Hang the promotional posters and have brochures available. You may want to do a direct mailing to each family. We have provided you with samples. If you need more, go to openbiblecentral.org/kids-camp. q Begin regularly announcing and promoting camp. Use your church bulletin, newsletter, announcement times, and anything else you can imagine. q Pass out copies of the staff application forms to those interested in working at camp. Included in your packet is a staff application packet. q Make a copy of the Head Lice Policy, have your senior pastor read/sign then get it to Central Region. Kids registration forms will not be accepted until the signed Lice Policy has been received. q Have parents turn in registration forms to you. o Registration deadline - We need to have registration forms received at the regional office no later than July 20. o Late Registration - If forms are received after July 20, that camper will be required to pay a $25 late registration fee and will not receive a camp T-shirt. o Refunds are not provided on individual camp registrations but name changes for the same gender are allowed up until July 28 at noon. o No registrations will be accepted after July 26 at noon. This includes campers and dorm staff. q Remember - we need you to provide at least one (1) counselor for every eight kids you send to camp. We fill our staff positions as early as possible and once we have reached our limit, we are done. Counselors should apply early to ensure you have someone from your church with your students. q Bring the appropriate funds to pay your group s balance in full at the time you register for camp.

4 MAPS / DRIVING DIRECTIONS Registration begins at 11:00am on Monday, July 30. Please plan on arriving no later than 11:30am. Wildwood Hills Ranch: 2552 Union Lane St Charles, Iowa Ph: Wildwood is located 20 miles south of Des Moines - just 4.5 miles west of I-35 at the St. Charles exit (Exit 52) on highway G50, or 1.5 miles south of Winterset on highway P71 and east 8 miles on highway G50.

5 CAMP RULES / GUIDELINES Campers must observe the boundaries of the camp. In each dorm and at various areas around the camp there are maps of the campgrounds. There are also signs that let you know where the boundaries are. There are to be no girls close to the guys cabins and vice-versa. No one is to leave the campgrounds without permission from the Camp Director or Camp Coordinator. Stuff you should not bring to camp. The following items are not allowed at camp: tobacco, narcotics, alcohol, weapons of any kind, pornography, fireworks, or other combustible materials. If you possess any of these items, you have the opportunity to turn them in immediately following camper orientation. If they are found later it will be cause for immediate dismissal from camp. Also phones, CD players, ipods, MP3 players, clock radios, etc. are not allowed at camp. They may be turned in and will be returned to you at the end of camp. Dress Code. Everyone must wear shoes when walking on the grounds. Boys Shirts must be worn at all times, except in the lake. Your shorts need to stay up around your waist. For swimming, guys must wear swim trunks that stay up, no speedos and no cut offs. Girls Your shirt and pants should touch. Your shorts or skirts should be at least midthigh. For swimming, ladies must wear modest one-piece suits. If you have a two-piece, you must wear a t-shirt over it. Staying in dorms at night (not sneaking out). Our desire is to protect students and provide the safest possible environment. Anyone found outside of their dorm building after hours will immediately forfeit the remainder of his or her camp experience. No warnings. No exceptions. No refunds. Social Skills. Fighting or verbally abusing anyone, camper or staff, is not permitted. Public displays of affection are not allowed during camp. Use the brain God gave you. When you make decisions during camp week, use common sense and treat other people, and these grounds the way you would want to be treated.

7 HEAD LICE POLICY We want your experience at Kids Camp to be a positive one. For this reason, each camper and staff member will be checked for head lice upon arrival at camp. If nits or lice are present, they will be treated with over-the-counter lice treatment. If the lice infestation is too great or there is a large amount of campers with confirmed cases, the camp director may choose to send campers home for treatment. If nits or lice are found, there will be a $ fee to cover the cost of treatment. Please take the following precautionary measures to make sure that your group is ready for camp. 1. Group leaders should inform the parents of the head lice policy. 2. Group leaders should do a head lice check on their campers and leaders two weeks before camp. 3. Group Leaders should do a head lice check of the group on the day of departure to make sure no one in the group is infested. 4. All bedding and loose items such as pillows, stuffed animals, etc. should be placed in a large trash bag, for each camper, to be brought to camp. What are they? Head lice are small grayish-white insects, which are found in the hair, behind the ears, and on the nape of the neck. They live on human blood and their bites cause itching and scratching. These bites can lead to infection. How can they be recognized? The adult louse is about the size of a sesame seed. They attach their eggs (called nits) to strands of hair close to the scalp. Nits are tiny, pearl gray, oval-shaped specks that are attached firmly to the hair. These may hatch in 1 week, but have been known to survive for 10 days. Frequent scratching of the head is usually the first clue of infestation. There are many helpful videos and information available online to help you check for, identify, and treat head lice. I understand that if any of my campers or staff members are brought to camp with head lice that they will be treated and our church will be charged a $ fee per treated person to cover the cost of time and treatment.
