Whiteside was sworn in as Mayor of the Town. Sheila Franklin, representing Town Council District #1, and Eddie Henderson, representing District #4, were sworn in also. At the December Town Council meeting, December 11, 2017: A Public Hearing was held to consider a proposal from the City of Hendersonville Water Department to locate a pump station at the corner of Woodhill Drive and Hwy. 25 (Hendersonville Road). Eric Rufa, Planning and Zoning Director, reported that this proposal met zoning requirements and had been approved by the Town Planning Board members. This pump station is intended to boost water pressure for the north end of Henderson County. After consideration by council, the proposal was approved. Ben Cathey, representing McGill Associates, outlined street resurfacing projects in the Town as well as resurfacing of the main drive into the Fletcher Park. Six Town streets were recommended for resurfacing under the Powell Bill funding. Council members discussed the establishment of a student recognition program, an affordable housing task force, and ways to honor out-going Mayor Bill Moore. The student recognition program and affordable housing task force were tabled. Several different ways to honor former Mayor Bill Moore were discussed, including renaming Fletcher Community Park after him and having a Bill Moore Day. You are encouraged to contact us with your questions and comments. info@fletchernc.org Visit our web site at: From the Tax Collector 2017 Property taxes are due by January 5, Interest begins to accrue January 6, 2018, but January 6th falls on a Saturday and interest will not be posted until Monday, January 8, Payments may be mailed to 300 Old Cane Creek Road, or paid in person at Town Hall, Monday Friday, 8 a.m. 5 p.m. A drop box is located for after hours payments in the south side parking lot of Town Hall. It is monitored by surveillance cameras 24 hours a day. Or a resident may view and/or pay their Town taxes online. At the Town s website: go to the How do I? link at the top right side of the home page. You will need your roll number or account from your tax bill and your bank routing and checking account numbers. The Town of Fletcher does not accept credit or debit cards. If funds are held in escrow to pay taxes, it is still your responsibility that the taxes are paid. Delinquent taxes are subject to garnishment of wages, attachment of bank accounts, levy on personal property and foreclosure proceedings. Delinquent accounts may also be submitted for Debt Setoff Collection against any income tax refund money to which you may be entitled.

Dial 211 or go to nc211.org! Calvary Episcopal Church Food Pantry The Food Pantry opened in April of 2009 seeking to help those in need of food. Members of Calvary Episcopal Church felt called to organize and open the Food Pantry, but it could not operate without support from our whole community. In addition to Calvary, other local churches, businesses, individuals, service organizations, and philanthropic groups make the Food Pantry possible. If you are making New Year s resolutions, perhaps you would like to include volunteering with this food pantry in your plans! Volunteer Opportunities Saturday (25 volunteers) Welcome and sign in clients Personal shopping assistance. Food distribution. Carry-out. Re-packaging of bulk items into smaller containers (e.g. detergent, shampoo, sugar, flour). Or each week when you do your shopping, remember to pick up a few extra food items to donate to this cause. For more information, contact: Calvary Episcopal Church 2840 Hendersonville Road, Fletcher NC TRASH TALK PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT Jabbo Pressley - Director Please follow the guidelines for trash disposal using the roll-out cans! All trash must be bagged within the roll-out trash receptacle! This is to prevent trash from blowing out when the can is lifted into the truck. If Public Works employees discover the contents are not bagged, they will tag the can and not pick up the contents! Do not leave bags of trash outside of the rolling carts or leave the carts in the roadway. Public Works employees have encountered a continuing problem with residents leaving loose trash or additional bags or boxes of trash placed beside the rolling trash cans. Due to recent high winds, employees have been physically laying the trash cans down to keep the wind from blowing them into the road. We ask that you write your address on the lid of your trash cart with an indelible marker to help you identify your cart. You may now request a brush pickup online! Go to the Town website - and you may access the link either from the How do I link at the top or through the Public Works department link. Brush pick up does start on Monday mornings (unless it is a holiday) and pick up requests must be in before Monday morning. Christmas tree pickup will begin January 2, 2018, and will continue each Monday through January. Put in a work order online or call to place a work order for pickup before Monday of each week. Winter is beginning and cold and snow and ice will come! This department does provide snow and ice control on Town maintained streets. Crews will initially concentrate on opening Town streets for emergency personnel and equipment and it may take up to 36 hours to effectively perform this service on all streets. Each winter event is unique and actions taken for each storm are directly related to the amount of precipitation, ground and air temperatures and the pending forecast. And a successful battle against the winter weather requires the cooperation and assistance of the citizens! So in the event of inclement weather, please don t park on Town streets. This will help crews travel through streets and clean snow more efficiently and safely. Trash pickup and recycling schedules may be altered. Please have patience! As soon as roads are clear for vehicles and travel, this department will make decisions as to rescheduling trash pickup! Leaf pickup has ended! The Town will not pick up leaves again until the first 2 Mondays in April. If you have any questions about the services offered by Public Works, please call and leave a message along with your telephone number. Someone will return your call!

Mondays, January 8 (1-2pm) The Avid Reader Book Club: We will discuss The Little Old Lady Who Broke All the Rules by Catharina Ingelman-Sundberg. Please read the book and come prepared to discuss it. Note: This group meets the first Monday of the month most months. Given the library is closed the first Monday of January for the New Year s Day holiday, the group will meet the 2 nd Monday of January. 6 PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT Father-Daughter Dance Tickets on Sale in January! The Town of Fletcher will host its 17 th Annual Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, January 27 th from 11:30 a.m.-2p.m. at Veritas Christian Academy. The Parks and Recreation department is currently seeking chefs interested in fighting for the 2018 title of Best Chili in Fletcher! Awards will be given in the following categories: Best Overall Chili, Best Individual Chili, Best Business Chili, Best Table Décor and People s Choice. All types of chili will be accepted including traditional chili, white chili and vegetarian chili. If you think you have the best Chili in the Fletcher area, please download an application at or stop by Fletcher Town Hall. Application should be returned to the Parks and Recreation department no later than January 19. This event is free and the public is invited to taste all the different flavors Fletcher has to offer. Parks and Recreation staff will be on site accepting donations for the Fletcher Park Development Fund which helps improve Fletcher parks. The Town of Fletcher will host its popular Father-Daughter Dance on Saturday, February 10 th at Calvary Episcopal Church. This is a special opportunity for dads to spend time with their daughters enjoying music, dancing and refreshments. Each daughter will receive a flower, photo by a professional photographer and the opportunity to make a valentine craft. Tickets will be on sale to Fletcher residents (tax payers) beginning Wednesday, January 10. Non-residents may buy tickets beginning Wednesday, January 17. Two dances will be offered, a 3:30 p.m. dance and a 6:30 p.m. It is recommended that children 5 and under attend the 3:30 p.m. dance. Tickets for Fletcher Residents are $16 per dad and $6 for each daughter. Non-resident ticket prices are $18 per dad and $8 for each daughter.
