THE UPHAM BEACH ROCK GROIN INSTALLATION The Upham Beach Rock Groin installation will begin soon. The project will remove the yellow bags from the 5 locations currently on the beach and replace them with 4 new rock T-Groins. The project will be managed by Pinellas County and the awarded contractor has indicated that they intend to begin work on June 1 st and complete work ahead of schedule as early as the end of November The rock is being barged in and will be delivered from the beach side and not over our roads. BECOME A CERTIFIED LIFEGUARD- Participants must be 15 years or older and must complete a pre-test in order to continue in the class. The pre-test consists of treading water for 2 minutes using legs only, swimming 300 yards without stopping and swim 20 yards, surface dive and retrieve a 10 pound brick from the bottom, resurface and swim back to the starting point and exit pool. The class will be on April 22, 23, 29 & 30; May 13, 14, 20 & 21. Participates must attend all four days. Classes will meet from 8am-4pm and the cost is $160 St. Pete Beach Residents/ $180 Non-Resident. For more information visit our website at or call the Aquatic Center at WORLD TAI CHI & QIGONG DAY AT HORAN PARK Celebrate unity though breath and movement by practicing Tai Chi and Qigong, an ancient Chinese health care system that integrates slow graceful movements, breathing techniques and deep relaxation. A free class will be held on Saturday, April 29th at Horan Park, 7701 Boca Ciega Dr. from 10am- 11am. We also have Qigong every Tuesday from 9am-10am at the Community Center, 7701 Boca Ciega Dr. The cost is only $5. For more information call or visit SUMMER CAMPS FOR KIDS AT THE ST. PETE BEACH COMMUNITY CENTER Registration starts March 21st at the St. Pete Beach Community Center, 7701 Boaca Ciega Drive, for full and half day summer camps. Programs are being offered for children completed Kindergarten through 6th grade. Our full day camp program will keep kids entertained all summer long with weekly field trips, swimming, and indoor & outdoor activities. If your child has a more specific interest we are also offering half-day specialty camps such as Archery, basketball, robotic and more. The City is turning 60 in 2017 and we are celebrating our way through the decades. We will salute our Veterans on MAY 6, s style at Horan Park from 11-5pm in partnership with the Veterans of South Pinellas. On JULY 9,2017, we will celebrate 60 years at a champagne brunch at the Don Cesar Hotel On OCTOBER 6, 2017, we will rock our way through the 90 s at the kick-off concert for the Friday night October concert series in Horan Park from 7-9pm. We will end the year-long celebration on DECEMBER 1, 2017 at the annual tree lighting/ boat parade viewing party in Horan Park from 6-8pm.
