Hours of Operation All Metroparks open daily, 7 a.m. until dark. Admission:. Other hours and fees apply to specific attractions. Programs Metroparks programs and activities encompass a wide variety of interests related to the park district s purpose. Programs are open to everyone. Children must be accompanied by adults unless noted as a drop-off program. If you have a disabling condition and would like information and support for accessibility to programs, services, facilities or applying for a job at Metroparks, call Metroparks of the Toledo Area is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate in employment. Programs and services are available to any member of the public. Metroparks Trails Trails in each of the Metroparks offer a variety of distances and experiences, from winding dirt paths through the woods and prairies, to hard-surface all-purpose trails suitable for bicycling and skating. Oak Openings Preserve also has horse trails. 3

4 Special Events 4 Under The Moon 5K Run/Walk Join Metroparks, the Toledo Roadrunners Club and Dave s Running Shop for a special event under the light of the moon. Run against the clock or enjoy a walk on the 3.1 mile trail course. Special lighting will help guide the way but flashlights and headlamps are suggested. This is a fun event for all; there will be no official timing or scoring so go at your own pace. Along with a great Autumn run/walk under the moon, enjoy roaring fire pits, apple cider, s mores, music and learn from Metroparks Naturalist What sings in the night? This is an Autumn Adventure program. Tuesday, October 7, 6 to 8:30 p.m. Secor, National Center for Nature Photography Fee: $5 Reservations Tombstone Bicycle Tour Take a fun and not-too-scary tour of the countryside in this Halloween-themed bike ride. Wear your costume (and your bike helmet!). The well-marked, 38-mile route winds past seven cemeteries: Immaculate Conception, Sharples, Swanton, Byrd Family, Winslow, Birchfield Family and Wolfinger. Riders will be provided with a map and route notes. There will be a SAG Wagon in the event of a breakdown or injury. Lunch stop at Oak Openings and cider stop at MacQueens Orchard included with registration. Sponsored by Maumee Valley Adventurers. Saturday, October 25, registration 11 a.m. to noon Secor, National Center for Nature Photography Details and online registration at MVAdventurers.org Family Haunted Bike Ride Especially designed for families with children 12 and under. Come dressed in your bike safe costume (with helmet) and join in the fun of this family bike event, which follows a 3 to 5 mile trail all within Oak Openings Preserve. Saturday, October 25, registration 10:30 a.m. Oak Openings, Mallard Lake parking lot Fee: $5 Online registration at MVAdventurers.org The Tombstone Tour is a 38-mile ride through fall color (in costume, if you d like). Kids will enjoy the Family Haunted Ride. Trail To A Sale Let Metroparks take the chaos out of your holiday shopping this year by bringing several direct sales companies to you. You are sure to find a gift for everyone, and in any price range. Demonstrations and How Tos throughout the event. Unique raffle items from each vendor. Light refreshments provided. All Proceeds from this event supports Metroparks Volunteer Trail Patrol. Just drop in, no reservations necessary. Wednesday, October 29, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wildwood Preserve, Ward Pavilion Holidays In The Manor House: Volunteers and Members Preview Be the first to see this year s holiday decorations in the Manor House at this special preview just for Members and Volunteers. This Toledo tradition has been delighting visitors of all ages for over 30 years. Friday, December 5, 4 to 7 p.m.

5 A Cup Of Christmas: Holiday Tea At Stranleigh Enjoy a delightful Tea At Stranleigh among the splendor of Holidays in the Manor House. Seating for this new event is limited and reservations must be pre paid. Guests will enjoy an extra delicious morning tea, with musical entertainment, followed by a leisurely stroll of the fabulously decorated Manor House before it is opened to the public. A charming way to kick off your holiday season in a spectacular setting. Prepaid reservations will start Saturday, November 10 at 9 a.m., by calling Presented by the Manor House Volunteers. Friday, December 5, 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Fee: $25 Holidays In The Manor House: Runs December 6 through December 14 Ring in the holidays with northwest Ohio s most festive celebration. For over 30 years volunteers have decorated the Manor House at Wildwood for all to enjoy. Stroll through the home and see why over 10,000 of your neighbors make this an annual holiday event. Saturday, December 6- Sunday, December 14, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Holidays Café & Craft Show: Runs December 6 Through December 14 Finish your holiday visit to the Manor House with a short walk to the Holiday Cafe and Craft Show in Metroparks Hall. Warm-up with hot chocolate, coffee, hot dogs, cookies and fresh popcorn. Special handmade gifts are for sale from local craftsmen. Cafe is sponsored and presented by Volunteers in Parks. Proceeds benefit Metroparks special programs and initiatives. Saturday, December 6- Sunday, December 14, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Festivities In The Farmhouse: Family Fun Get inspired for the holidays at the Farmhouse located at the East Entrance to Wildwood Preserve. Activities include unique, creative, fun holiday crafts for kids. Readers from Read for Literacy will be in the house reading children s holiday stories. Santa just may stop by to visit as well. Apple cider and snacks provided. Be the first to explore the renovated Secor facilities from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. or tour the Oak Openings corridor and paddle at Eber Road Day Use Area. Sunday, October 5, Noon to 1 p.m. Secor, National Center for Nature Photography Reservations Family Storytime (Ages 2 to 5) Join the Oregon Branch Library and Metroparks for an inclusive storytime for families with a focus on early literacy skills. These programs feature tales and trails, nature-related stories followed by a guided walk. Enjoy books, rhymes, music and more in this lively program. For children and their adult companion. 7 Autumn Adventure With The Maumee Valley Volksporters Walk for the health of it at your own pace choosing a pre planned 5 or 10 kilometer route. Registration is at arrival for this free event. Enjoy free guided or self-guided tours every weekend at this 32,000-square-foot, Depression-era home and learn about the region s rich history. Plan some extra time to visit the rare Ellen Biddle Shipman garden, Frank Stranahan exhibit and the Manor House library. Open April - October, Tuesday - Friday and Sundays, Noon to 5 p.m.. National Center For Nature Photography (NCNP) Exhibits from the nation s premier nature photographers hang alongside images by local talent in this gallery. The National Center for Nature Photography at Secor Metropark is the only center of its kind in the country. See Nature Photography listing for workshops and special exhibits. Oak Grove School Meet a 19th century schoolmarm and experience how much education has changed in the past 100 years. The one-room Oak Grove School, located at the East Entrance to Wildwood Preserve, is the perfect place to spend time reminiscing. Call for reservations. See History listing for programs. The Canal Experience Make a reservation to float back to 1876 aboard a replica canal boat at The Canal Experience at Providence Metropark. This is the only site in Ohio where mules still pull a boat through an original 19th century lock. Plan some extra time to stop by the 140-year-old Isaac Ludwig Mill to watch the power of water grind grain and saw logs. Side Cut Explorer Ride along the banks of the Maumee River and down the canal towpath in Side Cut Metropark s open air trolley. Night Life Naturally At Stranleigh! What s special about the natural world at Wildwood, and how has it changed since the Stranahan estate? Bundle up for a walk about history and natural history as we explore the park s wild night life! Track nocturnal wildlife, call owls and gaze at a sky full of stars. No dogs permitted. Dr. Insecta Is Back! From N.A.S.A. to nature and science centers... school assemblies to parks and recreation facilities, Dr. Insecta has enthralled audiences of all ages across America! Experience real entomology magic as Dr. Insecta introduces you to some of the largest live insects on the planet. Bug Lab is an interactive enrichment program that entertains, educates and desensitizes fears we have about these incredible creature. For more information call October 5, 11 a.m. to Noon Secor, Secor Room Preschool Pioneers (Ages 3 to 5) Bring your 3 to 5 year old to the little cabin in the big swamp to learn one of history s fun activities. Register child only. Parent must accompany their child at program. Children hear a story and learn the four basic shapes used to create them: circle, square, rectangle, and triangle. Children will get to piece their own quilt square with the four basic shapes. Friday, November 14, 10 to 11:30 a.m. St...Art With Nature: Shape/Patterns (Ages 3 to 5) Little artists will look at patterns and how nature uses them. The little artist will play and create with patterns. St Art with Nature is a hands on experience designed to cultivate a love for art while experiencing nature and the outdoors. Register child only. Parent must accompany their 3 to 5 year old child at program. Be an advocate for animals and help protect their homes! Help put a stop to shrinking habitat and join us in restoring their land. Scouts will complete all steps to earn their Animal Habitats Skill Building Badge. Thursday, October 9, 4 to 6 p.m. Wildwood Preserve, Metz Visitor Center Fee: $5 (Metroparks Members $4) Reservations Calling All Scouts: Webelos Forester From the soil beneath your feet to the leaves at the top of the trees, the forest is an extremely important type of ecosystem. Come explore our local forests and learn about the different plants and animals that call the forest their home during a one hour nature hike. Drop off program. Rain or shine, dress for weather. Thursday, November 13, 4 to 5:15 p.m. Secor, NCNP parking lot Fee: $3 Reservations Outdoor Skills Paddling 101: Crash Course For those who weren t able to attend our Paddling 101 series, or just aren t ready to give it up get a crash course in kayaking, in just one afternoon! Join use for beginner-friendly instruction that would be helpful review for even the most experienced paddler. After one hour of instruction, participants will have the opportunity to practice their skill independently. Participants must be at least 12 years old; minors must be accompanied by an adult. Wednesday, October 1, 5 to 7 p.m. Side Cut, Silver Lake parking lot Fee: $8 (Metroparks Members $6) Reservations Full Moon Geocaching Enjoy a night of fun geocaching and discovering the Oak Openings after dark by the light of the full moon. Dress warm and bring your own GPS unit and flashlight. A small number of GPS units are available to borrow. Please contact Tammy Saunders at to reserve a unit. Register each participant over three years old. Wednesday, October 8, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Oak Openings Preserve, Mallard Lake parking lot Fee: $3 Reservations Star Struck Away from the light pollution of the big city, enjoy the breathtaking view of the wide open night sky. A naturalist will point out interesting constellations and features, and you ll get a chance to try out our telescope. 13 Overnight Backpacking Adventure Enjoy the unique scenery of the Oak Openings Preserve and discover one of the hidden gems of northwest Ohio on this naturalist-led 15.5 mile overnight backpacking experience. Participants will explore nearly every habitat encompassed in this massive 3700 plus acre park while learning valuable backpacking and camping skills. No backpacking experience necessary. Participants must be 16 or older; all minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian. All meals provided. Limited equipment available to borrow. A pre-trip meeting will be held on the evening of Friday, October 3rd to check gear, talk about the trip and answer any questions. Saturday-Sunday, October 11 and 12, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oak Openings Preserve, Fee: $50 (Metroparks Members $40) Reservations Kids In Kayaks For one afternoon only, we re turning over our brand new kayaks to the kids! We will play some fun kayak games and paddle around the pond looking for wildlife. There will be three sessions with low instructor-to-student ratio. Legal guardian must remain onsite while child is paddling. Register child only; any parents interested in paddling with us should please call. Kids should wear clothes that can get wet, water shoes or sandals. Bring water bottle and sun protection. Oak Openings Corridor (Eber Road, map will be sent with confirmation) Fee: $5 (Metroparks Members $3) Reservations Ages 5 to 7 Sunday, October 12, 1 to 2 p.m. Ages 8 to 11 Sunday, October 12, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Special kayak programs just for kids are planned October 12 at a special place the new Wiregrass Lake Area, a Metroparks property in the Oak Openings Corridor. Camping 101: Winter Camping Basics The end of summer doesn t mean you have to end your outdoor weekend getaways. Join us in learning the basics of planning a cold-weather camping trip, and extend that camping season! Participants must be at least 10 years old and minors must be accompanied by an adult.
