4 INTRODUCTION TABLE OF CONTENTS Welcome to Days With Zahrah, The Book. Over the last eight years our television show has traveled the Bay Area. Our crew has been discovering remarkable neighborhoods, connecting with locals and experiencing life in the great cities that make up the Bay Area. I grew up in San Francisco and am so thankful for this upbringing in the City by the Bay. In the eighties, with a sense that we were all in it together, meaning this thing called life. We grew to love and respect our cultural differences, embracing them to the fullest. My mother s side of the family is from Oakland, so I spent a lot of time in The Town, as we call it, where I am now raising my son Jule. I love Oakland. When I get up on Saturday mornings to go to the Farmer s Market, I am so excited about what I might discover and which neighbors I might en- cultures and families. And the food scene? Well, I could not ask for anything better. Really, I am mesmerized by the entire Bay Area. From the stellar views at the Mira Vista Golf Course to the beautiful wineries along the St. Helena Highway and the ohh so sweet families of deer that roam around the Autobahn Certifed Golf Course at The Little River Inn, you cannot beat living or visiting the Bay Area. In this book, we are including some of our favorite conversations with celebrities like Dr. Maya Angelou and former Speaker of The House, The Honorable Nancy Pelosi. Also, there are some fun and quirky peaks behind the scenes of shoots and events. Finally, what inspired me to do this book is my love for travel. My mother used to take us everywhere around the Bay Area when we were kids. I don t know how she did it or managed it, but she showed my brothers and I so much!! So in this book I have included pictures of some of my family s travels. After all, that s where it all began for me. I hope this book gives you great ideas for places to visit. Ultimately, no matter where you are from or how much you may have in your bank account, I hope this book will help you explore more. It costs nothing to sit and admire the views at Lands End -- a view that lets your eyes glide along with the ocean s ripples and then back along the cliffs. No matter how busy we are, our willingness to take time to explore and rejuvenate ourselves is really what it s all about, I feel.
