1 Presents Beekeeping Tour to Slovenia May, 2017 Plus an optional 3 day International Apitherapy Symposium From May IN PORTOROZ, SLOVENIA Happy New Year from Slovenian Beekeeping! I have put together a very exciting tour for May visiting some of my favorite places and beekeepers! These tours are kept to under 20 people so they are fun and personal. I have attached the May 2017 tour and will have the fall tour out this next week. The fall tour will be two weeks, one week with a concentration of Apitherapy and one week of beekeepers-adventure sports-hiking and local highlights in the area where I used to live which is gorgeous. The May tour will be a 12 day tour with full days visiting several Slovene beekeepers, local sites, wine tastings, a cave and castle and lots, lots more. This is going to be an awesome trip as I have been to several of the places and have put them in this tour as I love going to them and then there are some new places that even I have not been to but I know we will really enjoy them. What is really special about this tour is that we are going to spend two days in Croatia!!!!!!!!!!!! With free time to swim in the Adriatic Sea which is beautiful. We stay in only farmhouses or B & B's that serve local organic foods, all home cooked :-) These are set out in the countryside so its nice and quiet and great for walking. You must be in good physical condition as there is a lot of walking, stairs and light trekking.

2 I have had three very successful tours so far, everyone loved who they met and what they saw and all left knowing a lot more about how to manage the Slovene AZ Hives! Head to Bled, bordered by Austria, this is one of Slovenia s jewels with a gorgeous lake with Bled Castle and a tiny island with an ancient church. We visit a very knowledgeable beekeeper within walking distance of the farmhouse we are staying at. Then visit one who makes miniature bee houses. Dinner and overnight at Povsin Farmhouse. I have been staying at this farmhouse since 1993! 15 May Mon, Day 2 Breakfast. Visit the Beekeeping Museum with antique tools and 600 hand painted bee panels. These panels were used in the 1800 s to decorate their hives. They depicted historical, biblical and folk stories. Then a visit next door to Leckar where they make gingerbread cookies. Next drive to the ancient town of Skofia Loka to visit a local beekeeper. Dinner and overnight at Povsin Farmhouse. 16 May Tues, Day 3 Breakfast. Drive to Velika planina, we take the cable car to the mountain plateau in the center of the Kamnik Alps for light trekking. Then visit a flower park known for its thousands of different flowers. Afterwards we meet with the president of the local beekeeper s association. to taste his honey liquors. Drive to the Styria Region for dinner and overnight at Firbas Farmhouse. This is a favorite of mine.

3 17 May Wed, Day 4 Breakfast. Visit a beekeeper with a unique museum of apiculture. He collects old bee houses. Then to an herb farm, I love this place! Very beautiful garden and two bee houses and a surprise gathering place! She offers homemade bread with 4 incredible toppings! Dinner and overnight at Firbas. 18 May Thurs, Day 5 Breakfast. Visit a pumpkin oil factory, this oil is amazing and great on salads! We will taste several varieties. Then to an open air bee museum featuring an antique round bee house. Off to visit a beekeeper with 600 hives who practices apitherapy with breathing the bee air. Continue to the Jerusalem Wine Road with tasting some great local wines. Dinner and overnight at Firbas. 19 May Fri, Day 6 Breakfast. Visit the Slovenian Beekeepers Association Center, the Assoc. is 140 years old and has 8000 members! The center has a lab, honey extraction room, library, restaurant, bar and store full of beekeeping equipment. There are also several bee houses. Visit a beekeeper for a honey tasting. Dinner and overnight at a local farmhouse. 20 May Sat, Day 7 Breakfast. Visit Andreja, a potter and beekeeper who owns a beautiful apitherapy bee house. She runs the first urban beekeeping club and organizes educational visits for kids with her mobile. We will have a wonderful picnic lunch under a gorgeous old tree! Then to visit Postojna Caves which are amazing and the Predjamski Castle with its incredible setting. Dinner and overnight at a farmhouse. 21 May, Sun, Day 8 Breakfast. Drive to the gorgeous Soca Valley (this is the area where I used to live). First to Bovec to visit a couple that hand paint the bee panels used to decorate your bee houses. Lunch in Most na Soca on the Riverboat Lucia on the incredible Soca River. Captain Dan will entertain us with his tales of the river. Dinner and overnight. 22 May, Mon, Day 9 Breakfast. Off to the coast of Slovenia to visit the Saltpans. Sea salt here is made the same way for the past 700 years. The salt in wonderful, I use it for everything. Then we go to the seaside town of Rovinj, Croatia. Here we will have free time with a chance to swim in the Adriatic Sea! The town is fun to roam around in with many outdoor bars and restaurants. Dinner and overnight in Rovinj.

4 23 May Mon, Day 10 Breakfast. Morning drive to Pula, Croatia, with several Roman monuments. We will visit the famous Roman Forum, Hercules Gate and Twin Gates and the Temple of Augustus. Afternoon visit to the Brioni National Park, the former residence of Tito. Dinner and overnight back in Rovinj. 24 May Wed, Day 11 Breakfast. Then back to Slovenia to visit a beekeeper who specializes in the bee transport system. Then visit a wine cellar that carries my favorite red wine! Dinner and overnight at a farmhouse. 25 May Thu, Final Day Breakfast. Those attending the Apitherapy Symposium will be dropped off at the hotel. The rest will be taken to the airport. I have had three very successful tours in the last year. Each tour has been different but each a wonderful experience!

5 To secure your place, please send a deposit of $750 per person. Full payment due by 9 April. Any cancellations after this date is non-refundable unless the travel agency makes an exception. All accommodations are either farmhouses or B & B s with homecooked meals from local ingredients. If you are vegetarian please let me know, we have 2 on the trip already. For flights, you need to arrive on 14 May around noon. We used Turkish Air on the last trip that was the cheapest flight with a change in Istanbul. The food was very good, flight is a bit longer but the airport was an easy change over. These flights arrive in the evening so you would miss a day OR my suggestion is to leave the USA on 12 May to arrive on the evening of the 13 th, I can arrange a taxi to bring you to the farmhouse at an affordable cost. I will be arriving a few days earlier. This extra night is not included in the price, will be about 50E to include dinner, overnight and breakfast.
