1 The St. Louis Corvette Club Newsletter November 2012 Upcoming Events November 6 November 10 STLCC Monthly Meeting Veterans Day Parade Oil Change Party & Lunch/Dinner November 25 December 1 Fritz s Ice Cream Run Christmas Party Ladies Run The women drove em like they stole em on their annual Ladies Run to Josephine s Tea Room; a wonderful day full of shopping, eating, shopping, driving, shopping and spending time with good friends.

2 2012 Officers President s Column Hello Fellow St. Louis Corvette Club Members, As we quickly approach the end of 2012, there are a few events left on the calendar. We will be electing the board members for 2013 at the November meeting; there is the Veteran s Day parade and oil change party on November 10, the last ice cream run on November 25, and the Christmas Party on December 1. And while all these events will offer much opportunity for friendship, laughter, and of course, food, we will be doing it all with one less familiar face. With the passing of Armynta Craig, we lost a strong spirit, as well as a founding member of our club. Never to hold back on what she was thinking, Armynta was the embodiment of self-expression you never had to wonder just where she was on any given issue or subject. She was one of the first members to welcome Amy and I when we attended our first meeting a couple years ago, walking right up to the two of us, introducing herself, shaking our hands and welcoming us to the group talk about making us feel comfortable and at home. At the ELCO car show in the spring, she took special exception to a crazy Father s Day tie from my daughter, who had convinced me to wear it in public. Armynta gave me a ton of trouble, invited me to sit down with her, and then we snapped the picture on the side of this article. Everyone has an Armynta story, priceless treasures about a special lady I won t soon forget. Lastly, I would like to thank Mary Ann and Ron Hagenow, Rich Doerr, and Dave Horstmeyer for their help and pointers over the last three months. We didn t have much time, yet we did keep things moving while also navigating the venue change for our monthly meetings. It has been fun thanks again for everything along our short-lived way together. Don t forget to save the wave when you are driving the greatest American sports car. P.S. I am still looking for someone to make a motion to install Jet Stream Blue Metallic as the official club color. Any takers, Darla? Michael R. Joining Judy and me at the garden area behind bldg-52 were Rick and Mary Doerr, Gary Murray, Don and Ann Pickles, Mike Kirby, Ron and Mary Ann Haganow. For our newer members, I will tell you what is going on at the JB-VA Hospital, behind Bldg-52. About 7 years ago our club started taking care of a garden behind Bldg-52.since then, our club has planted a beautiful garden area. We have added a couple of fountains, a flag, and some stonework, along with new plants and flowers. With everyone s help, It all looks great. In the spring time, we have a large group from club come together to clean things up, and put in new plants. Then during the summer, we also have club members that show-up weekly to keep the fountains filled and water the plants and flowers. Everyone needs to stop by and see this area, and while there, visit a vet in the garden- there is almost always someone there. They go to the garden just to get out of the hospital, and they really enjoy it. Dues are Due! Once again it is everyone s favorite time of the year DUES PAYMENT! Kudos also to the Howards on the recent wedding of their daughter and the purchase of their th anniversary edition. Carl Ballinger said that tonight is the last chance to put names on a list for hotel rooms for the 2014 Labor Day week-end Caravan to Bowling Green. He reviewed the names already on the list. Old Business Meeting location Mike Zlatic introduced discussion about possible locations. Those who had dinner at Grand Slam Sports Bar and Grill on September 25 thought that the food was great, portions were huge, prices were reasonable and management was very nice. The arrangement seemed more conducive to a meeting and most felt that smoke in the private room was not a problem. Concern was voiced that the room was older and a lingering smoke scent was noticeable. Carl Ballinger said that the owner reported that he has twice the smoke air cleaners as needed in the restaurant. There are two entrances and Carl suggested using the back door entrance to avoid walking through the bar smoke. It was also suggested to possibly meet at Grand Slam off and on rather than each month. Grand Slam would do a buffet for meeting night. Food could also be ordered from the menu but it would take a little longer to prepare those meals. It was suggested that Grand Slam might be more centrally located than Elco. Continued on page 12 11

12 Meeting Minutes, continued from page 11 Members also said that it was important to support ELCO and that it was asking a lot of Mark and Eric to set up for the meeting and all that was involved. Discussion was closed and Ken Barron made a motion to vote on remaining at ELCO or meeting at Grand Slam. Papers were distributed to members and a written vote was taken. Results indicated 16 in favor of meeting at ELCO and 33 in favor of moving to Grand Slam for a total vote count of 49. Therefore, the November 6 meeting will be held at Grand Slam. Carl Ballinger volunteered to help organize the dinner and meeting plans for that evening. Vinyl Clings Ron Hagenow said the club bought 6 extra clings for club use. Additional clings can be ordered directly from Dale Signs on Manchester Road. New Business Newsletter - Mike Zlatic reported that due to family commitments, Amy Zlatic will be relinquishing her position as newsletter editor effective with the December issue. The newsletter is now prepared as a word document and Amy will be able to help a new editor take over the position. Please contact Amy or Mike if you are interested in volunteering for this position.
