District Rally Flier 10 Aluminum Can Drive Info 11 From our Chapter Newsletter Editor David Shipp It s All About The Ride Oh yea,,, and enjoying the little things once you get there! My schedule and work load here at Newsletter Central is so tremendous that it is difficult for us to shut down long enough to make very many weekend rides or events, but lucky for myself, as well as the entire newsletter staff, we have recently been blessed with the privilege of joining some of our other chapter members as they enjoyed themselves at a couple of rallies and throwing strikes at the bowling alley. This past month really kicked off the rally season, I guess, and although we have not gotten to attend every event on the menu, we did get to visit with a lot of friends up in Cabot on the 10th. They had a terrific turn out, even though they were forced to change their rally location from Cabot Junior High North(due to fire damage last summer) to the high school on the South side. But I must say that it was impressive that a good bit of funds that were accumulated that day are going toward helping the teachers and instructors replace personal teaching items that were lost in the fire and help them resume their task of educating their students to the best of their abilities. We wish everyone that was involved the very best and want to thank that wild bunch in Cabot for an enjoyable time. Then, on the 24th., several of us had the chance to ride down to Marshall for the 2007 Region H Rally. You couldn t ask for any better riding weather. Well, you could but you, more than likely, would never see it. It was great. Once we got registered and checked in, we got to meander around and see a lot of our distant friends that we don t get to cross paths with very often. I personally ran into Mr. Dale Brock who was executive Director last year out of the Phoenix, Arizona offices. I must say it was a pleasure getting to visit with him. For me, that is one of the main reasons for attending most of these rallies and scheduled events. No, I don t spend a lot of money, but I can still have fun and make it worth my while just visiting people. Some people say, Well, just what made this rally so different from any other rally? The only answer I have for that is simply, It all depends on how involved YOU get! The sight is chosen and certain events and vendors are offered to you,,, now, whether or not you choose to participate in these events or indulge your (Continued on page 2)

2 PAGE 2 (Continued from page 1) purchasing powers with the vendors is simply up to you. We rode down a few blocks and enjoyed some delicious burgers and fries at Jucy s Burgers on Hwy.80 just east of Hwy.59. Then, about the middle of the afternoon, we all loaded up and headed for home. Other than one small incident with Rob and Linda s bike heading out of town, our return trip up Hwy.43 thru Karnack, across Big Cypress Bayou, past Smithland and then thru Atlanta was just great. And everyone made it home safely. Then, just this past Tuesday night was another one of those nights that some of us just can t seem to get tired of. Whether it is throwing a gutter ball or throwing magnificent strikes and picking up unbelievable splits, the action is nonstop and always enjoyed by everyone in attendance. If you re not getting to make our bowling nights, you re really missing out on an action packed night out with friends that is filled with laughs all night long. It adds a whole new concept to the motto, Friends for Fun, Safety and Knowledge! We are definitely some friends having fun but I m just not sure about the safety aspect, although we do attempt to keep the ball in our own lane and rolling toward the pins instead of toward other friends. And as far as the Knowledge part,,, if you can t learn game-winning bowling moves and benefit from some of the rules and tips that are passed along among us all, you should at least be able to enhance your knowledge through some of the most unbelievable gossip you ve ever heard. Hahaha!!! But seriously, we would like to see more members participate on this night out. It s intended for all of us, not a select few. Come on and just turn out all of the lights and lock the doors behind you when you leave the house and everything will probably still be there when you get back from bowling or riding with your friends. I just want to express to everyone, one more time, that whether we are discussing the newsletter or a supper ride or a scheduled organizational event, member involvement sets the scale and determines the successfulness of any endeavor. Simply stated; the more member input and involvement,,, the greater the success! Ol Brother Dave

5 PAGE 5 From our Region H Trainers Dale and Susan Wingrove BY THE BOOK By: Dale Wingrove Region H Trainer The By The Book articles are intended to help familiarize Volunteer Leaders and GWRRA Members with the guidelines, policies, procedures, and information contained in the GWRRA Officer s Guidebook. Any quotes or references to topics contained in our OGB should not be taken out of context. Please feel free to reprint these articles in Region, District and Chapter newsletters. In the February 2007 issue of Wing World Magazine Jim Hutchins introduced a new program, the Chapter of the Year Program. There are basic qualifications for chapters to qualify to be a Chapter of the year candidate. Most of these qualifications are in the OGB. The next few months we will let you know what those are. This month will be Websites on page D-8 of the OGB. I have listed below the basic Chapter Positions needed for qualification to the Chapter of the Year Program. There are many more very important positions listed on D-4 and D-5 of the OGB. Regardless of which positions you wish to adopt, the final goal is to have a well-organized and coordinated chapter where everyone shares the fun. 11 PAGE 11 CANS! Aluminum Recycling Facts: CANS! 1. A used aluminum can is recycled and back on the grocery shelf as a new can, in as little as 60 days. That's closed loop recycling at its finest! 2. Used aluminum beverage cans are the most recycled item in the U.S., but other types of aluminum, such as siding, gutters, car components, storm window frames, and lawn furniture can also be recycled. 3. Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to run a TV for three hours -- or the equivalent of a half a gallon of gasoline. 4. More aluminum goes into beverage cans than any other product. 5. Once an aluminum can is recycled, it can be part of a new can within six weeks. 6. Because so many of them are recycled, aluminum cans account for less than 1% of the total U.S. waste stream, according to EPA estimates. 7. An aluminum can that is thrown away will still be a can 500 years from now! 8. There is no limit to the amount of times an aluminum can can be recycled. 9. We use over 80,000,000,000 aluminum soda cans every year. 10. At one time, aluminum was more valuable than gold! REMEMBER!!! Anyone can participate in our Aluminum Can Collection Program. We extend this offer to our members as well as all their friends and relatives. We also invite all of our sponsors to help in this drive. There is no cost and our chapter gains operating funds. 11. A 60-watt light bulb can be run for over a day on the amount of energy saved by recycling 1 pound of steel. In one year in the United States, the recycling of steel saves enough energy to heat and light 18,000,000 homes! PLEASE KEEP OUR ALUMINUM RECYCLING PROGRAM IN MIND! CHAPTER AR-T s ALUMINUM CAN DRIVE Help turn unwanted landfill waste into useful chapter operating funds!. and RECYCLING doesn t even hurt! Then, either bring them to the meetings or contact your Newsletter Editor, David Shipp to arrange getting them to him. Everyone has drink cans around the house. Follow these guides to eliminate bugs and with virtually no effort on your part, be an active member in supporting your chapter by helping supply operations and newsletter funds! Chapter T s staff position of Chapter Safety Educator is still open to willing and committed volunteer members!
