3 HorseSense 4.6 HORSIN AROUND SEPTEMBER 2015 President s Corner Dear Members and Friends, We have had a fantastic month with Back to the Bricks, Mustang Memories, Woodward Dream Cruise, Mustang Alley, and the Blue Oval show. Many great events with wonderful conversations about cars (and many other topics) while spending time with a group of remarkable people. As our focus changes from other car shows to the Great Lakes Stampede at Nexteer on September 20, 2015, we need all the help we can muster. Jeff Amo has worked hard to improve the judging process; Gina Dillenbeck is doing a great job of putting a solid raffle together; Del Zimmerman, Rick Montagne, Joe Errante, and others are putting together a super group of sponsors; Rick Nash has provided a complete venue with plenty of extras; and Lori Amo and Jan Selesky are working hard to bring the whole We ve had a great time as a group going to shows and other club or club-related events this summer, including our Cruise to the Island (see page six). We still have a few big events coming up this fall that are fun, but lots of work, and work, but lots of fun! Either way, the MCMM members and friends have a good time. I am encouraged by the diversity in members, membercars, and the type of events we get to go to, sponsor, or present. We have a very hard-working core group of members that just make it all happen. I really encourage some of our seldom seen members to come to the show - with your Mustang - to support the show and, perhaps, lend a hand. As you help out in our show, or participate in other shows, make a written or mental note of ideas that can help us improve our events or help raise specific areas up to a higher level. All ideas need to be considered, big or small, as they can spur other thoughts and ideas that can make our events better. As newsletter editor, I also request that, if you have not had the chance to be in the Member Spotlight, that you contact me so we can tell your story. We all have one, and they are important to tell. While I receive limited no feed back on the newsletter, I do ask you to send a note on things you may like to see in it. We have members that can answer questions (send me a By Tom Welsh MCMM Newsletter Editor By Al Selesky MCMM President process together. Last week at the Blue Oval show in Grand Ledge, they had some 164 cars. Wouldn t it be wonderful if we could match (or exceed) that number!!! I firmly believe this is a watershed show for us. If we continue to lose money, we will need to rethink the viability of having the Stampede all together. In other words, we need this show to be successful if we are to continue with this effort. Please do all you can to promote the show, obtain raffle items, add sponsors, and assist the actual day of the show. I am confident it will all work out and we can continue to serve the community with our fundraising activities while providing a quality car show. I have always been impressed with the hard work, good ideas, and willingness to help by the members of this club. This is what makes us great and sets us apart from other organizations. Excited and can t wait, H-A Al question, and I ll do my best to find a member or outsider that can answer it. Why do something like this in the newsletter when you could just call someone with your question? Well, because maybe your question is relevant to other members. I t amazing how many How-To or Q&A columns I read in Hot Rod, Mustang Monthly, and many others, that, while having nothing to do with my 07 GT, give me ideas that CAN apply to my car, or be the answer to someones question. Our show is Sunday the 20th, with set up on Saturday the 19th. Hope to see you there in any capacity. The Election Committee is working on nominations for the 2016 calendar year. Current and potential new members are being contacted by the committee for the ballot included in the October newsletter. Hope you will say yes if you are called, or, if you are interested in an elected or appointed position, contact Al Selesky, Mark Bilbee, or Del Zimmerman and let them know. If you have questions about a position and what is requires, check the Constitution and By-Laws as most are outlined there. Our next meeting will be at Fritz s Restaurant on Monday, Sept. 21st, in Richville (M15 at M46 at 7 PM), and will be the perfect meeting to review and recap the show. We hope to see you there! 4 HORSIN AROUND MCMM Fun Trip Charity Island Lighthouse & Dinner Cruise Fifteen MCMM Members and Family cruised to Charity Island for a gourmet dinner, a lighthouse tour, and a great time of fellowship. The cruise ended with a sun setting on our return trip. We met in Bay City and drove together to the Caseville Municipal Harbor, on Saturday, Sept. 5th, many in our Mustangs, to begin the trip at 2:00 PM. The Trip to the Island The Cruise began with a leisurely one hour boat ride across Saginaw Bay to Charity Island enjoying appetizers and beverages on the way. Arriving at Charity Island Marina, we walked or rode through the forest to the Island Lighthouse. There, we heard great stories of history about the island and lighthouse, followed by the delicious, Island Dinner. We enjoyed Crusty Artisan French Bread baked In Island wood burning stove, and either Great Lakes Yellow Perch or Tenderloin Steak Tips, and a Fresh Michigan Vegetable Medley with Michigan Baby Red Potatoes Poached in Fresh Dill Broth After dinner, we toured the lighthouse, home of the owners, visited the gift shop. On the return trip, we savored the sunset half way back to the mainland while strawberry topped cheesecake was served with fresh brewed coffee. It was almost to much fun! Cruisers to the Island, L to R. 5 HORSIN AROUND SEPTEMBER 2015 Back to the Bricks - Flint August 15th The MCMM was well represented at Back to the Bricks, held again in downtown Flint on August 15th. There were about 15 club members there for the show, with a great time being had by all. We were once again assigned to East 4th Street, which is a good position, right in the heart of the show, and near food and rest rooms. We had our banner flying and lots of interest in our club and our cars by show spectators. H-A MOCSEM Mustang Memories - Dearborn August 16th As with the B2B show, a sizable contingent of MCMM members made the trek to Dearborn for MOCSEM s Mustang Memories Car Show. The day was a hot one, but how can you complain when it s warm and dry? A great show with their super Goodie Bag and a participation award plaque for each entry. John Clor, MOCSEM member, presented our own Chris Jensen with their annual Memorial award for his outstanding 65 Hardtop. H-A CAM Blue Oval Blast Car Show - August 30th The Capital Area Mustang s Blue Oval Blast Car Show took place on Sunday with 12 MCMM present. Awards went to Al & Jan Selesky, Ruth & Stan Bentley, Joe & Pam Errante, Bob & Gina Dillenbeck, Rick & Nancy Montagne, Jeff & Lori Amo, and Dick Lebsack, each in their model year category. 6 HORSIN INVESTOR AROUND NEWSLETTER ISSUE N 3 SEPTEMBER FALL 2009 MCMM Member News 2015 Bill & Ada Hoard Presented with Surprise Lifetime Membership Certificate by Quentin Levitte On August 27th a few members of the club got together to give Bill and Ada Hoard their life time membership certificate. I'm sure Bill and Ada wondered why their son Bill had pulled the old first generation convertible out of the garage and then spent a good portion of the day cleaning and polishing the beautiful red pony. When club members arrived Bill and Ada came out and sat and the porch and seemed to really enjoy the company. As more members arrived conversation turned to previous club outings and the fun Bill and Ada have had over the years as members of MCMM. When it became time to present the certificate you could see the glow in Bill and Ada's eyes. We then celebrated with a dish of ice cream capped with a variety of toppings. It was a great way to end a special evening. I'd like to thank Chris for the idea of awarding the Hoard's with the life time membership and Ruth for taking the time to design the certificate. I'd also like to thank their son, Bill, and daughter in law, Connie, for helping with everything.
